But why bother wasting 2-3 days in terms of flights and stuff for what could be done as a hook-up instead. And because that's just boring-ish at times, what they did was at least inventive and funny.

For someone that didn't go, seems an awfully sweeping statement to make.
Then again, it isn't overtly surprising to see.

I'll concur the opening ceremony was clumsily-paced and at times anticlimactic (I think a lot of people were expecting more), the convention as a whole was a lot of fun. I go to other big conventions and while I enjoy them, Celebration is still unique. I had a great time.

Ok, so I'm the one who created the video.
Stephen Sansweet said that your contribution was one of the most amazing things he had ever received. He said something to the effect (this was in the panel participants after-panel get-together this morning) that it was one of the most moving things he'd ever seen, and he was very, very pleased that it had crossed his desk -- "I get a lot of stuff, and this really caught my eye." So, you have a fan .
I second that, your video was awesome!!! Also had a great time with you guys at Disney!

Yeah, the Opening Ceremonies were tedious and dull, and nothing at all like CIII's. I did, at some point, expect Steve to try to sell us a SW Time-Share or something. If you missed them, don't kick yourself, but don't beat yourself up about going to them, either.
Ah, well... win some, lose some. I'm just glad I didn't stand in line for 7 hours for them like I did for CIII's!

HoosierTrooper posted: I was actually in the opening ceremonies, so I can say that things did not go as planned. The suspicious package threw everything off and the band was 30 minutes late. The backstage area was pretty confused, and the ceremonies were almost evacuated. Considering the circumstances, I think things went pretty well. Other than a few over dramatic "the sky is falling" types who frequent these boards, everyone I have talked to has been pleased with the ceremonies (under the circumstances) and the con in general. I think some people just want to have something to complain about.
let me ask you, when gen con peeps are grabbing people, yelling in their face, being told we would be arrested, blaming the fire dept. then the police dept.,being told one thing as far as why we had to leave ( I was three people from the door with at least a few thousand seats left open), being forced outside where the "activity was happening" for over an hour in the cold for a bogus reason, etc. etc. etc....this makes us the sky is falling type? wow, not cool.
let me ask you: if gen con grabbed your stroller with your child in it and decided on their own against the will of the parent to do so and almost losing his balance and dropping the small child while going down the escalator...would that person be a sky is falling type?
so if someone had a legitimate grip as it was their experience, that makes them a sky is falling type? that's kinda arrogant if you ask me. being that I and many were outside while you were inside because of poor planning makes it okay to judge ones opinion? the only redeeming fact of that night as well as the rest of C-IV to where issues arose is the fact that the opening ceremonies sucked. this was confirmed by just about anyone who was there.
Hmmm...you say you were in it huh?

Yeah, George just doesn't care about us. The excuse of George not being here because of his work with the new "Indy" film feels bogus. Word is all the on-site shooting for the new "Indy" film is in New Mexico - not London. Then in July the film's stage shots will be done here, in Los Angeles. So why was George in London? And didn't his video message look like the guy was hanging at his California home - or, perhaps, in a room backstage at the LA Convention Center? George doesn't give a (expletive deleted).
Do you actually know ANYTHING about pre-production of a motion picture of the scope and size as Indy 4? The man is busy doing his job, its his choice whether he shows up at a convention or not.
As far as Hamill, voice actors get paid a nice little chunk of change. And he was out of town for business. He was going to try and make it back for at least one day of the convention but he just couldnt get it scheduled. I know this for a fact!
As far as the video is concerned, I loved it. Typho is it up on youtube or is there another way to get a nice clean copy of it. It was a great tribute. At first I was uneasy with the death scenes but it is not like some of the actors had much more screen time. And they were great examples of their craft. I am sure you wrestled with the idea and came to the right conclusion for you tribute. Great work!

the opening ceremonies were pitiful.
dang close to embarrassing.
Think of the OC at CIII - A ROCKIN' band instead of a lone pianist doing no justice to John Williams.
A full brigade of stormtroopers instead of a handful.
Excitement instead of a snoozefest.
the USC Band members were not exactly exceptional. plus - I know George is an alumni but I'd rather have had a genuine rocking band that also plays jazz and doesn't need sheet music. Why USC anyway? no relationship to Star Wars.
very very subdued time - and cake? we couldn't get any unless we sang happy birthday to Star Wars. Lame-0
and I'm a fan. but not of poor organization and zilch entertainment.
Best part was the footage of Star Wars players who've left for the other galaxy, but that was very bittersweet.

Lets not make this personal... I didn't see you in the earlier parts of this thread because you haven't posted.
Your post is rather incoherent so I am having a hard time following it, but if any of these things did in fact happen to you I am very sorry. If someone acted out of line in the presence of police, I would hope that they would have been reprimanded.
I'm also sorry that you don't consider (what was thought to be by the police and fire department) a bomb worth yelling over. However, when 15k+ people are in a building where a suspicious package is found, it will throw things off and interfere with organization.
The situation was made worse by the fact that the MAYOR of L.A. was in the building. When high-ranking government figures are speaking at a venue were officials believe there to be a threat, things will be all the more confusing. As I said before, considering the circumstances, I believe that the event went rather well. Was it great? No. But things could have been much worse. Again, everyone I encountered had been very positive about the whole affair. We are fortunate that it was only a scare.
And yes, I was in opening ceremonies. I was on stage and spent most of my afternoon rehearsing so that the ceremonies would be memorable and live up to expectations. In the end, most of that work was for not. I missed many hours of the convention to practice, but the bomb scare ruined that. Still, I try to stay positive and appreciate that fact that no one was really hurt.

Again, everyone I encountered had been very positive about the whole affair. We are fortunate that it was only a scare.
the point is that it wasn't a threat as if it was, the mayor and all the "important people" would've had to leave as well. the fact that we were told everyone would be exiting the building (this means you as well) was told to quite everyone down who was asking what was going on when there were all the empty seats still open.
if you can't understand what I was writing about as there seems to be confusion on your part, them you should read the tread on the opening ceremonies where more than a few people had things to say. I highly doubt that any of the people you encountered who were just jolly happy about what was going on and how it was handled were waiting 2 hours and were involved in the pooch screw of planning and aftermath of what happened that night. so a little honesty would be nice.
here's a question for you that you will not have an answer to: why do you insist on making excuses for what happened that night when they didn't even happen to you? you weren't there where everything was happening so you have no right to say what's what.
part of the point of these threads is to vent if needed and get it out. being that we live in a free counrty still, you have the right to voice ones thoughts, opinions, and better yet true experiences. to somehow suggest that it wasn't a big deal or to excuse the behavior of gen con when you weren't even there seems insulting to say the least.
your apology for what happened on the part of gen con or the cops is irrelevant and doesn't change what happened. not sure where that gets lost in translation. who was there that night, all the planning you did, etc. is again irrelevant as what does that have to do with the staff and how they handled everything? i'll tell you...it doesn't. this isn't about you and all the things you did to plan for the night or how you performed that night, as it never was. I was not attacking you personally in my last post as well. I was merely making the point that before you make the comments you did when you weren't even there, well to put it buntly...you don't get to.
i'm sure you had a wonderful time doing your thing inside but alot of people got screwed outside. you're right let's not make this personal as it never was. I just think it's funny that you don't hear all the people who had issues with the event come down on the people who insist it was the greatest thing ever. you don't hear us saying "come on now, you know you had a bad time just admit it." BUT YOU DO HEAR IT the other way and that's wrong and insulting. to tell poeple that what they experienced is just a bunch of complaining is just wrong and it comes from one side only. again not cool.
