Sadly, I couldn't make it to CIV, but I attended CII and CIII and the lines were insane. They were overlapping at places and others went out the door. I've read that the lines for the events were okay, but I haven't seen anything about the lines for other stuff. How were the autograph lines? And the lines for the Art Show? Those were things I really enjoyed at past celebrations and am curious how I would have fared had I gone.

Thanks.

There were lines, but they were well-managed and policed lines even if it annoyed some people. I got into everything I stood in a line for, no matter how long it was. The longest lines I stood in were to get in at the start of the day, and they got everyone inside in 30 minutes, and to see the One Man Star Wars show. Lines in the art area weren't bad. I didn't do autographs. The store had no lines that I ever saw. I lined up earlier than I needed to for a few things just to be able to chat with other fans who were interested in the same panels/topics.

Part of it is that the LA CC is a bigger venue than Indianapolis. Bigger rooms and such, plus not the same number of attendees.

Lines were fine. Better than what I'm used to as a LA native. Longest lines were to get in and maybe for the panelist talks. But I never had to wait more than 30 minutes for anything.

I found that almost every panel and event had extra seats. Once we realized that, we just walked up to an event right when the doors opened. Although we were in the back, it was fine because of the HUGE screens with multiple (and well produced) camera's on the action. They played tons of videos and showed some never before seen pictures at many of the things to go with what the actors were talking about. The rest of the time, they were focused on the actor or host.

Other lines were not bad at all. I had a great line-free experience at the store and this afternoon walked right up to the Hasbro counter and purchased my two exclusive Luke figures.

RebelGrrl is right, between the size of the center and fewer attendees, lines were manageable if not non-existant. I had my doubts when I purchased by tickets, but this con was better than CII and CIII combined for me. happy

How many fewer attendees were there, does anybody know?

I heard there was about 1/2 as many, 25,000. Don't quote me on that. I just know that I was 2000 in line for the West entrance on Friday and I was through the doors by 10:20-ish.

That's one thing they need to fix: open the doors before 10 when there's stuff scheduled to start at 10. grin Luckily, the panel I wanted was at 10:30. You were supposed to be able to get in for the store at any time, but I didn't see where. I should have gone in that way. wink

C3 had a lot of 'this line is temporarily capped' - I didn't see absolutely any of those - all the rooms for panels/shows were big enough that pretty much everyone could attend - you only got in line if you wanted a close-up seat.

Lines were WAY better than c3, though whether that's because of better organization, more room, or less people, I don't know. My guess would be a combination of the 3.

I didn't see any capped lines at C 3, either, but then I got into most of them early.

Official Pix was the bomb, very well organised in a huge amount of space. The longest I waited was for Carrie Fisher, that was about 40 mins. But i got most done on fan day when they had very small lines.

There were lots of capped lines at CIV. The "Fan Club Seated First" One-Man Star Wars trilogy had it's fan club line capped and fan club members were told to get at the end of the non fan club line. The Hasbro store line was capped quite often, as well as the Gentle Giant, Sideshow and StarWarsShop lines.

The Celebration store was run magnificently. Glad to see that GenCon finally learned some lessons here. There were 5-6 people handling the action figures on Thursday when I went through line, which meant that the action figure line only took about 10 minutes to get through. Also, there were a TON of cash registers when it came time to checkout. The longest I spent in a checkout line was on Monday when there were only 15 or so registers open and there were a ton of people in the store because of the 1/2 off sale.

The autograph lines were smooth for a few reasons:

1) OfficialPix had a ton of volunteers ready to manage lines. There were a lot of "floaters" available if any lines did get out of hand and I know that a lot of volunteers pulled extra shifts to help out.

2) Not as many people were getting autographs. I was lucky enough to get 2 escort shifts, one with Felix Silla (Ewok in ROTJ who also happened to play Twiggy on Buck Rodgers) and Orli Shoshan (Shaak Ti). Both of them commented on how few people were in the autograph area and how little traffic they were seeing. Orli was clearly used to much longer lines than she was seeing.

Honestly, the lines I waited the longest for were Anthony Daniel's autograph (1 & 1/2 hours), Robot Chicken (1 hour), and I stupidly waited one hour for the "Hour with Jay Laga'aia", and there was maybe 100 people there.

The store's line were incredible. Too bad the store sucked.

What I felt sucked the most about the store is men's sized only t-shirts. Yes, there was a Leia tank top. I'm wearing it now. However, t-shirts cut to the female form fit far better than t-shirts cut to the male form on a woman's figures. The t-shirts are generally too long, and since they are the same width chest-to-hip, do not accommodate actual hips well and the excess fabric bunchs up. Most women are pear-shaped. This is rather opposite to most men. wink

It wasn't like there weren't plenty of ladies to sell such shirts to. I really liked that they had the Leia baby-doll t-shirt at CIII. The problem with the tank top from C4 is that the iron-on does not stretch to the same extent as the ribbed knit, so if you are between sizes, it really doesn't work out that well. You get the bigger size, and the shirt's falling off. You get the smaller size, and the iron-on doesn't lay flat over the chest.

But that would about my only complaint about the store. Since I know how to sew, I can fix up t-shirts to fit and flatter better, but my point is that if I am paying $20 for a t-shirt, I shouldn't have to. I can get t-shirts that fit and flatter at Wal-Mart for $10 or less.

The line for the later Family Guy presentation on Saturday was the longest line I had ever seen. It took like 5 minutes to walk to the end of it.

I also didn't particularly dig the fact that they cleared people out of theaters/halls after one event and before another.

Although if they didn't shoo me out of the Celebration Theater after the Fanboys bit on Friday, I never would have met Jay Baruchel and Kristen Bell outside, so...win-win.

I only had to stand in a line 3 different times. The 1st two times were on 5/24 (fan club day), I stood outside for about 4 hours before the con opened and then I stood in a line for about an hour at the Hasbro booth to get the Luke figure. The 3rd line I stood in was for the Trilogy in 30 Minutes on Saturday. The rest of the time very little lines ... over all a good experience.
