I didn't think so much of the autographs as money wasted, but for an experience. I felt it was worth it and I didn't mind. Yeah some of them were quite expensive, but it's not every day you run into Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels or others and get to be face to face. Yeah it's only for a half minute or so, but I was happy as all heck just to be able to shake hands and talk to Fisher, even if briefly.
I've never been to one of the Celebrations before so it was truly wonderful to get to meet so many people.
Sure the autographs were not for everyone. But for me I don't call waiting in lines to get Gentle Giant exclusives for hours or grabbing other toys at a con to be fun as opposed to taking it all in and just enjoying yourself. I didn't walk away with one exclusive except a few CIV store shirts and a jacket when they had their 50% off sale. I didn't even bother with the Ralph McQuarry figure 2-pack. Sorry, not for $20.
I was told by many sources those figures were to be destroyed after yesterday for any remaining. I highly doubt that's gonna happen when they could sell the rest through the star wars shop store online. We'll see. At one point they offered no limit on the toys because Monday they still had 20,000 left. PLUS anyone who bought a Monday pass got 1 free toy. That kinda ticked me off because here we buy these 4 day passes and we have to pay for all our figures. And their "50% off ALL CIV store items" discluded the 2-figure McQuarry pack. I was gonna buy one at $10, but when they rang it up and explained that wasn't discounted I dropped it and told them forget it.
My fun was had at the panels and getting to see friends and just sit back and have fun.

Wow, I've attended probably 20 conventions in the last seven years and this was far and away the best convention I've ever been to. I didn't have a single bad moment or experience the entire time. I met friendly staff, friendly people, awesome celebrities, attended great panels, took silly pictures...it was all great.
As for the costume contest, a lot of people (including me) registered weeks ago online. It's more of a first come first serve thing...no matter how great your costume is, they aren't going to kick people out to let you in.
Anyway, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience ;_; It must have been awful to be so excited and spend so much money and then not really enjoy yourself.

James, sticky thread at the top of the forum.
And I'm disappointed that I didn't get the chance to get a shot of the KR team yesterday. Had someone to go meet and ended up chatting with them for 2 hours.

I agree and now with the news that the remaining figures are being sold by Toyrocket online this just irks me. How can you call something an exclusive for 5 days then the next day sell the same exact item in a different way worldwide (and for a penny cheaper)?
I traveled 3000 miles for C4 and had a great time, in fact I would do it all over next week if we had the opportunity, but due to the distance we had to fly back Sunday night so I was not able to attend Monday so we were not able to take part in the 50% off deal. This may sound like sour grapes but why should people that purchased a Monday pass be rewarded while those of us who devoted 4 days paid full price for everything.
Again, had a wonderful time in California just not liking the way things are being handled after the event. Bring on C5.....1,090 Days to go

Were the remaining items not supposed to be sent to London for CIV Europe?

Which is exactly why I didn't go to CII or CIII after they did the exact same thing at C1...touted "exclusive, here only!" items that were for sale at 12:01 a.m. on Monday on the SW site. Forget that! I only went to CIV because it's in town. I knew they would keep doing this, so didn't worry about it.
What gets me, is they sold out of official program books -- what the heck is up with that?! It should be like Comic-Con, where everyone gets a book with their badge, whether one-day or four-day. I don't care if they add $5 to the cost of admission. I don't collect much and to have a program book would have been important to me, but I'm not paying $12.99 for one on eBay now...

Yeah I also thought it was dumb that they only ordered 600 patches (the one thing I collect). Thankfully one of my friends found out that they had held some back for Friday and was able to get the store manager to save some for us.
But otherwise the convention was far from horrible. The people who were working for GenCon were volunteers just like me ( I worked for OPX). They probably got as little training as I did and were doing the best they could. Granted, I was really frustrated on Thursday because each time I talked to a GenCon volunteer on Thursday they were either rude or had their head up their own Sarlac Pit. But things seemed to be better the rest of the weekend, with the exception of not seating people early enough which screwed up the scheduling for the rest of each day. But hey it was GenCon. I expected little and was not disappointed. Once I got over that I had a good time.

I had a wonderful time at C4. The maps were really helpful in getting around.
Best part was meeting fellow JCers.
