As a fellow C IV attendee (and as one who tries not to stifle someone from expressing their own opinion) I'll say this: you're free to have that opinion of the show. Personally, I enjoyed every minute of it and your experience may have been helped by getting a free guide to the show which contained maps and timetables of show events. There were a bunch of things going on, if you're saying that you couldn't find something, chances are that you weren't looking in the right spot for it.
Regarding the autographs, damn near everyone who signs stuff at cons nowadays often request payment for their autograph. Even back in the golden days of cons, the guests requested to be paid per autograph. You probably didn't notice this because the actor often got a cut of the admission fee paid by con attendees. Eventually, people realized that not every attendee went after a guest's autograph, and so to make the show more appealing to the masses, the door price was lowered and anyone wanting an autograph would pay for it on the spot making it easier for everyone. Also, as has been stated earlier, this is something of a side job for the actors. Not all of them are doing films or plays anymore and often need the supplemental income to help them get by. Nobody is forcing you to like it, but that's the way it is and isn't likely to change in the near future.

If one rates conventions by the quality of of the food served, I would indeed say CIV was the worst (and not to mention only) convention I ever attended. I seriously lost my appertite eating a hamburger on the first day, and I slightly gagged and felt like throwing up whenever I wandered anywhere with a strong odor (even places not at the LACC) or when I was even eating elsewhere.
However the loss of the feeling of hunger as well managed to balance things out, and otherwise I had a good time at CIV (except for that Slave Leia shoot and other unrelated technical difficulties that were corrected thanks to LACC facilities).

Personally, I never ate during the whole convention there. Solves the twin issues of cost and food quality.

How about leaving the kids at home on the next Celebration and make sure you're the one having a blast?

Actually, he isn't. He's the hardest working man there, and truly understands the value of fan interaction and why he's there -- ask any of the people who stood in his line for autographs and watched as he "worked the crowd." I worked for him for two days. Wouldn't characterize him that way at all.

Tony was very intense, and like things a very specific way. I worked for him for half a shift then after the break (as the line was quiet) I went ahead and changed positions - I prefer working with the 'secondary' actors as they are a bit more relaxed.
However, all the OP volunteers got a free autograph from him on Monday, and he was very considerate of his volunteers, insisting we all had a chair and a bottle of water.

I was surprised when I found out Anthony was giving free autographs to OPIX volunteers. Of course, I didn't find out until I was working his line on Monday afternoon. Luckily, one of the OPIX volunteers with some pull asked him to sign 2 more after he was done so that she and I could each get one.

Try him in other situations with not so many people watching. He can be quite different...I am familiar with more than one not-to-pleasant moments involving him but I won't divulge them here. Better for people who have good moments with him to remember only those moments

CIV ran reasonably well. I heard two volunteers comparing it to ComiCon and I wonder if that made part of the difference between CIII and CIV, if a lot of the local volunteers were experienced with large crowds. Line management at CIV was MUCH improved from CIII. The store was surreal in it's vast emptiness.
There are things that could be improved upon.....specifically having someone keeping track of the SW in Pop Culture program. It cut out for no apparent reason twice while I was watching one time. Perhaps the machine was getting too hot from runming all day?
And I only caught fleeting glances of the stormtrooper photo shoot on Saturday night on my way to Carrie Fisher, but I heard that the post-photo gatherings with other groups was badly (or not at all) managed.
Celebration isn't a convention to me at all. The programming schedule is just too light. It's a Star Wars trade show. I just treat it like that and have a good time.

I would have to second this.. I was working on a crew right beside you on saturday when you were working for Anthony Daniels. At noon I watched him set up a table to serve you guys, his volunteer staff lunch which was an extremely nice gesture that only a genuinely nice person would do in my opinion. I would add a special thank you for sharing part of yall's lunch with us .
I also bumped into him on at least three separate occasions and he was always gracious and friendly. He also seemed to really enjoy "working the crowd" and several times just stopped to visit with masses of people.
