RE: HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first celebration I have ever been to. I have seen many movies and photos on the last ones and I have also heard many stories. Comparing what I know of the last ones and what I have seen of this one, C4 was much better organized. With that said they could have improved it way more with little extra planning.
I notice that there are several different type of star wars fans. There are those that love collecting star wars gear and collectables. Personally I care less about that. Over half the stuff people were desperately buying could have been bought online. Why kill yourself and spend extra shipping money just to buy it there? These type of people have different expectations than other star wars fans. Even though I am not one of them I do believe to have a good convention there issues/desires need to be address. I think this celebration did a good job here.
The second type of fan I saw were ones that loved the Stars. These people would stand in line all day just to get an autograph and hear one speak live. Usually to hear nothing new. Being that this was the 30th anniversary of Star Wars I was very disappointed in not seeing any of the big stars there. Including Lucas. I think GenCon failed here.
The 3rd type of fans are those that love….. I am not sure how you describe them. They are the ones the love Costumes getting and taking pictures of everyone. They also love the competitions that go on through out the convention. This is why I came to C4. Its something you can’t do anywhere else. I loved it so much I am making plans to go to C5 wherever it may be. I am only disappointed in the lack of items in the achieve room. I thought for sure they would have more original costumes on display and out props. There was more stuff at the Columbus Science Center than at C4.
Small things to make C5 better than C4.
1. Better planning. Until a like a week before the con I had no idea what was going to be there. It made it very difficult to plan what to do when. There were also many small things I missed out on because no one knew when they were. Like all the special pictures. After looking at all the pictures I sometime wonder if I was at the same con. Finding any information on the con was difficult. Everything was scatter on different boards and web pages. All information on c4 related activities should have been posted in one spot.
2. Better food. I am not sure if this can be fixed but like many others have said it was bad.
3. Help stations throughout the convention. The center was huge!!!! I didn’t want to walk all the way to one side just for customer service to send me back across to the other. I don’t care what people said finding things wasn’t easy. Even with the map. Maybe have specially marked people that could help with directions. By the 4th day I knew were everything was but that doesn’t help the one dayers.
4. Better shuttle service. Those that took shuttles 1, 2 and 3 may not have experienced this but 4 was never there. Unlike they other routes we only had one bus. I think the shuttle should have been on a set schedule. Make it every 30 min and if the bus is early then it will sit there until its time to leave again. This will avoid people wasting there time waiting for a bus. Lucky for us it didn’t rain all week. Had it done so many people would be miserable.

You forgot the 4th type of fan: The all around 1st, 2nd, & 3rd type of fan. On fan club day I was operating more like a fan who loved buying the exclusives. There were some items, like the Fett maquette that you couldn't buy at a regular price if you waited until after the con to buy it. On some days I was the fan who loved the Stars...I volunteered at the autograph hall & at the art show. And on all of the days I was the fan who loved taking pics of costumed fans. I also enjoyed contributing to the Endor Forest diorama, participating in the Droid Hunt, and meeting people from the boards. (Although I did not get to meet people from TF.N, but met a few Rebelscummers.) In the next few years I am planning on costuming along with my hubby & my son.
I do have to agree with you on the 1st type of fan. Some people's motivations for being there was to get the exclusives to scalp them afterwards.
I'm beginning to think that Gencon is purposely releasing the schedule at the last minute. One reason I can think of is to keep you from planning other activities outside of the con. This way they make sure that you spend the money in the convention.

I can't imagine having time to do anything outside of the convention even if I did have the schedule ahead of time to plan. I had five days and I still ran out of time and did not see everything I wanted to see. I think a lot of it has to do with what type of "looker" you are.. I myself am a detail looker.. I want to look at every single little thing at every single little booth down to every single little detail and believe me when you do that... five days is not long enough.. I missed a lot of things.. thank goodness I have friends that took cameras.

Nobody knew jack **** about what was goin on or where anything was, it was very dissapointing, dont get me wrong, I wouldnt trade the experience for anything, but will NEVER do it again, christ, comic con is 10 times better then that peice of **** was!!!!!!!! On top of that, I tried to enter the costume pagent on the 25th but they said too many people had entered and they closed it off, B.S. Tell me why they will allow a guy wearing blue jeans and a **** bathrob to be in as a jedi but not a $1500 mandalorian costume that probably woulda won best of show!!!
Overall, it was NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!! But my kids loved it and I really cant complain, too much, but I will say that the entire celebration 4 seemed as though it was slapped together that week. It was ****!!!
P.S. if anybody knows where I can find photos from C-4 I would love a link , my camera ran outta film half way through
I humbly dissagree

I worked for him for two days. Wouldn't characterize him that way at all.
Try him in other situations with not so many people watching. He can be quite different...I am familiar with more than one not-to-pleasant moments involving him but I won't divulge them here. Better for people who have good moments with him to remember only those moments
Anthony Daniels is without a doubt one of the most UNPLEASANT individuals I have ever had the displeasure of working with. We had him as the Master of Ceremonies at the convention that I helped organize here in Omaha, NE back in 2001 and it was his behavior that left pretty much all of us with a bittersweet memory of the experience. His demands and attitude are outrageous to the point of borderline obsessive compulsive disorder. Between him and Peter Mayhew (who brought my wife to TEARS with his behavior backstage in the green room) I started to feel like inviting so many celebs to our event had been a mistake. Luckily for me and for all of our volunteers, we had SUPER people like Garrick Hagon, Bill Hootkins (RIP, my friend... the trip from the airport with him was one of THE best moments of the weekend), Michael Sheard (RIP... this man LOVED his Bud Light!), Mike Edmonds & the ALWAYS insanely generous Warwick Davis to show us the other side of Star Wars celebrities.
But yes, Daniels' backstage behavior has burned more than one bridge in the world of conventions. Just wish we would have listened to the rumors before being saddled with him for three days, ruining some of my love of the character he portrayed on screen. For the fans praising him in panels or shelling out cash for his sig at the table, I am sure he is a gentleman and a treat. (Heck, it was his great performance at C1 that convinced me to push for him to be our MC at AlphaCon.) But work with him sometime. Actually... on second thought... PLEASE DON'T!

There's never enough time to see Everything. My hubby's been to all 4 Celebrations and to this day has not done or seen everything at the con. Example: this year was the first time he's heard of the Art Show and I convinced him to go.
We never got to visit the R2 Builders room or the Vader helmets display among other things. We'll try to do that at the next Celebration (if they are still around).
Most of the sightseeing we did in L.A. were after con hours. But some of the time we had to give up our con time so we can go visit our relatives & go to the Walk of Fame, etc. It was just a mutual decision we made because:
a) We probably won't be back in Cali for another 10 years (unless the next one is back in LA).
b) Time constraints (I have a job to go back to )
c) There probably will be another Celebration so we'll just try to catch some of the things we missed at the next one. Of course there will be new exhibits & activities added so we'll probably never get to do them all!

CIV: You know what?
Less programming than CIII? Yep.
Fewer guests and panels that intrigued me? Yep.
More expensive? Slightly.
More friends from around the globe via FanForce and the JC than I could possibly imagine? Hell Yep.
More fun than CIII? DEFINITELY!
This Celebration finally felt like a real Con to me. The convention was only a tenth of the fun. I had a blast, and would be back tomorrow if I had the time and dough to do it. Any real Con is only as good as you make it, and if you come in determined to look for every fault, then that's all you're going to find.

I walked around the entire convention in one hour, it usually takes me 6 hours + to see everything in a day at comic con, here, saw it all in an hour, sorry for being a **** head guys, I was just dissapointed by there schedualing and lack of info on how things went.
Can't say that.
I totally understand and you're not being whiny as it was the truth. check this out as this is what I posted on our board:
if you took out lego, gentle giant, hasbro, autograph & artist alley, you'd have frank-n-sons. the lucas exibit / helmet & R2 builders was really the only thing to see. i'm surprised the exibit wasn't way bigger. of all the things to see, I think there could've been alot more items of interest there. dixie cups? the science center has way more stuff. I know there were panels and the one man show but as far as stuff to see, unless you were paying for autographs, not really much there.
between the pooch screw of the opening ceremonies (which I heard sucked many times over), 501st picture not happening to where you could view it, jabba-leia picture not happening, the overall not knowing what to do as most of the people working there were temps (for example...it took sheila and I over one hour to exchange a poster I bought do to it being ripped), the rude, pushy, uninformed / trained, arrogant attitude of many gen con employees, and the cake topper which was the celebration store on monday (which we had FIVE DIFFERENT REASONS why monday ticket holders got a FREE figure)...i'd have to give it a C+ and that's being generous due to the fact that I got to meet some really awesome artists and buy some of their work as well as meet many actors from the movies. to have my stuff finally autographed for display is totally cool as i'll remember that always. especially the time I spent with jeromy bulloch. got to see him three separate time throughout the show and got to talking with him.
please don't think i'm being negative in anyway as this was just our experience. i'm sure there were many people who had a wonderful time and thought the staff was the best thing since sliced bread. that being said and I could give many more things that happened...here's a few ----> there were some women that were crying due to gen gon's actions toward them, some people were told they would be arrested, gen con employees grabbing people (me included), even to go as far as grab a womans stroller with baby and take it down the escalator against her wishes. am I bitter? nope. pissed? yep! there actions were totally unexcusable an uncalled for. when the head of security that's contracted for gen con says they've mucked it up many times as far as how they've been dealing with things, what does that tell you?
I don't want to go into a complete rant as we did have a good time in general. so i'll leave it here. again this was our experience and it was what it was. I will say this though...most of the volunteers there were totally cool as they "get it". they're part of us. the collectors, the fans. they wanted to be there to where gen con had to be there. huge difference. for all those who did volunteer...thanks.
again, as much of a stinging review I gave WE DID HAVE FUN. I guess I should grade the event accordingly:
A+ for time there and seeing all we saw
F for management
as far as the figure goes, we paid for four days and membership to get extra day in. the fact there wasn't alot of merchandise left nor actors...there choice. we spent $300 on tickets / membership and alot more for food / hotel / goodies. this was our choice. but you DO NOT reward someone for as gen con said because they didn't get a grab bag, then gift bag, then because they spent $65 for a one day icket...which was only $45, to lucas called in to say to do it and if we have a problem with that to call him and a few other reasons. what about all the other peeps who only bought a one day ticket? how about the fact with all the stuff we missed out on? how about the fact that monday ticket holders only missed three hours of the event hall. there were still plenty of panels / events to see. again their choice. besides they got discounted merchandise that day.
anyways, just one persons opinion.

Well i was there for the entire time, I can tell you from experience. That you get what you want out of a convention from what you put into it. If you want to have a good time you will, if you want to have a bad time you will.
I have been to many conventions and Celebrations in the past. The only thing that sucked about this whole convention was The hotel i was at. A mile away AC did not work to great but hey I made it work cause i had friends, and i was there for star wars. so it was an experience i would never trade. Next time i will not try to be as cheap on my hotel and stay a bit closer to the convention it self.
Also the prices of food in Los Angeles was a bit high for my tatse. But hey if that means i have to go with out a couple collectables so i can afford to eat and have fun then so be it.
The main thing was to be there and to see old friend and to make new ones. all in all it was well worth it and i can not wait for CV.

so the things I listed above were of my own doing? I don't get it. I caused the bad things to happen or even worst wanted them to happen? with everything that went on or didn't go on was actually the result of me not wanting to have enough of a good time? that's the same as saying you didn't pray hard enough to GOD so that's why it happened.
if I go out to eat a steak dinner and it's under cooked , the potato is cold and the veggies aren't fresh, should I just take it or should I bring it up to the server? how about when they bring it to me again but they just microwaved it and it's overcooked and plastic tasting? should I not say anything then? how about when I ask to see a manager and they tell me well too bad that's what you get. am I complaining?
I can't understand this level of shooting the messanger with some here, as if because one points out something, then THEY'RE the reason it happened. the level of apologizing for a poor level of customer service and planning there is astounding.

lucas called in to say to do it and if we have a problem with that to call him
And you did nto laugh in this guys face? OMG I could totally see one of the Gen Con guys saying that but I would not let him get far with out calling Bull! And they did not run out of entrance bags they were handing them out with out punching your badge at the end of the day monday by the handful.
The figure was being given away with a 4 day pass because, for once in the history of Hasbro, they actually over estimated the market. The first two days they actually sold out of the figure. I like many others bought the figure at teh beginning of the convention so I didnt have to worry about picking one up later. They assumned that the sales would remain constant the entire weekend... wrong. If they limited the figure to 2 the first day instead of 6 maybe it would have been more steady. Regardless they were sitting on alot of stock come monday morning and had to start moving it.
They were suppose to destroy all figures not sold at the convention, but we all know that would never really happen, just like they destroy all the prints from the art show that do not sell. I had heard froma a reliable source that they were thinking about half pricing them after 2pm if you purchased a whole case. Instead the guy from toy palace, or who ever is now selling them, approached them and said he would buy all the remaining inventory after the show, so they never went 50%, whether or not he got them at that price I can not tell you.

Boy that sounds like me all right. While I did see one show on Friday with Carrie Fisher and a "Star Wars in 30 Minutes" showing, the vast majority of my time was spent taking pics of costumes and other things around the place. Assuming your main objective is just taking pics, you're bound to have a good time (assuming the Slave Leia photoshoot didn't mean the world to you, heh heh).

Um, they do not do that. Most of the artists that don't sell out will just sell the last of the remaining stock online afterwards, especially those that have the higher priced prints. For instance I can't see Dave Seeley destroying any of the $500 canvas copies of "Rogue Leader" that didn't sell.
