I agree with you, PrincessLeia911, about LAX! It was the most stressful part of of an otherwise fantastic Celebration experience, especially on the departure home!
A TSA inspector took one look at my genuine Graflex lightsaber hilt (not a Master Replica, but a vintage flash cell – which I had dissembled so one could clearly see it was simply an empty tube and not a pipe bomb ) and said “This can’t go.”  Not a good thing since I already checked my bag and the lightsaber was in my carry-on. I just about fainted (no really and truly – I have high blood pressure and started to get lightheaded and woozy  ) and frantically started to look for all my documentation that I just attended the SW Celebration, etc. etc.
Then the idiot TSA guy then said with a chuckle “Just joking, I know how much these things mean to folks like you!” Well thanks for the heart attack, you moron!
Now, I know, I know – put the lightsaber in my checked baggage next time or ship it back...and the TSA dude is just doing his job...but he was clearly messing with me for his amusement.  If we are not allowed to joke with them, then he cannot joke with us. And I told him this. He apologized and even helped me collect all my things off the conveyer belt when he realized how visibly shaken he made me. I told him to expect a lot more lightsabers and the like that day and he promised not to joke with any of them! Hopefully he learned his lesson!

This "elemental_fantasy" cracks me up. Let's see. He is mad because HE did not preregister for the costume contest and the spaces ran out. He's mad because HE did not bother to do ANY research beforehand as to how the con center was laid out and what events were held where. He was mad because the security people were not there to be his personal information retreival sytem, but where there to actually provide line control and SECURITY. He expresses how as a Star Wars fan he loved it, but he still hated it.
By my score that does not make CIV a "Horrible" fan convention, it makes "elemental_fantasy" a HORRIBLE, illprepared convention attendee. There are always a few at every con. Hopefully "elemental_fantasy" will stay away from cons and just go to spas for vacation, where it IS their job to pamper you to the point where you do not have to think or plan for yourself. Cons are fun, but YOU have to put in some work to have the best time and get the most out of it.
