I remember an interview with Portman on Conan when she was promoting "Cold Mountain" and she basically stated that she wouldn't EVER consider attending a Star Wars Convention unless she was in desperate need of cash...

Ouch!

Sooooo.... I seriously doubt she made that statement about CIV... rolling_eyes

Because frankly, if she's that uninterested in conventions, then why on EARTH would she ever bother making a statement about one? confused

Your Honor, I rest my case!! flag

You can't take whatever is said on late-night talk shows all that seriously, Dorme my dear. I think whoever was responsible for inviting/not inviting her believed that she was taking her career on the Harrison Ford route, trying to wipe her hands clean of the series. The appearance mentioned above where she promoted V for Vendetta was probably the only way she'd ever do a convention, however I don't think Carrie Fisher is all that hard-up for money and she showed-up.

That being said, where was Mark Hamill? I would have traded any actor who wore a mask or a helmet in the movies for Mark Hamill at Celebration 4.

Mark Hamill was out of town on business, I know that for a fact.

He was supposed to be there for part of Saturday. I spoke with an OPX employee who told me Thursday that he had already cancelled and showed me the Hamill pictures they had made up for him to sign. OPX later sold them for the usual $5 a photo.

Hayden Christensen was also the a GOH signer that had to drop out. It would have been cool to have seen Hayden and Mark at a panel.

He never cancelled, they were trying to get him to sign for at least one day, but his schedule did not permit it. His wife and daughter were at CIV and confirmed that he was not able to make it back home in time for the convention.

I'll say up front I realize that it's an actor's right to make that choice. However...Star Wars helped to make Natalie and especially Harrison stand out a little bit more on the Hollywood map. In other words Star Wars hasn't exactly hurt either one of their careers, okay. It has given them more of a fan base which tells studio execs involved with other films 'hey, they might draw in some bucks!' So why not show a little gratitude for the hands that fed (the SW films and fans) and show up at a SW convention once in a while - especially an anniversary con?

I agree. She has every right and choice in her decisions but come on Natalie whether you like it or not Star Wars is a part of you now. One cannot shed Star Wars that easily.

Natalie was acting before she was in SW. SW didn't exactly "make her".

Yeah, I think it's time this one went bye-bye. 'Cause it's "who cares" time now.
