It wasn't too bad, and we played with other people's decks, but for some reason when I was packing I didn't think about throwing one in my bag when I normally always have a deck with me.

Hi Mo-- ALL of that general information (or links to how to get to it) had been posted for months on the stickied "General" thread that I believe Valedakor did. Info on Metro, DASH buses, cheap Union Station flyaway bus service to LAX, etc. -- there was a lot of discussion on many different threads. I guess the best thing is, check all the C(whatever) threads for final updated info on threads, before leaving! That hotel thing sucked though...
SPJ
I was aware of all the wonderful information Valedakor provided. However, I was referring more to the convention organizers... they went so far as to arrange shuttle busses, there was nothing as far as I could see to stop them from arranging a deal with a local restaurant to offer service a little later at night, or even just printing up/ordering some already printed brochures to have readily available at the relevant locations such as the hotels and convention center....
In my case, I got caught with a sticky situation the day before my departure, as I had very little printer paper left and had to make a critical decision: print out my term paper and hand it in before I left (the due date was Memorial Day, which is not a holiday here in Canada), or take late marks on it and print out Valedakor's information instead. I was able to print two pages of tips from Valedakor after my paper but it wasn't enough. Plus, there were surely many people there without the benefit of knowing about helpful message boards such as this.
I enjoyed Celebration IV immensely, but also had a multitude of small to medium-sized complaints about it, largely to do with the surrounding area. Most of which could easily have been rectified if the convention organizers had just taken note that their location this time around was very, very different from nice, little, close-packed, "you can walk anywhere you might need to go" Indianapolis... and made a bit of effort to bridge that gap with some useful information.
It is wonderful to have the fans interacting and helping one another, but in this case I just don't feel it's appropriate for the burden to rest solely on the fans.

There was a link in some thread for Super Shuttle. Each way was only $15 which wasn't bad and I booked and paid weeks in advance online so didn't have to worry on that at all.
And yes, you must stay for entire Con!!

Was the Rebel Legion Party awful or something? All the RL members (and 501st and Jedi Assembly) I met at C4 were great folks. What the party too expensive? In a bad location? What was it?
Qui-Dawn: I am so sorry to hear about your experience! Saturday was a crazy day and very crowded. I would like to think it was a non-SW fan ("a mundane" ) was the culprit. Again, I am so sorry you suffered so much.

So sorry, I had no idea you had your purse stolen Dawn! I'm just glad you got it back and you were personally safe, and that's the important part.
I don't have many complaints about the convention, I had a great time. Next time I should just probably tweak it a little by:
Planning at least a week ahead of time instead of the day before (less frazzled)
Making checklist
Exchanging contact information with friends so we don't miss each other at convention
Figure out local restaurants-ended up spending $100 on one meal. Should have done room service or something. Couldn't really find anything within walking distance
Things that went right:
Brought laptop (was invaluable, both for internet and for downloading convention pics each night to clear digital camera)
Priceline hotel-I got a 3 star Marriott; it was really nice, had free shuttle service, great facilities, only $70 per night. I've got no complaints there
Next time I think I may also get some autographs. And oh yeah I'll have to be a SW.com member for the next time to enjoy the extra priviledges I didn't get this time

Lufta Shif - ohhh, yes, I quite agree, for sure and certain, but actually, the thing of it is - that my belongings were snatched from the CIV mixer, so as a result that means that it unfortunately had to have been a so-called "fan", a pass holder of one stripe or another, by my understanding; in theory, of course, I suppose maybe it's feasible that a "mundane" could've snuck in there, but alack-and-alas it's probably more likely by far, if infuriatingly and demoralizingly, dishearteningly so, that 'twas indeed a fellow pass-holding pseudo "fan", who's to be never again dignified with the appellation, who pulled this sort of callous, heartless, remorseless stunt on a fellow true, actual, factual fan, and one who was innocent and trusting and who ree-hee-*heally* did not deserve anything like this in the first place. Much as none of us would ever like to think that anyone in our fandom could be capable of something so heartless against a total stranger especially, well....still, it happened. *shrugs* Of course, in talking about it after the fact with my roommates (dear, sweet, understanding and compassionate and altogether *wonderful*, by the way, and I swear they helped keep me sane through the whole nightmarish ordeal) - well, we also reluctantly, tacitly, grimly figured that maybe what it all boils down to is some fellow convention-goer was just looking for more quick cash to snatch for the exhibitor's hall, the store or whatever else there. Maybe *that*, in the end, is what it amounts to....that sort of violation and betrayal of trust, that very eggregious invasion of privacy, rights and personal space....someone just lookin' to steal a quick buck or three for more merchandise, that's it. And I can't even begin to describe the low and appalling depths of something like that, I mean, if that's what was ultimately driving whoever took it upon themselves to put a completely innocent stranger and convention-goer, and *fan* to boot, through a terrible ordeal like this. *shaking head* Dawn.

While it totally sucks that your purse got stolen, I'm having some trouble following the logical pathway that you're following when you claim that because someone is a thief, they must not love Star Wars.

*raises eyebrow* The point of it is merely to say that, in my experience, we were *all* of us there for a single, common, unifying experience - everyone was, or at least by all rights and natural expectation *should* have been, there for the same essential reason - namely, because all of us love SW and it's brought us together as one to the very same place, at the very same time....as, yes, that "one big happy family" if you will, affording us that sense of unifying community that we perhaps so rarely feel when we're all exiled to our own far-flung corners of the Outer Rim. In other words, then, this is an experience that I strongly feel, and I know I can't be the only one by any means, was meant to bring us all together where we could rest easy and comfortable knowing that everyone else there felt the exact same way we did, and that we didn't have to worry about feeling isolated or lonely.... Because, of course, with thousands upon countless myriad thousands of other like-minded fans there for the exact same shared reason, well, suffice it to say that perhaps it's not so easy to feel lonely....when we were all really the farthest thing possible from "alone" that it's likely to be. The crux of the point, then, is simply that....look, we were *all* of us there for a shared purpose, a common goal if you will - 'twas the same thing that brought us all together, that place, that time, made one big astonishing community of us if you will....I know I certainly felt so, and again, this is one of those instances where from talking to others there....they felt the exact same way, which did hearten me all the more. And so, then, it is precisely because of this sense of unifying purpose, this coming-together or the general sense of SW community-ness, if you will, that the very idea of any so-called "fan" so callously and heartlessly taking advantage of another fellow fan therein.... To be so deliberately cruel like that, I mean, to show such little regard or care for another's feelings, belongings or personal space....to so *violate* another fellow fan in such a fashion, when by all rights and reason everyone's there for the same purpose, it's what's brought everyone there as one....for it to happen, then, truly speaks *very* ill of someone who'd do such a thing, someone who'd obviously think absolutely nothing and have no conscience, no remorse whatsoever about violating and betraying the trust of another innocent fan, there for the exact same purpose. It is something that simply *cannot* be abided, in my experience, and for sure and certain it says much about the character, or lack thereof, of someone who'd pull a stunt like this....on anyone, obviously, but *especially* on a fellow like-minded innocent fan. It keeps coming back to that, yes, because that is a factor which rankles just as deeply, stings just as sharply, and which makes it all the more something truly unfathomable. In other words, then, yes....plainly put, anyone who was there, supposedly girding themselves a "fan" the same as all the rest of us, the same as me, yetwho didn't care at all about conscience, remorse, compassion, *none* of it in violating me and my sense of safety, my personal space and comfort, in taking what was *not* theirs and putting me through a dreadful, hellacious ordeal....any supposed "fan" who would do such a thing to another innocent fan there for the shared overriding purpose of *fandom*....to me it does indeed prove that *no* real fan, no one who actually cared about their fellow fans and who appreciated them and who enjoyed being with others of like mind and inclination....no one who was a fan with actual *heart*, in other words, would ever do such a thing. *No* fan at all, then, who would stoop to such a low level....and I met enough wonderful, kind, funny, compassionate and caring, *good* fellow fans during those five precious days to know the difference. Dawn.

I think I understand a little bit of what's going on here, and it just hit me-Dawn's from Canada, and in Canada they tend to be a bit more pacifist and trusting. From what I understand they don't lock their doors and frown on useage of firearms.
Unfortunately, L.A.'s a bit different. Coming from California myself, I love people but pretty much have no trust for them until I get to know them. Dawn's just innocent.

OMG, quidawn, that's terrible . At least you got most of your stuff back, but it's devastating to have something like that happen to you, especially when you're on vacation. I remember back in 1984 when my family and I visited Philadelphia. Crooks broke into our car and stole all kinds of stuff. I agree that it was likely someone short on cash and morals. Had it been a professional crook you wouldn't have seen boo of credit cards, the digital camera, or even your passport again. Unfortunately attending a SW convention doesn't make you Mother Teresa.
