greedofan posted: But on something like the GG exclusives, it sickens me to see those on ebay when I could not even get one for myself.
Whoops! I guess I wasn't clear. What I meant was that I was unable to get one of the R2/Yoda maquettes. I pre-ordered a Gree and didn't want anything else. I've been so vocal about the GG disaster to my friends that I forgot not everyone knows my situation
As far as the vendors go, they were getting around the no vendor rule by buying regular badges.
The day I waited was NOT Monday (vendor day). I was about 30th in line outside and could not get one. I talked to multiple people who waited outside around 4 or 5 every day and could not get one. That indicates a real problem.

I'll understand if everyone hates me, as I was able to pre-order the R2/Yoda maquette and barely had to wait in line to pick it up on Thursday. But please don't hate me too much, because, like all of the collectibles I buy, it was purchased for my own collection, and is now proudly sitting on display in my apartment. I don't think I've ever sold a convention exclusive for profit - I did pick up a few extra of the regular Hasbro exclusive figures at CII-IV, but they have either been sold at-cost to collectors who were unable to get one or unable to attend the convention, given to friends/family members, or traded for a different exclusive figure that I was unable to get.
Keep in mind that only around 20-25% of the R2/Yoda maquettes were destined for Celebration IV, the rest will be available at other conventions, and I'm expecting that the prices should come down a bit as more become available.
pwinklespi posted: Yeah I missed out on the R2 Maquette, but they only sold 100 per day. Monday was the ONLY day that vendors were being put at the front of the line. I was one of the first 20 to 100 people in everday and there weren't any vendors there.
If 100 were sold per day, and everyone was limited to one of each item, how did you not get one if you were one of the first 20-100 people in line everyday?

Did you guys read the program? In it, it says that no merchandise from the SW store should be resold anywhere else at the con. I don't think that was enforced.
BTW, the only things I've ever sold online are SW items I got tired of, or have extras of.

Yes, but the next time they're available is Comic Con, and we all know that's going to have a few more people wanting to get in than CIV did

pwinklespi posted: People who want to sell items they bought at CIV are entitled. Hell, look at the guys with the medallions. They were free and now they are selling for up to $2,000. Check the auctions on Ebay. It's ridiculous. I say good for them. I would like to make $2,000 on something I got for free. Everyone thinks that sellers and buyers are evil. Why? Because they have something you couldn't get at the con? If a buyer has the money and just wants to buy it for a few hundred above retail, he is entitled to do that. Look at how much our trips cost. Maybe someone just wanted the exclusive and didn't want to go to the con. I sold a bunch of stuff on Ebay. GG exclusives, Figures, Statues and oter stuff and I made some money back for me and my wife. I find it funny that in 5 days some of the "true collectors" weren't smart enough or fast enough to get 1 exclusive I got 5 of. It wasn't hard.
So thqat I don't get killed, I sold a bunch of GG stuff for a really reasonable price to people that couldn't make the con.
SW sellers and buyers are NOT evil, many of them are very annoying. That's just my experience. I've been roomies with a couple of them in the past 2 Celebrations and those roomies' motivations for being there was totally different from the rest of my group. I've heard this quote so many times from them: "...I need the Fett maquette, the McPrints, etc...TO PAY FOR MY TRIP."
There's nothing wrong with making money, I do that all the time while I'm at work. I wonder if some sellers are making their money back after all the TIME they put into selling. To take a few days off from work just to go to the Celebrations & try to make a profit is beyond me. To me that's valuable time that a seller could spend on a vacation that they would truly enjoy.
Now I can see how someone can make money by selling. Those are probably the owners of toy shops who actually have a business plan. But for someone who does this sporadically like every Celebration, I see it as a time inefficiency issue.
In my experience, obtaining the exclusives required advance planning. That's one of the reasons why I don't like scalpers because they might ruin my plans of adding a certain exclusive to my collection . If you weed out the scalpers away from the queues, the chances are better for me and fellow collectors of getting exclusives at face value and not getting ripped off on Ebay .

Ok, complaint time, even thought it's not about eBay. There's a guy on one of the boards I visit that's trying to sell all 5 of the Gentle Giant exclusives for $550 shipped. By my estimations, he would have paid around $210 for them at the con. Add about $60 for shipping at most, and he's trying to rake in over $200 in profit. It's people like this which is why I couldn't get my one maquette and bust-up set that I wanted to keep and happily display

So then don't bid on his auction, plain and simple. There is nothing wrong with him trying to get that price for his auction. Just look at how much the set of 12 collector panel medallions are going for. How about a $2,000 profit on something that was FREE?
If he gets his $200+ profit for his auction, then more power to him. I'm sure there are/will be plenty of other eBay sellers that will have the exclusive that you want in a separate auction.

It's not an auction, nor did I say I was interested in buying it. I was just stating my dismay.

Mokitty posted: My big problem surrounding the Gentle Giant stuff was the fact that so many were popping up in vendor booths right at the convention at such outrageous mark ups when due to confusion or whatever else people who had waited in line for several hours could not get any. It was just a blatant money grab which, I know, that is capitalism, and I have no problem with capitalism or with people who want to spend several hundred extra on these things doing so, but it seemed unfair of the people involved to have taken the opportunity away from those who probably can't AFFORD the extra hundred dollars (since they spent all their money just to get there) and then to rub it in their faces so blatantly. Whether the "vendors" were allowed to the head of the line or not, the fact remains that some of them had multiples of the exclusives for sale in their booths on both Saturday and Sunday.
Just to clarify something, I worked with one of the vendors on Wednesday helping them set up. Gentle Giant didn't have their stuff on offer to anyone on Wednesday, the guys there were still just as busy as everyone else in making sure that their booth was set up. Most of the vendors that had GG stuff got it from GG before CIV happened.
Wilderness_Comedian posted: Did you guys read the program? In it, it says that no merchandise from the SW store should be resold anywhere else at the con. I don't think that was enforced.
None of the stuff from the Store was on sale by any vendors that I saw. What people are complaining about are the things that were on offer from other vendors.

There were vendors with signs offering to buy the Store exclusives, but I didn't see them selling any.

Last time I saw the Official Program that I bought for $5, going for $80!!!
Any thoughts on this?
Here's the link of items:
Sorry - unless you can prove these are your auctions, links to eBay aren't allowed, even for info purposes.
I'm looking for that Adam Hughes Slave Leia print... It was only $75 at the con and I've only seen 3 for sale so far. If anyone comes across one, please keep me in mind!

HAHA! Oh well that's simple. The jerks at Gentle Giant decided to change the line everyday. So, Thursday, I walked in and the line was around the corner. I wasn about 100 to 150. Missed it that day. Friday, I ran to where the line started on Thursday and they decided to line people up on the other side of the booth. So instead of being 20th, I was now 200th. So the people who were way in the back of the line outside, were now at the cash register while I was in the back of the line. Got in a huge fight with a guy at GG because of that. Saturday, same thing. Lined up at the front and was told instantly that teh line was capped. I walked to the end and never moved. Finally they let me and my wife in. Persistance.
there was no order at all. There was nobody saying "the line starts here." It was all a guessiong game.
Oh and I didn't say I was one of the first 20-100 in line, I said 20-100 in. As in, I was in the building.

Yuck! I saw that. He sealed it in resin.
This is why I don't buy anything at Cons unless they are the same price as something I could get at Target or Wal-mart. I was going to get a handful of buttons and postcards that were a very fair price (10 for $10) but it turns out my cash was already gone.
