Indy would be great, nice little town and was within driving distance(11.5 hours). I would be OK with Chicago, what's another hour to drive. Since I missed CIV because of a death in the family, I won't miss this one if it does happen.

I just hope they release some official information on starwars.com by the end of May. I have been looking for my financial status right now and it looks like i may not be able to go unless i can pay off some large bills this year. Stupid recession! Bad time to have another star wars celebration!

Again, I doubt you'll hear anything until mid summer. Sansweet said they wouldn't make a decision until after Celebration Japan and that's in mid July. Sorry. =( Start saving. =)

I've been to all 4 Celebrations.
The one I had the most fun at, the one I still think about from time to time, is the one that was in the absolute WORST place:
Denver.
You've all heard the horror stories, but there was something...magical about that convention. I'm sure it's mainly the fact that it was the first and that the anticipation for TPM was crazy, but even though I was on a shoestring budget and there was NOTHING to do outside the convention, I had the best time. Rain and all.
Having said that, I really would like to see C5 back in LA. I realize what people are saying about the lack of nearby hotels and restuarants, but that is secondary to me because the majority of my time is going to be spent AT THE CONVENTION CENTER.
Indy was a NIGHTMARE!
Has everyone forgotten the line to the store? People wasted an ENTIRE DAY standing in that line. How about not being allowed into the exibitors room because there were too many people and the space wasn't big enough.
How about just trying to walk the hallway on the ground floor? It was like a Mosh-Pit.
Anyone try to use the restroom?
The place is just too small.
LA had none of that.
If anything, I hear complaints that it was TOO BIG! Better too big than too small in my opinion.
If it's not going to be in LA then Chicago sounds like a nice BIG space, (I'm going by what you guys have posted here.)
I definatly don't want it to be anywhere that has a high crime rate, so that leaves out Philly, Baltimore, DC, Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City and Cincinatti.
Just my opinion.

I did not have any problems with bumping into people at CIII. Then again I am a large guy so people steered clear of me. LOL! I would rather have CV in 2010 personally. Then I am bias because it would allow the Indiana Convention Center to complete the expansion. Then people would not complain about crowded lines. The exibit sq. ft. is suppose to jump from 400,000 sq. ft. to 750,000 sq. ft.

While i would love for a convention to be next year, CV in 2010 makes sense in the fact that so far, all convention numbers matched the movies; CI same year as Ep. I, CII for Ep. II and so on. CV being in 2010 would match the 30th anniversary of Ep. V and would not break Convention traditions.
However, it seems like next year will be the year

Next year is also the 10th Anniversary of the first prequal Episode 1 The Phantom Menace so if it was next year it would still be an anniversary celebration

I agree with banshee, (even though I've only been to one celebration and that was CIV), the convention center in LA was massive and had plenty of room. I'm in Houston and we have a pretty big convention center but the one in LA made the Houston one look like an Ewoks hut .
I had a blast in LA myself and I wouldn't mind CV being next year and if it's in Chicago that would be cool as well as I'd like to see Chicago and I'm sure there's lots of things to do and see there (as in LA).

I was curious on the sizes of the various convention centers around the places the celebrations have been held previously and then checked out the size of Chicago, New York and Houston (since I'm there) and here are the results I've found ... which surprised me that the Houston convention cnter is bigger than the LA one (which to me does not look as big):
- McCormick Place in Chicago (exhibition space) = 2,670,000 square feet
- George R Brown Convention Center in Houston (exhibition space) = 853,500 square feet BUT can go up to 1.2 million square feet of flexible space.
- Los Angeles Convention Center (exhibition space) = 720,000 sq ft
- Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City (exhibition space) = over 675,000 square feet (2010 it will increase it's size by 45%)
- Denver Convention Center (exhibition space) = 584,000 square feet
- Indiana Convention Center (exhibition space) 400,000 square feet

Wow - I did not realize how huge the McCormick CC in Chicago really was.
Sounds like a perfect location for C5 based on size alone.

McCormick is big because it's swallowed everything around it -- that's why there's hardly any place to stay or eat nearby .

Is the Hyatt at McCormick Place the only hotel within reasonable walking distance from the CC?

Yes. Actually it's basically the only hotel within any kind of reasonable distance, walking or otherwise.
