The Javits Center is great for a convention in the scale of NYCC. The crowds were manageable and the exhibit hall floor plan was laid out well. I had no trouble getting around the exhibit hall and there were almost no lines at any of the vendor booths.

However, it would not work so well for a con with the expected attendance of a Celebration.

Here's hoping this is nothing more than another rumor....

While I've never been to NYC and I'd love to see the place, I don't really want to consider going there for a SW Celebration - especially having read everyone's opinions here on the convention center.

I hope this is another rumor that is speculation from a fan. New York City is the worst place for a star wars convention. I thought L.A. and Chicago were big. New York is several times the size of those two and easy to get lost especially if you never been there. Keep it central Mr. Sansweet like Indy or Chicago!!! I hope he reads this message board and sees how many people dislike the idea of New York City hosting it.

Oh WOW...I certainly hope that it is not in NY. I have nothing against NY, but it is way too busy and crowded. Not to mention the traffic, oh the traffic, did I mention the traffic? Terrible and expensive.

I doubt this is where C5 is going to be held. This has to be a rumor!!! <crossing fingers>

NY wouldn't bother me too much but it's far from my 1st choice. I'm still pushing for Baltimore. LOL!

I don't know about all of you, but I was in LA for CIV for all five days (marathon Wednedsday, fan Thursday and the regular weekend, etc.) and never saw anything but LAX, the highway, the convention center, the Fig, and the hotel that held the Fan Club breakfast. The city to me does not matter as long as there is a major airport nearby, a decent convention center, ample hotels in walking distance and crowds of fellow fans to share it all with! LACC was awesome, though! Wish it was there again!

I'm with you there, Lufta. I actually went in a day early to Indy so I'd get the chance to see the sights, because I knew I wouldn't get the chance once Celebration started. Downtown Indianapolis has some amazing monuments, it was good to be able to walk around and see them.

I like New York -- lived there for a while -- but it's another place that's very expensive to stay in. Justin is right, nothing much within walking distance. Same for Chicago. If they were to pick either place, they'd have to have another shuttle system set up, and I sure hope they learned their lesson from the one in L.A., which didn't run well at all.

True, we are not exactly going for sightseeing, we are going for the convention. The main focus would be how to limit the time spent traveling from hotel to convention or from food to convention and keep it slightly affordable. That way we can spend more time at the convention and also spend more money there as well.

In the end, i think it will benefit them more and us as well. I'd rather buy something at the convention that i can keep than an outrageously priced and definitely not worth it burger

I just don't think there will be a star wars celebration in 2009 now that Mr. Sansweet said there will be no officially word until after Celebration Japan is over at the end of July. Just too late for star wars fans especially with the recession and the credit crunch going on. Not to mention the price of a barrel of oil is near $120 with regular gas averaging $3.60 a gallon. Going to be a pain trying to drive to any star wars convention. If they have it in 2010, Good Lord, the price might be $6.00 a gallon or more! Let's hope not or I won't be going any where!

Wow i thought i was pessimistic but boy do you beat me!!!!

I just think 5 or 6 months months or whenever they decide to announce it after Celebration Japan is not adequate time for fans to gather money for a Celebration in April or May, 2009.

Lufta Shif's Theory: Maybe the announcement seems "late" because CV will be later in the summer - June or later.

Lufta Shif's Rationale: Celebrations are a family show. Episode I's target kid audience ten years ago (age 12 or so?) is old enough now to start having families of their own and summertime is the best time for travel for families. Old school fans like us will travel whenever and whereever to be there, but without movie releases or major anniversary's they have to make future Celebrations easier to attend for a wider fan base.

Thoughts? thinking

Disclaimer: This theory was thought up before the benefit of my morning coffee! tongue

I dunno. It's certainly been the tradition to hold Celebration in the Spring somewhere. And then there's the weather thing. Most everywhere on "the list" of suspected places gets awfully hot in the summertime. As those who live there will attest, you really don't want to be in L.A., Chicago or New York -- or probably Indianapolis for that matter -- in the summer. I can speak from experience; you get that many people in one area, a la Comic-Con, which is always held in July, and it ain't any fun, folks.

While I would agree somewhat with this, the "smart" SW fan has already began saving for C5 months ago.

With the Celebration pattern basically set at every 2-3 years here in the US, fans should count on that time table and save just about every year for the next upcoming Celebration.

That way the old saying "A Little in Abundance is a Lot" can be applied to fans and their Celebration saving. The cost of attending a Celebration is then spread out and does not hit fans in their wallet so hard all at once.

Just my opinion. My wife and I started our C5 fund the week after we got back from CIV. We basically added "SW Celebration" as another monthly "bill" that we need to set aside money for. When it finally comes time to travel to the con, the funds are already allocated and accounted for.
