I agree with you, Justin. No problems here with starting up a Celebration fund right away. If nothing else, if for some awful reason they decided to cancel the doggone thing, you could use the money for something else!

Yeah, like therapy! I would go insane if there was to be no more Celebrations! I shudder at the thought!

I was thinking about this yesterday as it was May the 4th... Have they ever had a convention that had May 4th as one of the dates? Wouldnt it cool to have it that way since it's a Starwars day in the first place?

ugh, I would hate to have it in NYC. It is not the easiest place to get around.
Chicago would make sense. It really isn't THAT expensive, imo. Just messing around with some dates and rates next year April thru May, the Embassay Suites on Columbus (which is downtown with views on the lake) is about 100 dollarsa night. I am sure people can find cheaper rates at many other hotels. Also, it is not that hard to get around downtown Chicago either if one does not have a car or other means. Walking is good for you, but if it is raining or something that is out of the question. At Domincs (a grocery store in Chicago), the CTA has 7 day passes where one can ride the bus and the EL as many times as possible for 20 bucks. The city has really done a lot to clean up the El and the buses. Also, the Metra is a good opinion if one is staying out of the city and it is close to the metra stops. Plus, there are two airports. I know NYC has about three. Midway really doesn't have a lot of delays. O'hare definately has its share of problems, but it a HUGE hub for international flights should anyone from overseas wish to join in the Celebration.
Here is the link to that visitor's pass I was talking about:

I don't have the luxury of saving a little out of each paycheck each week and set it aside for a star wars celebration that may or not happen in 2009 or 2010. Some people live paycheck to paycheck and having nothing left but gas money for work. Then again I interest in star wars has been fading ever since that last day of CIII in Indy. It was greatest day of my life and nothing seems to have compared to it. That is bad when I am so devoted to star wars that even a simple date with a woman is not fun. Everything I do star wars gets me excited.

I'm REALLY hoping they wait until 2010.
That way they can hype the live action tv series which should be hitting the airwaves that fall, and both Indy and LA should have finished thier upgrades, (Indy-the convention center itself and LA the surrounding area with new hotels and restuarants)thereby giving them more options on where to hold it.

Hmmm...I see it has been posted on WizardWorld Chicago's site that Steve Sansweet is a special guest at next month's convention. Its not one of the usual stops for Sansweet or LFL (I know this to be true, we go every year )...I wonder if it might be related to any possible Celebration announcements? I can't think of anything else coming that would require the director of fan relations (I don't think the Clone Wars cuts it).

OK, I'm a bit confused here. If you live payhceck to paycheck, how would you ever be able to save for a Celebration regardless if it was announced 6 months or 6 years in advance?
Wouldn't these be the exact type of people who should save small amounts in advance since coming up with a huge lump sum in a short amount of time is not a feasible option for them?
I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your money, but if this is the case, I think you have much more important financial matters to deal with than worrying about when a Celebration is announced.

Everyone plans differently. Some people just wait until an official announcement and then they'll charge the entire trip. Maybe they get a bonus later to pay it off with or they're like most American's who put it on a revolving account and make payments. You're right, Justin... it's all about priorities. I think of myself as a big fan and I imagine my life is somewhat different because of the movie but I in no way live my life around it. It's a movie... but not a way of life for me. Others apparently are different. I haven't figured out my own life yet so I'm not in a position to figure out anyone else's. You'd think people would tend to make the right decisions about their finances but look at the state of the world we're in right now. That's not always the case.

What I did for CIII was use the most recent paycheck plus whatever I have in the savings. I did not have charging has a method of payment back then. I am not sure charging on a credit card and maxinng the card out for just one celebration is a good idea in these troubling times. At least I know for me! I am on my boss's bad list so you never know if I will have a job a year from now. LOL!

Seeing how things are right now, I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed back until the following year. Seems dark times are ahead....

I think it needs to be pushed back to 2010 just because of the housing slump, credit crunch, increasing oil and gas prices, the value of the U.S. dollar dropping rapidly, and inflation increasing. Plus we can wait and see if the stimulus tax checks actually help out by then.

In Chicago would be a great choice as there are so many options for travel and places to stay as well as accessible and enjoyable restaurants at all price levels. I'd go to Chicago - I'd rather not go back to LA

I've asked this before and don't recall getting a response. Isn't Chicago known as the conventional capital of the US? I could have sworn I heard once that there were more conventions in Chicago then any other US city. That would lead me to believe it's a good choice!
