I haven't heard of Chicago being called that before, but it does make sense. It is centrally located and has a lot to offer. I really hope that CV is going to be there happy

It's a huge convention center, so I wouldn't be surprised it being called that. But it's not the most convenient place in the world. As in L.A., there really are very few hotel rooms within walking distance, and the food situation is not very good, either. For a convention where people won't be attending on expense accounts, it's an expensive proposition.

Indy convention center is convinent with a big movie theater next door, a mall, several restaurants, and parking garages. There is 4-5 hotels connected to the convention center by skywalks.

I vote for San Diego! Yea, I know the Comic-Con is there every July, but it's just such an awesome city! Great weather, too!

I've asked this before and don't recall getting a response. Isn't Chicago known as the conventional capital of the US? I could have sworn I heard once that there were more conventions in Chicago then any other US city. That would lead me to believe it's a good choice! happy

Actually I think Las Vegas would be a better claimant on that title.

I'd like to get everyone's opinion on something regarding Celebrations:

Did you like the fact that GenCon/LFL reserved hotel space for fans for CIV and then released those rooms on a dedicated day?

Or would you rather have been able to reserve your room on your own the day CIV was announced?

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Figueroa for CIV (which was not part of the housing reservation list). So we didn't have to wait for the rooms to be released - I reserved our room the same day CIV was announced when I got home from work.

Would you be in favor of this happening again for C5?

A housing bureau is something that every convention has (it's part of doing business in the hotel world), so I just consider it a part of the conventions that I attend, and so I don't have a problem with reserving rooms through the bureau. Also, rates are generally lower than what you can get on your own, especially if a citywide convention is involved. Check out the prices in San Diego during Comic-Con, for instance.

This opinion doesn't seem uncommon and I don't get where it is coming from. Rosemont (Donald E. Stephens Convention Center) would be the likely choice if C5 was in Chicago (that is where Sansweet is visiting next month). It has three hotels attached by skyway with another one right beside it. There are numerous other hotels and motels in the area because it is about 15-20 min. from O'Hare. There are plenty of places to eat to fit any budget (some walking required depending on where you want to go wink ). Expense is another thing, but having recently been to Chicago, L.A., and New York, Chicago was the cheapest of the three in everything.

Exactly!! I was just in Chicago for my spring break and it was not expensive at all compared to a lot of other places I have visited.

Star saving for C5 now, and fans will be able to more-easily afford to go no matter what city is selected for the destination, especially if it is held in 2010.

Thanks for letting us know this! However, if you'll read through, you'll see that we assumed that McCormick Place would be the venue, hence the spotlight on that. Now that we know that Steve is looking somewhere else, that's good news.

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn, my first choice. Got it through the housing bureau. Waited about five minutes. You just gotta have the touch! happy

Quite obviously, I don't have it! How far is the Holiday Inn? I've got a room at the Hilton and one at the Marriott, but neither is at the con rate. Booked them right after the CC last year. Sounds like I need to learn your trick!
