Yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of Celebration I, which took place April 30 - May 2, in Denver, Colorado to celebrate the newest Star Wars movie in sixteen years.

For me, it was something building for two years after the Special Editions and the announcement of a new Star Wars film. I had just gotten my first costume made (Luke ROTJ), and registered for TF.N to talk about this upcoming gathering of fellow Star Wars fans.

With the dark shadow of the Columbine massacre just before (and nearby), the mood was somewhat gloomy (and the rain didn't help either). But my brother and I had a great time nonetheless. Before digital cameras, we had to rely on a film camera and had to take multiple pics of things in the exhibit hall to make sure they came out alright.

There weren't many costumers, and some were pretty primitive compared to today's RL standards, and probably wouldn't get approved. wink One day in the rain waiting to get in, someone squeezed in under our umbrella - it was Anthony Daniels! But it was worth it - in a large tent with a dripping roof, we saw the debut of the "Duel of The Fates" music video, which the audience cheered for!

The exhibit area had some cool things too - the fan-built X-Wing, Anakin's podracer, the "naked" C-3PO amomg them, along with lots of vendors selling the numerous TPM products, including two giant inflatable Pepsi cans, with the TPM characters on them. The CI store was tiny, selling mostly t-shirts, caps, books, programs, and the Darth Maul jacket.

On another night, there was a "Jar Jar Jam" party at a local hall, where Ahmed Best performed with his reggae/funk band, and a then blonde Ray Park did some break dancing and rapping! My brother hung out with Rick McCallum, asking to be in Episodes II or III, and some people were asking to be clones for the next films.

It seemed so long ago, but it was the start of fandom like I'd never seen before, and a feeling that will never leave me!

Were you there? Maybe we met?!

I absolutely loved this week's look back at Celebration I. Having not attended C1 (or C2), it was great getting the chance to "re-live" the Celebration that started it all.

I remember (and collected) all the C1 articles from SW Insider, so some of the archive stories on SW.com weren't new to me.

But if the coverage did one thing, it made me geeked up even MORE for C5!

I saw no announcements on starwars.com for a Star Wars Celebration V even though they celebrated Celebration I all week. Oh well! I am broke so it makes no difference if there is one this year. I know I have placed my vote for Indy on the homepage of theforce.net if they have one. I might be able to get enough money for gas and food for a one day trip if they had it in Indy. I know Los Angeles, Orlando, and Baltimore are terrible choices for me. Keep my finger crossed for good luck for Indy to host it.

Wow - I hadn't even thought of that. Talk about a perfect way/date to announce C5!

If anyone's followed the pattern of the previous Celebrations, you know that they've either come when a new film is coming out or the anniversary of one. So its a no-brainer to think that it will definitely be next year, and as far as where it will be - who cares? It's going to be nearer for some and too far for others! I don't understand the whining and complaining! I've gone to all of them, and only one has been near me, and I still went and had a great time.

Its just common sense that you start saving up for it NOW (if you haven't already). Some may skip a major convention to go, because Celebrations don't happen to often, and who knows how many they'll have?

My two credits.

I'd welcome CE2 news too - hopefully they'll keep it in the UK - or just have a Celebration UK! (Only saying this because CV will pretty much dent my wallet so to do two in one year would financially cripple me!)

No, it was one day later.
C4 was announced on May 26th and premiere for ANH was May 25th (according to IMDB).

But an announcement at May 21th would certainly be nice.

Anyway, this is most likely the month it will come - can't wait. dancing

Speaking to someone from LFL last year, they mentioned Germany as a possibility for CEII. And I'm not surprised that CV wasn't announced on Cinco de Mayo. Talk about grasping at straws. rolling_eyes C'mon, everyone, just be patient. I know people at LFL and pass by there on occasion, and they are so tight-lipped. Personally, all I can say is start saving $$$ NOW!

Oh we're just having fun - you know that that's part of the fun of the 'Line' -

Indeed, we should have a GIL thread for C-5 as soon as it's announced!

It does feel like a virtual line already doesn't it? I'd go do it for real if only we knew where it was being held lol! (kidding!)
