I think that after letting it slip at SCCC that C5 is down to a few cities and Chicago was rumored to be one. You think we might see an announcement at Wizard World since there is such a big Star Wars involvement and Steve Sansweet will be there.

I dunno... didn't he say that the announcement would be made on starwars.com? Never said he would be announcing it at a venue.

Perhaps a concurrent announcement? Who knows? Wherever C5 may be I hope we know by the end of next weekend. This speculation is getting monotonous. I'd rather start planning for C5 than speculate where it is going to be. wink

Agreed. I convinced my wife now that my son is 3 and will be 4 at the next convention to let us all go. So I wanna start getting a plan together.

There is all sorts of speculation on the where and when for a CV, but I wonder WHO would Lucasfilm get to run it? A Celebration is a pretty substantial trade show and LFL knows they need someone to run it for them. That is fairly critical if the event is to be a success and I'm far more concerned about that than when or where it will be.

There are tons of destination management companies that can do this for LFL. I continue to be surprised that they used GenCon, when there are so many truly professional convention management companies in the U.S. GenCon was probably cheap -- but the old saying applies -- you get what you pay for.

Yeah, after CIII (the first one I went to) I was surprised and disappointed that GenCon was running CIV, which did make improvements. But I credit that less to anything GenCon did and more to the LA convention center being the right size for the crowd and the numerous volunteers who had worked SDCC and knew what they were doing.

Celebration has an organizational structure that is much more like a trade show than a fan convention. There are lots of management companies that can do that and in this economy they would be hungry and looking for business. Perhaps LFL wants Celebration to look more like a fan convention and a regular management company would not do that? I've heard that LFL asked the SDCC concom to run CIII, but they declined. Presumably they have more than enough on their plates.

A DMC can run a convention any way you want them to -- that's what they do. Now, they don't do this for free, so perhaps that's the stumbling block with LFL grin .

I wouldn't be surprised if GenCon was the lowest bidder to run C4, considering they filed for chapter 11 protection in February of last year after being sued by LFL and the temp agency they hired.

I knew that they would not announce the date or location at Chicago Comic-con. Just a gut feeling! I guess that means they are not giving fans a full 365 days to prepare and save money for Celebration V assuming they have Celebration V in May, June or July of 2010. Those other cities being mentioned earlier in the year are still in contention like Orlando, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Indianapolis. I know alot of people started making assumptions that it was going to be Chicago has the host. Until I see the official announcement on starwars.com I won't believe any of the rumors.
