Celebrations Savings?
Hey everybody! Long time reader, first time poster here. I've always been a Star Wars fan, but only recently have I really gotten into the idea of being part of the Star Wars fan community. What better way than to try my best to make it out to Celebrations, right? I know it's early, and I know there aren't really that many solid details, but I need to plan ahead. You see, I'm down in Texas and I'm a college student, so I don't have an ideal location for a lot of the places it might be, and I don't have a lot of money either. But, I have my mind set on going, and I'm not really a convention kind of guy so this is all new to me. In fact, I've never really planned a trip before so I don't know much at all.
I guess my biggest question is: do any of you guys have good tips for saving money on Celebration V? I'm already going with a buddy to split some of the bills, although most of that burden will probably fall to me. I'm not the kind of guy who would mind eating fast food instead of convention food or staying at a lower end hotel instead of the one across the street from the convention if it means I have more money to enjoy myself once I'm at the convention.
I think I'll be able to make the finances work, but it's tight enough that I want to try to do everything I can not to waste money on newbie mistakes if you know what I mean.
Thoughts?

It's easy to get swept away with all the merchandise that is on offer, both from the offical store and the vendors. Make a list and a set budget on what you can buy, and to what cost, and stick to that list. Otherwise you might end up with a lot of exclusives, fun stuff, things you didn't know existed, and a lot less money.

I limit myself to $100 for convention goods. That seems like a lot to me, but some people set aside much more. It depends on what is in your means I suppose.

I would suggest you try to find roommates - cram as many people as you can into your hotel room.
If you can stand to sleep like that for a few days, it'll save you a little of money in exchange for the sacrifice of comfort.
Maybe try setting aside a dedicated Celebration fund - saving a little bit every week, whatever you can afford, and letting it add up between now and then. I've found saving is pretty painless when it's done in small amounts.

When you get there, there will be TONS of stuff that you'll want that you never even knew existed. You have to be selective about the swag you buy, because not only will it deplete your funds quickly, but you also have to consider how you're going to get it back home.
I would advise, when the schedule comes out, plan where you want to be daily. Meaning, you want to go to this seminar at 10:30, this one at 1:00, etc, and expect to stand in LONG lines, so be prepared to get to your seminars/events very early. In the past, I have bought Lucky Charms and have munched on that while in line. It's not a meal, per se, but it's a cheap way to tide you over til you can eat bigger.
You'll want to stay with people if you can, share travel and lodging costs, which to me have been the biggest expenses.
Most of all, bring your camera and HAVE FUN!!

One of the ways to get stuff back home is to mail it. There was a USPS booth at C4 that was extremely busy the entire con (and yes the line was long!). I had to use it to mail Dajuan's cell phone back to her.
