They've indicated they don't want another sanctuary to develop.

Look, it wouldn't be a "sanctuary" in the sense that no one but "bashers" could post there! That's not what I'm suggesting. All the ground rules of the GAS would remain, except that critiquing the PT and SEs would be on topic and fully acceptable. What is so unreasonable about this? I feel it's unfair that we can't dis/bash/critique/make fun of the new STAR WARS movies in the thread that was created to replace the BS.

Well, the topic of the GAS, as you say, is the brilliance of the O-OT. Therefore, it stands to reason that the crappiness of the SE changes and the PT are entirely on-topic.

Sure, in the proper context, but not just open ended whatever goes bashing.

I can see that this discussion really is pretty much wanting to get the Sanctuary reinstated, now by turning the GAS into a new version of the Sanctuary.

Strilo, I don't think the Golden Age Society thread needs to turn into a new Sanctuary in order for at least most of the old Sanctuary regulars to make it their favorite thread. Goodness knows that for many months now I was merely skimming the bashing in the Sanctuary, but reading all the other stuff in the Sanctuary. Speaking for myself, it was the old-school and intelligent and relaxed atmosphere of the Sanctuary that I really found appealing. All these qualities can be found in the Golden Age Society thread if it's treated right. A certain amount of bashing is inevitable and indeed desirable, but of course I'd like for the lion's share of the conversation in there to be discussion of Golden Age Star Wars.

In fact, a certain part of me (perhaps the arch-bashing part?) wishes the Golden Age Society thread pretended that absolutely nothing "Star Wars" was made after the last Marvel SW comic was published in 1987. That way if anyone so much as whispered Hayden's name in there, they would be met with a chorus of "We don't serve their kind here!" mischief (This paragraph isn't a suggestion, just a whimsical [and perhaps naughty] thought.)

Out of interest, how long do we have with this Focus Group, until we have to start looking at winding it up and coming with the a few conclussions?

Well, again, Binary, we're not saying no bashing, we just setup the context by which it can occur so as not to derail the thread from its true purpose.

EDIT - G-GETT, I'm not sure, but personally I'd like to get things sorted out in the next couple of weeks. If we can't by then, I doubt we can period.

OK, thanks Stryph. So, basically mid to late June is abouy as long as we've got. So, a few more days for people to post how they feel, and then we've really got to get down and start looking at what action (if any) we're gonna recomend.

Are you saying that bashing can, in the context of a "compared to the golden age", take place in the GA thread?

While I can't speak for Stryphe, I can say that I've included criticisms of the SEs, the PT, and Lucas in some of my posts in the Golden Age Society thread.

When I've read everything that's already up here, I will start to contribute. I'd like to say some things now, but until I've looked at what's already been put down, it'd be unfair to everyone else. That aside, I will say right here and now: if some people think that they've been edged out of TFN, then we have a genuine problem, and if it can't be resolved, or a genuine solution cannot at least be offered in pursuit of a resolution, then everyone has failed and this site is tarnished. I hope it doesn't get to that. I dislike labels, and that in itself is a whole other discussion, but if had to be called one or the other, I guess I'd be a "gusher" right now, and it's very sad and very troublesome just thinking about "bashers" feeling they've been pushed out. I've got some ideas to work that problem out, but as I said, until I've read everything that's already been written, I'll simply keep reading and keep quiet. But things will be said eventually. Peace to you all. More later.

I have a great admiration for George. These films are very well-intentioned. All right, they make tremendous amounts of money and appeal to kids, but they say good things, and they say them in a broad way. I believe in the Star Wars films.

Counclusions? Well, here's mine:
The Basher Sanctuary was closed, based on some nearly-nonsensical reasoning. A Focus Group was created to sort out the problems leading to, and generated (or brought to surface) by this decision.

A group of users was deeply offended by this move, and left the site, yet Sape and Strilo seem to be unwilling to even consider, that it might have been a bad decision. (Note, I'm not talking of reopening the Sanctuary, just merely admitting, that closing it might have been a mistake).

We all agreed (except maybe Patrick, he was way to angry, and noone can blame him for it), that we should get rid of preconceptions and stereotypes.
Considering that in the comms thread most of the accusations against the BS were no more than stereotypes, and the "basher persecution" is supposedly also a preconception (or misperception, whatever), this sounded like a great idea. But then, after some distantly hopeful start, Rhonda and Patrick succesfully confirmed each other's preconceptions, and disappeared. And kudos to Rhonda for at least trying, RebelScum didn't even bother that much.

The administration seems to propose constructivity and productivity, but so far the only discussion that proved somewhat productive, is the "special constructive criticism" thread, but even that admittedly isn't a solution.

Then G-Fett asks for conclusions.

So my conclusion: this FG was practically useless so far, and all of this speaks volumes of the benevolence of the administration, and managed to "reinforce" those "barriers" we were supposed to break down. And you can be sure, that the guys over there, in the new BS will jump to lot worse conclusions than me.

What about working on this stuff some more, so that we can come to a different conclusion?

EDIT: sorry G-FETT, i got you wrong, just read the end of the previous page
But the rest still stands.

LOL! Well, we still have a couple of weeks to try and reach some solid conclussions to move forward. However, its my understanding that this FG was never going to end up reopening the BS. The BS is closed and this FG was never about reinstating it.
