Yeah, I only bring up the "newbie" thing when I see a moron as a new user.

I also agree there's some creepy stuff going on in the picture thread more often than not. Seriously, I cringe at the implied emotional issues some of these people must have. I don't know what better way to put it. Being TeamCreepy'd ( ) doesn't seem to do anything to get them to edit their behavior. It's become a very strange, unhealthy outlet for a few users.

If you want a simple answer about why I don't post in the JCC, it's just that it's hard to be active everywhere. The forum's a big place. The Senate's closer to my personal tempo. I like the Ampitheater too, but read it more often than I post. To be a good participant in a forum, you have to have the time to figure out what's going on, and why. Every community has its own style. I like the JCC's chaos, but it's imposing if you're thinking about jumping in from scratch.

That's actually really important to know . . . I've been concerned about how difficult it can be for a user to "break into" the JCC as well. Some of the same things that make the place fun and community-like also tend to baffle users who aren't longtime regulars. And if we aren't getting new people, then the only force at work in the forum is attrition. The forum shrinks, there are fewer threads to space out the "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Science!" threads, we have to put the safety helmet on Pulsies before she bashes her head against the wall, etc.
Something else to consider for more in-depth discussion later.

Heh, it's interesting reading a post like this. When I regularly starting posting in YJCC, back in late 2001, I didn't really feel intimidated by it. I just jumped in to whatever threads appealed to be and off I went. Comparing the JCC today to back then I can definitely see how it could be difficult to get into it. There's a huge number of established threads and you really don't know where to start. But hey, every year we get a batch of new users that stand out and people recognize so it's not impossible.

Personally, I don't see why it's such a "daunting" issue for people to jump into the flow of the JCC. Sure it's chaotic, but more like a controlled chaos, if you think about it. There have always been cliques, there will always be issues of people pushing the limits of taste, whether it being by harrassement (obviously this always has to be addressed/fixed when people do get harrassed, but why is it coming up now? This hasn't been a priority?), or general posting style and it seems to me that people who do have issues with trying to "fit in" (as if that should be a barometer anyway, case in point, look at me: Who haven't I annoyed, pissed off, or don't "fit" in a particular mode of thinking or posting (save for the Sarcasm Knights, but even with them, it's not I don't make my annoyances public) style?

The red seemed to piss alot of people off, and it's going to be "shocking" to people when this period of blue posting for me ends (it's not my intention to keep this as a permanent thing, and it seems to me that more people are glad I've done it, whereas I really did enjoy being the user who also posted in red).

I wondered why you'd switched to baby blue. Now I know it's for the shock value upon your return to red at a time when it will make you seem most angry

It's very simple: I'm doing this in honor/for pride in the fact that this upcoming baseball season will be 50th for the Dodgers here in La La Land, and it will also mark 20 years since the the last title for the club.

No, Tunick, it's just annoying because it's harder to read than black. And I continue to be offended by your abuse of spaces.
I think a lot of JCCers started off in other JC board and coming to the JCC wasn't some kind of dramatic shift. If you're new and go there, it's understandably more intimidating and I don't know that there's anything you can do about that.
As far as not being welcoming, the only times I can think of new users complaining is when they've made a bad impression and received flack for it. That's just how that works. We tend not to notice the ones that fit in as much. So I don't think there's a problem there.

Exactly. If one understands how the M.O. is in the JCC, then there's no issue. Those who don't will always have problems with the system, and not always just with the newbies either.

3 aspects of the JCC that you believe are good
1. There's a wide range of different things so there's usually something of interest.
2. Making new friends is fairly easy to do. I've met quite a few people from the boards, and I had a lot of fun doing it too.
3. The post-a-picture thread, it's nice to put names to faces.
3 aspects you personally don't like about it
1. There seem to be quite a few threads that don't make any kind of sense, usually it's some quote from some film with a picture or it's a really obscure reference to something equally obscure.
2. Stupid arguments in tragic threads, like the VT shooting, instead of being a thread to update on what's going on and offer support/condolences it turned into petty bickering.
3. The way that certain days get special banners and icons, like Saint Valentine's Day, Saint Patrick's day, Talk Like A Pirate Day and Easter, but other days don't when they're considered to be very important by some.
3 things that just drive you batcrap crazy
1. I'll echo what Darrkwolff and SoloJones said about intolerance towards Christianity and intolerance in general. I disagree with a lot of people about a lot of things but at least I either say nothing or say it in a nice way, some people are just rude.
2. People being idiots for the sake of being an idiot, like posting 'lol' and nothing else or turning serious threads into joke threads when they have no interest in the topic.
