So we all know them, these pics:
Yet, there are still people, who are taking discussions here (on the JCC) too serious. (Or take themselves/their e-personage too serious)
Users who crave for the e-attention (this has been brought up in an other discussion) are also part of this I think.
Users who turn a simple discussion about a random topic into a flamefest instead of having a discussion among friends (which is a community all about).
Some examples where the light-hearted nature of the JCC might be in danger.
How should we handle this? Should we just ignore it as long as it remains within the limits of the TOS? or should we start PM-ing these people some of the above posted pics?

Yeah. I'll reiterate what I said earlier in the other thread:
Souderwan posted: Honestly, I think you just need to *****-slap those few posters once or twice--publicly. Those guys tend to feel entirely too much self-importance (I'm guilty of this sometimes myself, honestly) and a public smackdown to remind them that they are no different than other users would do them (and the rest of the community) a lot of good. I'm not talking about banning, necessarily. Just a "Dude. It's the internet. If you can't play nice, go outside and meet some people and work on those social skills you seem to be lacking. Otherwise, I'm gonna take away your ball."
This topic is a bit broader, I think, which relates to people getting up-in-arms about...pretty much everything. Same principle applies, though.

If it stays within within the area of, and doesn't break TOS, than no, I don't think you should be "cracking down" on these users. To be honest, there's probably been way less flaming the last six months than any other amount of time in the almost 4 years that I've been posting there.
As far as the people that take discussions waaay to seriously, as long as they're not breaking the rules, I don't see why you should have to get involved in a disciplinary fashion. They're only making themselves out to look like asses, which when you think about it pretty much decides the way they're looked at by the community.

I think we're only talking about people who are violating the TOS with flames and baits, but sometimes get away with it, Juliana. I don't think we're talking about everyday posts that are just joking around and the like. I could be wrong.

Flames and baits aren't the only "serious business" issue I see. There are many people who look at this place as an extended family... a part of their life, which is fine... it's good to care about the community and all, but sheesh.
Here's a link to the personality type I'm describing...
http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/fragilefemme.htm
I've met some wonderful people here who have become awesome pretty much real life friends. I love this place, but at the same time, I do have a disconnect switch. There's a point a person comes to when they should be able to step back and say, "okay, this is a box on my desk..."
So while I don't think disciplinary action should be taken for this, maybe some "big brother / sister" modding.. you know, a PM to say, "You doing okay? I see you're getting really aggitated, and really... this isn't life or death.. we're not saving the children here, perhaps you need a little break?" Just a friendly touching of base.. that may help.

I agree with this for the most part, but at the same time, I don't think the mods should be offering to be e-therapists or anything for these types. Perhaps a gentle but firm reminder that it's "just the internet" instead of a more friendly big sister type PM would be more effective.

I think it depends on what the topic is. Some things on the internet do need to be taken seriously, treating everything as a joke and saying 'it's OK, it's only the internet' doesn't always work. Making the distinction between what's serious and what's 'too serious' is probably what's important.

Actually, the real life thing is sometimes the thing that causes the problems here.
I know when my dad died, things went pretty crazy, and this place was my escape.
And with that escape, my emotions were on overdrive.
So during that time, I may have been over the top with some things.
A good example is Tunic this last week. He got burnt out, and started acting a bit loopy (not really by choice). Some of the things he did would seem out of control and that he was intentionally trying to get people riled up, when, knowing now what he is telling us, is farthest from the truth.

Personally, I think this is a tough issue. Who's to say what is serious and what isn't? If a topic affects you personally, you're going to take it with a bit of seriousness.
Like ASG said, if they aren't breaking the TOS, leave them be.

This is really hard to discuss without concrete examples or hypotheticals. I agree with Juli as well, but there are some situations, like the one harpuah described, where I think someone stepping in to send a PM is probably warranted and welcomed by the person involved. It's very case-by-case.
