I think it could be acapella or accompanied, so long as we can definitely hear your voice most (like if the bg music is quieter and mostly for your benefit).
As far as musical choices, oh I wouldn't worry... personally, I haven't listened to the radio since about 1998 I don't know many current singers anyway. I was thinking more along the lines of the categories you mentioned, which is also what the show does. They just also sometimes throw in a specific singer, but those are often more "classic" pop stars. I can't say what the judges would each pick for their weeks, but personally for instance I might pick Bobby Darin as my week, and that's far from the top 100

I think it would be fun to make them yodel.
This sounds awesome, and I'm totally excited for it.. The "try out" rounds are going to be most interesting, you know this right?
I'm hoping there will be a good turn out.. perhaps starting threads on other boards (Amph particularly, and others as well), would be a wise idea.
Also, what's the prize? It would have to be something big, like a month long vip ship... and Rachel's phone number. Seriously though, if they're going to be in this for weeks, and creating sould files / videos, the prize should be fairly hefty... guess we need some mod input for this one.

Grant had approved a week VPship fro the winner and less for the runner up... I kind of agree with you harps that it should be a bit longer, but I guess it's up to the mods.
I also agree about cross board promotion. Maybe we should just call it JC idol instead of JCC Idol?

Agreed. Should be JC Idol. Also, I think we need to hear from the mods on how long they're willing to let the game run for as a maximum. If we have 5 contestants, that's 5 weeks. 10 contestants, 10 wks, and so on. In any case, I'm thinking the winner is going to invest at least a month to this game, so maybe 2 wks VIPship for the hard work (commensurate with BB).

Why would it be necessary to grant VIPship (for 2 weeks anyway) for the winner of this game? Title & colors wouldn't be enough?

A vip-ship is title and colors, you weenus..
Also, after some discussion, Brian and I agree that he would make a much much better Paula Abdul, and I would make a much better Simon... I know that I'm a female, Brian is Black, and Everton is British... but we don't really need to be typecast, do we?

Well, to be fair, I think I'll be a wonderful Randy. I'm an actor. I can play the role given me. That said, Harps is quite naturally a Simon.

True, but so is Everton. And part of the fun is to make fun of these people (hey, I'm Ryan Seacrest ). I think harps will also be extremely good at making fun of crazy Paula
I think a week of colours is fine... I mean, Sleepy games often last like 3 months and go for hundreds of pages and that's what they get. I think that's fair...
Plus, people get to know that they can sing.
I would guess this will go 8-10 weeks, but it could be more or less... I've no idea how many people will participate, but in the event that many do, we will whittle it down to a set number for a reasonable number of weeks.

Do you mean Hollywood squares?
Hollywood squares would be a variation on Tic-Tac-Toe, but yes. In Hollywood squares, you had celebrities answering the questions and the player had to agree/disagree. While that could be a lot of fun, I think it'd be a nightmare logistically and would never be a spur-of-the-moment thing. On the other hand, just having a board with questions behind the x's and o's that users had to answer to get an x or an o would be quick and easy to set up--only need two players and the host to get the game going.
Ok, so I read Brian's Tic-Tac-Toe idea in the other thread and immediately thought of Hollywood Squares, and wrote up a whole proposal for JCC Squares before coming in and reading this thread. (I was gone all weekend.) So here is my idea:
JCC Squares
This would play just like a game of Hollywood Squares. Sign-ups would include nine spaces for the Celebrity Guest Panel and two contestants. We could possibly have nominations for people to be on the guest panel, as it might be easier to get people to sign up to be contestants. Each celebrity guest would be assigned a square, and there would be fun visual aids of the squares with each person's icon or something, so the contestants will know which guest is which square. (If the guest has no icon they can choose a photo or image they want to represent them.)
The host would then have the first contestant choose a square, and the host would ask that person a trivia question, they will have x amount of time to answer, and the contestant would then decide if they agree or disagree with that answer. Just like Hollywood Squares, if they agree and the answer given was correct, or if they disagree and the answer was wrong, that contestant gets the square. If they agree and the answer was incorrect, or they disagree and the answer was right, they do not get the square. Simple enough.
The only problems I can think of with this idea are those of timing. It would be more fun if neither the guest panel nor the contestants use Google to find their answers, but try to answer out of their own heads like they do in the TV game. I'm not sure how we could prevent anyone from using Google, however. It would be best if this game could be done in real time, with all the players online at the same time. Perhaps the host could pick a one-hour timeslot where everyone would agree to be online every day for a week (or however long it might take to play one round) and include that time in the sign-ups so that people would only commit to playing the game if they know they can be online for at least that hour every day. Otherwise there would be so much lag time while waiting for the guest to sign on and answer the question, the contestant would have plenty of time to Google it.
Anyway, it's a possibility. And the host could pick a different timeslot for each round (or have a different host who is online at a different time) so that people would have a chance to sign up for the round with a timeslot that would be most convenient for them. What do we think?

Personally, I support JCC Squares (lol @ double meaning!). I'll even support by being one of the people who answers questions. I'm sure there are at least 8 more people willing to volunteer.
