But it's based on singing talents, not on popularity. You know, if you're concerned about it enhancing the popularity thing, maybe we could have everyone post their songs with socks for anonymity. But honestly I don't think it's that big of a deal. I hope people will just vote for who they think does the best job... you can't really help people voting for friends, though. But it's not any different in that respect than, say, BB. And anyone can participate, from the newest users to the oldest. You don't have to participate at all if you don't want to

Armen, as long as I've been here (admittedly not that long), there's been talk of new games. There are always tons of games that are suggested and about 2 come out of those suggestions. The games usually have a fairly short run, too, but they always have high audience participation. The games that fail are the ones where the host ends up not participating any more. What's my point? That there's a demand for these games and people want to play them. So I don't see the harm in letting them happen. What's more, the JCC is many things and fluff is part of it.
solojones posted: Well the only thing is, Brian, that in a game like JC Idol, theoretically a lot of people are involved as voters (like BB). So it's not just contestants.

True. But JC Idol is gonna be a long-running game (like BB) and I don't think we should aim for it to be "the only game in town" so to speak. Lots of short games to keep the people entertained in between big JC Idol events will be a good thing, imo. I hate the notion of killing off perfectly good games with built-in hosts who are enthusiastic to run them because we're afraid of flooding the JCC with games. Let the market decide which games last and which ones go away. If people are annoyed by the number of games, they'll let the mods know. 'Till then, let people have their fun.

Sour grapes? Seriously, though. I bet Keira would love to have you as a celebrity guest on her JC Squares game.

No, no of course it shouldn't be the only game. But we don't want to burn people out on games and there are already a few going. I was just suggesting it might be nice to stagger them a little bit over the next few months.

RE: Temporary game thread

No, I hear you, Rachel. I guess I'm just not seeing all the games that are going right now. We've got CHRIS' game and....? There was the Mod vs Mob game but that petered out, I think. There was Ban or No Ban--also petered out (and that was a short-term game). These things are natural given the cycle of people's personal time to devote to games.
If we ran with all the games that have been suggested to date in this thread, we'd have 3 games going--The Draft Game, JC Idol, and now JC Squares. Add in CHRIS' Match Game and you've got 4.
Draft Game will be kind of secluded because you'd really have to be a part of it to follow what's going on. JC Idol will ostensibly have a large audience but it will be spread out over a long time and so people are naturally going to have time to participate/watch/etc while playing other games. CHRIS' game seems to have a few solid regulars and then people like me who pop in and out, but that game wouldn't effect any of the other games. I think the JC Squares game would be more or less the same as CHRIS'.
My concern is that every time we come up with ideas for games, someone starts popping holes in the bottom of the JC Forceboat. It's never mean-spirited, but it's always stuff like "we don't need more games" or "aren't there enough people in red?" or "that game will be dumb" or...you get the idea. I suspect that people genuinely mean well but they're always making assumptions about how other people are going to react based on viewing things through their own personal lenses. I don't doubt that there will be one or two vocal JCers who will bitch about the number of games that are being played--those people would complain if that number was 2! I just think that the community at large would benefit from having a variety of games to choose from so that those quiet people that no one ever hears from can join the game that they personally like regardless of what else is going on. That's all I'm saying.

Brian:
A) I would challenge the "demand" for games. How many users out there really have the urge for it?
B) It wouldn't be the only sour grape I would have about the JC.

A) The only evidence I have for the "demand" is the response to new games, which is almost always overwhelmingly positive. As I pointed out, new games almost always end up petering out because the host can't devote the time to the game that the players are devoting. When it comes to games, If you build it, they will come.
B) lol! Want some cheese with that whine?

Nah, with my luck, it will be decided that would be against the JC's best interests to give me even a little bit of cheese.

Well a lot of people here seemed enthused by the idea of a JC Idol game when I brought it up, so I assumed in the wider JC it might be the same.

Is it really going to suprise anybody, though (once this fourm goes public), that I'm (so far anyway) the only one opposed to this idea?

I certainly would! And I'm definitely open to suggestions that anyone might have on how I could improve on my idea. I've never hosted a game before, and I'm ok with experimenting and failing, but I do want it to work out if I do go ahead with it, so I'd like some input on whether or not it is even feasible. So those of you who are still around and posting, please share your thoughts! Thanks.

JediANGELA posted: Is my scavenger hunt idea a go or no go? I'm probably going to be on limited internet for the next few days (construction going on here, not sure if its going to affect phone or not, probably not, but its better to be safe than sorry).
Im okay with giving it a go, drop me a PM when you're ready for it.
We'll see how the first round goes and tweak it afterwards if needed.
As for the games in general, most of them have a limited lifetime. The get off to a good start but people here tend to get bored with them after a while. Then it's time to consider moving it to other forums (i.e. mafia in C&G, million colors game as traveling game. etc). But despite that, I think many of the JCC-ers love them. Look at the response the ban/no ban game got for example, even from non-participants.
