I think a very interesting point yet to be made is that if this FG is indicative of the JCC and Senate populace of large, then we can see something already just in this thread. A handful of the same Senate posters are posting regularly and more-or-less with lengthy posts, while the JCC users are chiming in less regularly, more randomly and with shorter posts. So is it the forums that are different, or just the userbases?

I do believe I predicted that's what was likely to happen.

if we're going by this particular thread i would disgaree, given that VoijaRisa, Captain_Typho and myself are all representing the JCC.

however overall, not just pertaining to this FG, i agree with Boogie's sentiment -- the userbases are distinct... so why should we be trying to fit triangles into square holes?

This is indicative of what I suggested in the Comms thread a while back - the Senate population is self-selecting. The Senate regs are generally are people with the predisposition to that kind of argumentation.

While I'm technically representing the JCC, the majority of my posts are in the Senate. Additionally, looking at my posts in the JCC, they're frequently in the serious threads and have a very distinct senate-ish length to them.

Well epic, I'd ask at what point we were trying to fit triangles into squares, precisely?

To use an awkward analogy, for which I apologise for; it you superimpose a triangle over a square, they're patently a different shape with some form of overlap. We're dealing with the overlap rather than the entirety.

I've been lurking and reading more than posting. Bad me. tongue

I have to agree. Very rarely in the threads in the JCC where I had a post over one paragraph.

wait, i meant squares into triangles?

my argument is simply that we should not be forcing jccers to post in the senate, they should be left the opportunity to go there by their own choice. that's it, really.

Isn't that what we're agreeing upon already?

not if a JCC thread is closed, re-directed, and no one follows. that's forcing them to follow when they were happy discussing something in the jcc already.

BUT - didn't KW have an idea that we'd offer the option of a redirect to the Senate, as in; "You may want to continue this discussion here?"

Certainly, we concluded that forcing people to do stuff won't work, but if we keep encouraging it as a means of letting a train of thought flourish that might otherwise get snuffed out in YJCC it might actually benefit both forums.

Something else to consider is that an in-depth discussion/debate or lengthy exchange between two or three members within a JCC thread can effectively monopolize the thread. I think it's fine on a limited basis, but if it goes on for awhile (say... more than half a page, or thereabouts), it can turn a fluid thread into something that doesn't really seem like a JCC thread.
