Ah.
Thanks for the details.
I'm sure it will be up for discussion at the game this afternoon.
Now I won't be staring cluelessly.

The RIAA was very successful. They're mentioned in a Weird Al song!

Well, got home from vacation. Have several notes and gripes, but no complaints whatsoever about the scenery.
Anyone ever been to Arches National Park in Utah? There's one area that I swear must have been the inspiration for both the Pod Race scenery and Geonosis. Even without that tie in, I highly recommend it. Also saw 4-corners or 4-points, or whatever you call it--place where 4 states meet. Will have to post pictures at some point. Taos and Santa Fe, NM. Monument Rock National Park, Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, CO. Much fun along the way. 10 days away. Had a great time.

Now I'm back and ready to catch up and cause more trouble.

Glad you had a great vacation. I have been to the 4 corners before. Ya know, all holding hands standing in different states, etc. Garden of the Gods is fun, too. Did you hit 7 Falls?

That was planned, but we got out of Cave of the Winds and dinner at 8:30, and everyone was tired after 10 days. Rain didn't help.

Most of my photos are of a teddy bear at different landmarks. (long story) Other people thought the bear sitting at the intersection was cute, so he has total strangers with his picture now.
Not sure if they've corrected the site or not, but remembered reading that the old location was off by some distance/amount. I figure, Eh, who cares. It's the idea, not the geography. Besides, all the signs, maps, and directions are nicely established.

Good to see you back, Koo. Glad you had a great time. I'm hoping to go on a nice little vacation at the end of the summer. Probably be to BC and washington state.

Couple of notes about recent travels:

Leave your dogs at home. Seriously. I don't care if they're your erzatz children. Everyone will be much happier (especially the dogs) if you let them stay somewhere familiar than if you drag them around to national parks and monuments. What, you want everyone wondering if you're one of those irresponsible people that allows their dogs to mark the monuments, or have to leave them locked up in the car/truck while you spend a couple hours hiking around? It isn't fun for anyone. How about you have someone come over to your house while you're away (like a friend or relative or pet-sitting service?) walk the dog(s), play with them, and such while you're away? Doesn't that seem like a better way to ensure your pet's/pets' happiness?

One teenager was proudly carving her name into Arches National Park. She saw absolutely nothing wrong with what she was doing and was showing it to her uncle. When I called her on it by politely pointing to the signs about Vandalism being a $10,000 fine she got sulky, and her uncle tried to defend her, saying that it was only sandstone, and the next rain would wash it away. Talk about not getting the point. What, you think your teenage brat's little ego is worth hastening the destruction of a natural wonder? Even if only by a few seconds? I was half-tempted to find a park ranger and turn them in at that point. I settled for poring a little water onto the juvenile defiler's work and scuffing it with my shoe.

Why is it that so many kids are not taught respect these days? I know I sound like a crotchety old person in a rocking chair with a crochet rug on my knees when I say this, but I see it true more and more often.

Particularly those kids who don't know the meaning of the word "No".

The "Youth of today" discussion?

Media...

I don't know how it is elsewhere in the world, but in the UK EVERYONE knows just what they can and can't get away with. Up until, I don't know... early teens I guess, discipline is easily managed, most boundaries tested in the home can be resolved easily enough. But because a lot of kids know what they can and can't do and what others can and can't do to them, they aren't just testing the boundaries to see how far they go, they KNOW the boundaries and push them to the limit.

I won't go too far in as I could go on for days, I'm only 25 but this makes me feel triple that!

Yes, there was another child while waiting for a tour that was told not to do something several times. Like any 7-yo, he skated the edge of the rules just to see what would happen. Both parents decended on him immediately. Problem solved quickly and painlessly, without an unpleasant scene or temper tantrum.

I think the big problem is that the undisciplined make more noise, and attract more attention, and make the problem(s) seem far worse than they actually are. Or maybe that's just a touch of optimism clouding my otherwise cynical vision.

One of my friends has got me into 4th Ed D&D. He's a DM but hasn't played the system, which makes it a bit ironic as I probably get it better than him as it's very, very similar to Star Wars Saga.
