I think that build might be fun to play or try to make work, but I think it's ultimately too fragile.

I'm not a big fan of Jaina or Jacen in general - their low HP and defense make them quick kills and putting them on the RTC might make them quicker kills. I like the triple/twin idea with Mara, for sure, though. Big trouble with this squad up against a Boba BH/Aurra squad.

Also, pardon my ignorance, but would you be allowed to have RTC's as Garm's reinforcements? I assumed that whatever the army was dictated what reinforcements he could bring in and since the army is technically a NR squad, doesn't that limit him to NR troopers and commanders?

I came up with this one tonight, thought it might be fun. Definitely not tournament worthy, but fast and furious - I'm trying it out tomorrow:

Han in Stormtrooper
Prince Xizor
Maris Brood
Mara Jade, Jedi
Jaina
Whatever else you want to use for filler/activation control

Xizor gives Han Accurate Furious Assault, allowing him to hit everything he can see and everyone else gets charging attack and most of them have twin attacks to use with it. There are a lot of wasted points on Xizor and I'd much rather not waste the points on Jaina and swap her and Mara out for Boba BH, but I like trying to make NR work. I know, lost cause. I could dump the Xizor and add something FAR more valuable, but I really want to try out the Accurate Furious Assault.

Not really. The fact that it only has a 25% chance of working and you lose a turn attempting it and it effects such a small group of minis make it an entirely useless ability. It may be used from time to time in a sealed tourney or in a for-fun home game, but if you're playing in a tourney setting no one really uses the figures that Luke could bust up with that skill (or they shouldn't be). There are occasionally exceptions to this, but frankly, I'd rather use about 20 other figures to take down any huge fig out there before I'd even consider wasting the points on Luke, Hoth Pilot.

You can bring in any mix of Rebels or NR with Garm regardless of the faction he's in at the time. Try him with Rebel Troopers and bring in a NRC with his reinforcements, fun wink

Actually I was thinking about nixing the Mara/Gonk RTC rather than the Jacen/Leia one. I don't have a problem with the twin's HP, if played right they last a little longer that you'd think, at least for me. Boba/Aura is always a worry for any squad. But I don't think this one is in any more danger of them than any other really with a lot of uniques. Accurate shooters are why I was considering nixing the Gonk though. Hopefully I'll play test it today or this weekend.

The squad you describe is called "Crazy Running *****es with Lightsabers" or CRBWL. Not a bad build at all and rather fun to play. Watch out for disrupt and Force Sense though, that'll shut you down quickly. Toss in some more people with Stealth or grenades to make Xizor worth his cost. He's not a bad shooter by himself, and if you get within six of people they might be able to attack you at all. Maris Brood is actually who I'd toss out of the squad. She's rather overcosted, IMO, and has next to no defensive abilities IIRC.

NR isn't a lost cause, you just have to play it right. With Mara, that Han, and Garm, you have a lot more options. The new set has a LOT of NR figs coming as well happy

I did not know that - as I said, I assumed he was entirely limited to whichever army he was a part of... that opens up some possibilities.

Let me know how it works out for you. I agree that anyone with accurate shot can take down that Gonk right quick, so good call on dumping that. As I haven't much experience with NR squads (I like mostly Imperial or Republic for tourneys), any advice on how to play the twins would be welcome.

I can definitely see what you mean about Brood - I haven't played her yet (just bought heavily into the set last weekend) but she reminds me a lot of Komari Vosa, a wholly useless piece. Fortunately I don't know many people who run disrupt (though I'm planning to start myself if I can find a build I like with it) or force sense. I did consider moving it away from the NR type squad it is and putting in some Rebel Commandos. It is hard to have Xizor in there sucking up ALL that cost... Like I said, though, I'd never run it in a tourney.

I'd love to make NR work for me. And I like those figs you mentioned above, but including Han in that means including Jaina and I know you disagree wtih me on this, but to me that's 25 wasted points. Again, any advice on playing NR would be welcome as it seems you've a lot more experience with it than I do.

And yes, the next set looks AWESOME for the NR. Can't wait to see some of the stats on those figs, though I do wish they'd update the Jaina/Jacen (not as Caedus) figs. I love the characters, I just don't like their minis as they are. Also, an Anakin Solo would be nice.

Correction: allowing him to ATTACK everything he can see. With an 8 attack, he's best used for his CE. It's a fun theory, but his low attack really makes it difficult to be very effective. Heck, he needs an 8 to even hit an ugnaught in cover.

No worries. Hothie and I are on the Wizards SWM forums (both general and rules) entirely too much, that's how we know about stuff like that.

I'm a Rebel/NR player over all. The Republic, while they have some really interesting pieces, never really did it for me and I'm too much of a Good Guy person to get into the Imps.

Brood is a lot better than Vosa, but still not great. Rebel Commando and Xizor are a brutal mix, I'd put more of the Strike Leaders in there though, they do 20 Damage opposed to 10 and have more HP. Both will get accurate with Xizor too.

I'd love updated Jacen/Jainas too. And a fracking Anakin Solo, many people have been clamoring for him for ever and still nothing.

Here's my Shoebox account with a couple of my NR squads. The Double Attacking with Garm should work pretty well. If you team him and the new Fett up, it can be a nice combo.

That is absolutely correct. This is the first time I played heavily with him tonight, tried a few other builds with him, and he is definitely only worth the CE. That 8 attack is worthless. But he did work very well in this build:

Luke, Champion
Han, Stormtrooper
Obi-Wan Unleashed
Yoda of Dagobah
Chagrian Merc Commander
Princess Leia
Filler (Ugnaughts)

Luke was absolutely vicious in this one. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was trying to keep the Chagrian close and alive. I only lost Obi-Wan which just made Luke beefier. I've thought about replacing the Ugnaughts with another Chagrian, but I think I'd really miss some of that activation control...

Wow, I absolutely love that Boba Fett with Garm. I'm gonna have to hunt one of those down now for sure. And a Garm.

That shoebox thing is pretty sweet - I think I'm going to have to check it out in more detail. I'm so out of the online loop for this game...

Any good trading sites online?

Wizards forums have some (I go by Lady Hothie on there), for buying Miniature Market has really reasonable prices and they are really nice guys, the guys at SWMGamers are pretty cool, and there's always eBay.

Most of our figs come from our gaming store here in Des Moines, some trades, and some from Miniature Market.

Legacy poster is out:

I'm only interested in Kyle, Nomi, the generic KOTOR templates (smuggler, soldier, scout), and Canderous Ordo. Plus the generic RP ones.

I hope that was sarcasm because I'm a bit Vader/Luke/Han-ed out. Though I don't mind a NR Han and Leia. I think we could handle a few sets without those characters.

Yes, it was sarcasm. Unfortunately, you can't really convey sarcasm through text.
