It is a really expensive hobby, and it gets worse every set. We got off cheaper this year because we bought someone else's collection pretty cheap and traded that in for a case and a half.
Compared to most miniature games, though, this game is actually really cheap. Warhammer, for example, is like around $10 for a single, not rare, unpainted and unassembled figure. Compared even to some card games like Magic, we get off pretty easy. For what we get, even if you don't play the game, I'd say you get your money's worth.
Ain't that the truth. I collect Lord of the Rings miniatures and the Balrog/Cave Troll set was $80, then add the paints and brushes.

Yeah, I know it's not that expensive a hobby compared with a lot of others, but considering I'm unemployed for the time being it's still a little beyond my means.
So any cool new squads with this set?

Yesterday I tried out a new "Crazy running bitches with lightsabers" at 200 points:
Jaina (25)
Stormie Han (25)
Leia, JK (40)
Mara Jade Skywalker (49)
Kyle Katarn (54)
2 Uggies (6)
I know Kyle's a guy, but he has disrupt. I tossed in MJS instead of MJ Jedi because I wanted to try her out, I could easily see using MJ Jedi because she's non melee. Going to run it again today and I'll let you know how it goes.

Pretty much every faction has a good new squad to run.
Old Republic has Nomi with Sever Force, which I did twice yesterday during our 3-way game
Sith have a slew of new Unique bad-asses.
Republic gets the Training Sergeant, which makes Republic Commandos an even bigger force to be reckoned with.
Seps get a beefier Dooku.
Rebels get Dodanna and a crazy good Luke. They also get Bothan Nobles, which will be used heavily, as well as Elite Rebel Commandos.
Empire now has Super Stealth, and some really good non-unique beatsticks.
New Republic has a LOT of good Uniques, as well as the CorSec officer who will see lots of play.
Fringe gets some really good Uniques that can be incorporated into many good squads. Also the Kel Dor bounty Hunter will see lots of play, and I think the Human Scout will as well.
Mandalorians get 2 really good uniques (especially together, wow) and 2 good non-uniques.
The Yuuzhan Vong get some really nasty new pieces with good abilities.
All in all, there really aren't many bad pieces in this set, and all factions got better. I think it evened the playing field a bit more, although the power factions are still the power factions, but they all got a little closer and more competitive.

I picked up a booster of LOTF to see what these minis are like. I don't know how to play the game though but it looks like it could be fun.
Was this a good booster? Here's what I got:
Jagged Fel
Human Scoundrel
Dug Fringer
Kel Dor Bounty Hunter
Yuuzhan Vong Warrior
Corellian Security Officer
Old Republic Scout
The minis look awesome. I only wish they were a little bit bigger. I think I'm gonna try and put the set together. Cost me $16 for the booster at my local comic shop.

Those are all quite good. The Kel Dor is pure evil. I love the Cor Sec officer. Fel is cool but not super playable yet. The Dug and Scoundrel aren't bad either.

Yeah I haven't met a pilot squad that I really liked. What are pilots supposed to be used for? Exclusively for their grenades ability or what? I mean it's not like Battlefield where pilots get some kind of anti-armor weapon.

I think Jag could be good with Cloud Car Pilots, Imperial Pilots and Thrawn/Mas. Antares Draco also has the pilot special ability, so I think he could be fun in that setting.
Not sure yet how I would use him in the NR. Maybe with Could car pilots and a CorSec officer.

Yeah, I don't think there's going to be any Synergy for the Pilot thing until the next set or two. Cloud Car Pilots are decent, but not good enough to be the basis of a squad.

The Shistavanen Pilot isn't too bad, less damage than the Cloud Cars but more HP and double. With the Cor Sec officer they get "It's a Trap" and deceptive. You could also bring in Rebel Pilots with Garm if you wanted.

I picked up my first -and so far only- legacy booster today, and BAM Darth Kryat. That happened with the unleashed set too. First booster, Vader's Apprentice. Gotta like it when that happens.

Nice, congrats! Apparently the hard to find this set is Caedus. He's going for around $40-50 on a lot of sites. Luckily my LGS sold me mine for like $15 (granted that was before he got quite as high as he is now). Got my Cade yesterday, thanks Bishop!!

Well, in that case, I'm glad I got a caedus in one of my cases. I thought that Cade was the hard pull, since in the entire city of Tucson, there's only one that I know of, and I know of most players in Tucson.

I've seen several pulled in Des Moines, but to be fair I occasionally work at a gaming store and get to open cases for the owner (which is where I've seen them all pulled). Working for your local plastic pimp can have its advantages
