How do I pronounce Assajj.I thought it could be ah-saeeh,or something like that,I mean the "j" like a an "e" like in Mjolnir.Hope you understand me!
And I´ve got the same doubt about the surname "C´Baoth".In Spanish is quite hard to imagin how could it be.

I always thought it rhymed with "Massage", as in shiatzu.
In my mind, the other name was "Jyour-us K-both"
I'm not the expert on pronunciation though, especially where prequel EU is concerned.

I always thought it rhymed with "massage" also. As far as our favorite demented Jedi Master, it's officially "joar-OOSE Su-BAY-oth"

Why does Tim Zahn like to punish our mouths? Did anyone else's head explode trying to pronounce Bpfassh?

I've seen worse.
R.A. Salvatore used an alternate (probablly Welsh) spelling of Gveniver that I was mispronouncing "Goo-en Hay why var". And Alan Dean Foster's Nor Crystal Tears has planets that defy any attemps--they were named by a race of evolved Mantis.
Some people go out of their way to torture consonants. Having studied German, Danish, and Japanese pronunciation, I have a slightly easier time with tongue twisters.
I still get a laugh from naming characters after dishes at the local Indian Curry restraunt. It's even better (or worse) when one of the players finally realizes where the name came from.
Better a weird word than a horrible, tortuous Kevin J. Anderson story. Sadly, he is not the worst of the SW author pool. Neither is Troy Denning (though both are near the bottom of the pit). Still, that's more of a discussion of the litterary boards than the RPGs (unless you want to go into the sourcebook information).

I always said it Uh-Saw-j and Jor-us Sub-owth (rhyming with 'mouth'), just as Anthony Daniels pronounced it in the audio book. Sadly, Mr. Zahn hates me, and decided that it was Sab-ae-awth.

Don't get me wrong. I still love Tim Zahn and I'll always be one of the first in line to buy his Star Wars books, but he likes the complicated words, that's for sure.

Well, Heir to the Empire Trilogy was good, as was Spectre of the Past. Unfortunately, for Vision of the Future, as a cap-stone novel, he had to include all the junk written by lesser scribblers. Then again, it did include some wonderful bits...
Mara: "Your niece and nephews have been kidnapped 8 times. When were you going to put some decent security on them?"
Luke: "You're right. I've been stupid."
Haven't read anything since that except for Shatterpoint, which was awful.
Um, ooops, this is starting to drift into litterary commentary... Sourcebooks. Yeah, that's it... We're talking about the sourcebooks.

I dunno... I've certainly seen more complicated names before.
For example, did you know Cthulhlu is pronounced Khlul-hlu, apparantly? So far as the human vocal apparati can form it, anyways.

I've also heard "Cool _ too-who"
Some of Lovecraft's names were a little odd. I believe he was borrowing from celtic spellings and languages for a number of his "dark, secretive" languages.
After one gamer's Squib tech parasite (he actually played the character very well and it was quite memmorable), Ugors arround the galaxy were always (jokingly) offering high bounties for Squib-hide chairs.

i assumed it was 'ah-sadge' or ah-sarge but a softer finish. if your french and said remuage (to do with winemaking), then how you say the 'age' bit is how i say the ajj bit :P

I think Lovecraft was simply trying to give his creations names that'd immediately strike his readers as completely alien. It's actually harder than it sounds. I've tried it myself, and it doesn't seem to work for me.
I always tend to spell the jj of Asajj as zsh, it just seems to work out that way.
