Starship Miniatures Kit-Bashing: New Class-Defender Program-Nebula Class Star Destroyer

Officially the New Class-Defender Program-Nebula Class Star Destroyer is unavailable for Starship Miniatures Game. However I found a way to construct a makeshift representation of this New Galactic Republic / Galactic Alliance ship.

Step 1: Obtain the Imperial Interdictor
Step 2: Obtain two Imperial Shuttles
Step 3: Carefully remove the four gravity well generators from the Imperial Interdictor.
Step 4: Break off the top dorsal wing on the two Imperial Shuttles.
Step 5: Fit the broken edges of the two top dorsal wings together with the proper kind of modeling glue.
Step 6: Apply the dorsal wing assembly to the top of the Imperial Interdictor's command tower.

Hmmm...the link to my NC-DP-NCSD illustration did not work (sigh). Frakkin computers. I wanted to follow up my kit-bashing instructions with a theory about the NC-DP-NCSD and it's cousin the New Class-Defender Program-Endurance Class Fleet Carrier. This theory is a mix of canon info and conjecture. The specific topic of my theory is centered on the question of how many NC-DP-NCSDs and how many NC-DP-ECFCs were available to the Core Worlds at the start of the Vong War era. My theory is that roughly 125 NC-DP-NCSDs and 125 NC-DP-ECFCs existed as of 25ABY. I know at first glance those figures seem too high. After all both the Craken's Threat Dossier and the Starships Of The Galaxy state only a small number of NC-DP-NCSDs were built. However one should keep in mind that at one time the Galactic Empire had 25,000 (or was it 2,500) Star Destroyers. My figure of 125 NC-DP-NCSDs is not even a drop in the bucket compared to that 25,000 (or 2,500). That said let me now explain how I arrived at 125 ships for both the NC-DP-NCSDs and the NC-DP-ECFCs (grand combined total of 250 ships in service to the defense of the New Galactic Republic's Core World region). As stated in official sources the Nebula Class Star Destroyer (and in equal measure the Endurance Class Fleet Carrier - most likely) were initially exclusive to the Fifth Fleet of the New Galactic Republic. As of 11ABY ten NCSDs (and ten ECFCs - most likely) were built and launched. One new NCSD (and one new ECFC - most likely) were to be constructed and launched every year beyond 11ABY (at least until the production order ceased). That means by the start of the Yuzzhan Vong invasion 24-25 complete NCSDs were in use by the Fifth Fleet (also 24-25 complete ECFCs were in use). In my theory the New Galactic Republic's military brass (and other Powers-That-Be) decided to add more NCSDs and ECFCs to the other four fleets. After all the main point of the New Class Act was to standardize the New Republic Defense Force. The excuse for further construction of NCSDs and ECFCs during 'peacetime' was the increasing threat of violent space piracy, the Yeveth Crisis, and 'brushfire discord' (some of these were instigated by YV operative Nom Anor to distract the galactic population's attention).

Both the NCSD and the ECFC performed well during 'peacetime' operations prior to the Vong War. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaders began their march across the galaxy the New Galactic Republic was slow in responding to the threat. The Galactic Senate and President Borsk Fey'la were more concerned over political in-fighting, 'brushfire' events and vigilante Jedi Knights than a danger taking root in the Outer Rim. At most a single Imperial (Imperator) Class Star Destroyer was sent to investigate and respond to the Yuuzhan Vong foothold. That ICSD was destroyed and despite heroic efforts of Jedi Masters and Jedi Knights the Tingel Arm of the galaxy was lost to the extra-galactic foe.
Citizens of the Core Worlds were now fully aware of the situation, but would only become alarmed when the Yuuzhan Vong reached the border between the Expansion Region and the Inner Rim with lighting speed. Demand for more Core World protection reached a fever pitch. In response President Fey'la ordered the emergency construction of more warships. Because of their smaller size, firepower accuracy, and gravimetric agility the NCSDs and ECFCs were perfect for emergency construction. Both public and private shipyards began cranking out more NCSDs and ECFCs. These fresh warships were not put on the front lines. Instead the far more numerous Vicstars, Venstars, Impstars, Interdictors, Mon Cal heavy cruisers, Bothan Assault Carriers/Cruisers, and etc. were given front line duties. The NCSDs and ECFCs were as always stationed in the Core Worlds and Colonies.
When the NCSDs and ECFCs were first conceived certain limitations were built into the ships. The general population of the New Galactic Republic were fearful of their hard-won democracy building Star Destroyers. Emperor Palpatine's regime was very successful in making the Star Destroyer a symbol of oppression. Senator Mon Mothma was the most outspoken in opposing the building of any new Star Destoyer classes. Yet the more pragmatic members of the Galactic Senate and New Republic Defense Force won this debate - through compromise.
Star Destroyers built by the New Galactic Republic would be kept smaller than their Imperial era cousins. Therefore less emotionally intimidating and less costly to the average citizen in taxes. Also any new Star Destroyer classes constructed would have built-in supply/range limitations. By doing this Republic Class Star Destroyers, NCSDs, and ECFCs would be less likely to be used in occupation operations. These warships would be more dependent on the citizens that paid for them.
This compromise was seen as a good measure in preventing a heavily armed dictatorship from evolving in the New Galactic Republic. Then the Vong War erupted. Those technological limitations now became annoying liabilities in the face of an extended conflict. The need for more robust warships became obvious to the brass of the New Republic Defense Force. Decisions were made to amend this situation. However the days of the New Galactic Republic were numbered. With brutal boldness the Yuuzhan Vong attacked the Core Worlds and managed to conquer the Coruscanti star System.
Despite the loss of Coruscant many NCSDs and ECFCs were able to survive the tremendous battle. The survival of these 'pocket' Star Destoyers and 'pocket' fleet carriers was two-fold. The first reason is that both NCSDs and ECFCs have unequaled shield generators. The second reason is that the New Galactic Republic constitution allows for sectorial fleet allocation if the New Galactic Republic should ever become tyrannical or if the capitol world ever falls to enemy hands. In other words individual sectors can pull a predetermined percentage of the New Republic Defense Force to their exclusive aide if the centralized government goes sour.
Meanwhile the designers employed by the former Republic Engineering Corporation are given the green-light to build more robust warships. The main goal now is not the preservation of democracy, but simple survival. The former REC begins work on two new Star Destroyer variants. The Rejuvenator Class Star Destroyer and the Galactic Class Battle Carrier are born. The RJCSD is most likely a modified NCSD. The modifications include a longer supply/range duration and interdiction capabilities. The GCBC is a larger fleet carrier. Istead of carrying only two starfighter squadrons (like the ECFCs) the GCBC carries four starfighter squadrons.
