Yuul listened to the elder closely. He wanted to help these people and he wanted to rescue those taken during the fight. And if he really wouldn't be able to leave as based on how the elder outlined it he might as well do what he could for these people.

"Well then if this is so, may I ask where I might be most needed?"

//seems like we're down to 3 players... Haven't heard from several of them for a while, in spite of PMs...

"Well, we need help with everything. In case you haven't noticed, we're working with tech that most of your fringe worlds would snear at. Some tools and machines could probablly be repaired in short order if we knew how. We have sick and injured. We haven't had any news from outside the atmosphere in 20 years. We need to kick-start our renaisance and recovery before we backslide even further. Resources are being used up all the time. Our hydroponic gardens are keeping us fed, for the most part, but we're running low on nutrients. There's been talk of some rather unpleasant solutions to that shortage. While not outright barbaric, we'd rather not have to make such decisions."
"We can always use new scouts to find tools and machines, even people, in the old cities."
"Even basic contributions to our population, both now and in future, would be very helpful for staving off genetic short-comings."
"We do have rules, however, and some, like your young red-haired friend there, feel they can't live by them. They don't realize that with the fall of the old ways, compromises to personal freedoms have to be met in order to stave off extinction."

"Forget it, oldster," pipes in the scruffy creature who joined Arias and Yuul in watching the Barge fight. "I an't gonna be gettin... Not with who you chooz just coz you say. Besides, gettin to the overlords an't hard. I been there. I can track these skyfalls there. Maybe rescue their other skyfalls."

"Well, that is up to them, young woman. Whether they stay and join us, or leave is up to them. You, however, can leave again tomorrow if you aren't prepared to live under our rules." He turns back to everyone else. "I'm sorry. She's still in her rebellious years. I can't recommend leaving, but you are within your rights to do so. But please wait until morning at least. The abominations travel freely at night. What can you tell us about the Republic at large. Last we heard, there were some rumblings or division and sedition. What happened in that? Who is Chancellor? It looks like astromechs have made some progress... I'm sorry, but after 20 years, news from the outside is as overwhelming as our need for survival."

Yuul nodded, some of what he was about may shock some of the elders and it may not.

"Very well, the last Chancellor was Palpatine, he was elected after the Queen of Naboo called for a vote of no confidence in the previous one due to lack of action against the Trade Federation. As ten years passed a sessionist movement started and was headed by Count Dooku and by a council of several corperations and their worlds including the Trade Federation, The Techno Union, The Banking Clan, and the Geonosians with their foundries for producing droids as well as many other worlds. They began to call themselves the CIS or Confederacy of Independant Systems and as the Republic continued to stagnate under its mass and corruption more worlds joined the CIS."

Yuul took a moment to pause before continuing, "The tension was building up and was heading to a standoff. It eventually led to war when the CIS captured Senator Padme Amidala. During this time the Senate voted emergency powers to the Chancellor. Out of nowhere the Republic which had had only meager security forces suddenly had a massive clone army which clashed with the CIS's droid armies. The size of the army and how suddenly they had it startled the Seppratists and that began the bloody clone wars. During this period Jedi Generals lead the clone armies into battle. They lasted for several years and close to their end the Chancellor declared the Jedi Order traitors and turned their clone soldiers against them. One of their own betrayed them and became Darth Vader, and the Chancellor, who declared himself Emperor and reformed the Republic into an Empire, sent his servant and a battalion of clones to the Jedi Temple where they killed every last Jedi there including the children, some no more then babes. This happened at the same time as clone armies everywhere turned against their Generals and the jedi were slaughtered save for a few who managed to hide. Or so rumours say but the jedi can't all have been killed I don't think. After this Darth Vader lead an attack on mustafar, eliminating the CIS leaders in one stroke effectively winning the war. And in the Republic's place sat an Empire, where non-humans became third class citizens on many core worlds. The Empire rules through fear and propaganda now."

Yuul looked across, briefly glancing at Azrael for a moment as he said that last sentence.

"There is some talk of resistance in the outer rim but I wouldn't put much trust in it."

The oldster stares at you in shock. The others aren't as affected. "Palpatine? He made it past his first term? I thought for sure he wouldn't be returned. We backed several unpopular laws together. He was one of the few other senators junior enough to give us the time of day. We often worked together, Garvain and he. Why haven't we heard from him? I know for a fact he was aware of our problem when it first started. If he's been in charge of the republic for so long... He wasn't the sort to leave a friend and ally stranded without resources."
"Whaht of the jedi?" asks an elder who up til now has been quiet. "They were of little help to us when their research team arrived, and did nothing after their deaths. Perhaps it's time to open their lab capsule and get whatever supplies whay can from it? They certainly are noht able to object."
"I stell cahn't see Palpatine as supreme ruler, or even imagine how it was possible. And a war... the scale of intergalactic war is just staggering."

"That it is, and as for Palpatine being supreme ruler he is and, although I hope not to offend you by saying this, his rule of fear is not unlike the Overlord's on you from what you have told me."

"But how were the various planetary leaders able to so readily put aside all their differences to unite their military forces so easily? Alderaan and Corellia both have navies famous for their pride and arrogance, as well as their unwillingness to cooperate. It must have taken an incredible leader to get all parties to unite their fleets to coordinate the battle."
"And civilian damage? I may not know much about war, but from the technological standpoint, if they were able to send ships capable of crossing between systems, how were they able to keep civilians from being wiped out by enemy fleets? One battleship could have wiped out a planet? Incidents of such nature should have quickly brought both sides back to negotiate."
"Fear not about offending me. We know our situation is bleak. I find your comparing Palpatine to the Overlord a bit disconcerting though. He was very polite and peacable in the days I knew him."

"Skyaah!" exclaims the red-haired urchin. "All this flapping about lah-dee-dah old days. What for? The Over-bloat has three of their skyfalls. Do you know what he does to skyfalls? I seed it. He's on this big machine arm. He runs them through a cage trap set. The brutes all watch. If the skyfalls are lucky, they die in there. If not, they get taken somewhere private-like with Overbloat. Never seed again. Doncha wanna get them out?"

The elders roll their eyes or smile patiently. "She's young. And has forgotten her place."

"For starters Alderaan is pacifist now. The main military force was that of the clones, both ground and space. There were others though. For the first part by this time Palpatine had those emergency powers. Although the war's strategies were mostly left to the jedi generals."

"Like I said the war was costly and bloody although usually cities under siege had shields. I met him once in passing, although he was still a senator. I was young then but from the small impression I had of him was similiar to yours."

"Skyaah!" exclaims the red-haired urchin. "All this flapping about lah-dee-dah old days. What for? The Over-bloat has three of their skyfalls. Do you know what he does to skyfalls? I seed it. "I will do my best to help your people, however I must first try and save the others." Yuul turns to the redhead, "You say you know the way there?"

"Clones? But it was illegal to clone sentients unless that was the primary means for the species to breed. This is... most peculiar."

"Chyaa. Course I been there. Left these oldsters with a blood-sister. The brutes catched her while we was looking in the old-time buildings. Came back to get our brothers to get her back. Saw what happed when we got in. Brothers didin get out. One made it through the death maze to be taken back by the Overbloat. Other brother and blood-sis didn't get out of the maze. I sneaked back out. Been livin on my own. Don't need the Overbloat, and don' need these sick oldsters."

"Well, whatever you choose to do, I suggest you stay until morning. We would be delighted if you would join us for a meal. After that, we'll be happy to show you whatever areas interest you--hospital, school, hydroponics, animal pens, salvage and repair, creche... We're doing the best we can to recover as much as possible. Sometimes we have to take 5 steps backward to relearn older technology. Is there anything in particular you'd like to see?"

Azrael looks warily about, as if waiting for another unexpected attack from this dismal place. He remains silent however, content to let others talk and take the lead.

Whatever it was that suddenly disturbed Azrael and Yuul seems to have faded away completely.
Escourts arrive to guide you wherever you wish to go. They are young humans--maybe 10 years old, though it's hard to tell. They have hollow eyes you normally see in seasoned combat veterans, and do not speek except to shrug.

The medical area is both a dream and nightmare. Vast open rooms, filled with instruments, brightly lit. On the other hand, an old FX-7 droid is idling in the corner, and there's a big box of tools, some fairly advanced, sitting unused in a cart. Instead of using a tissue rebinder, Yuul sees someone actually sewing up a wound with a coarse thread. Sub-dermal injections are being done by jabbing needles into people and squirting liquids into them. And there is none of the electro-magnetic sterylization of tools. Instead they appear to be dipped into a tray filled with a noxious liquid. Patients are dirty, and the medics aren't much better.
Azrael notices that the red-haired chatty native seems to be staying within 5 meters or so of Yuul, though she seems to orbit arround to avoid some of the other locals.

The salvage and repair yards are actually old subterrainian vehicle rest areas filled with all manner of tools. On large area has been set up as a metal forge. There are about half a dozen men working with heavy tools and hammers to shape molten metal into different items. Piles of parts are sorted out by content into different materials. It's like an Ugor reclamation ship done larger, with Jawas interferring slightly, for children are scampering through the wreckage without a care. Vir spots an old TC-9 repulsor-speeder that looks almost intact, as well as a JCN-toadie protocol droid with it's head hanging by cables, and what looks like an old Langalantier ore freightor with the engines hanging loose, but a large turret added to the dorsal fore-quarters. There are droids, computers, vehicles, furniture, and random appliances in stacks waiting for sorting or slagging. There are about 20 people on one side, picking up objects at seeming random from bins beside them. Sometimes one of them will smile and wave to the others. Sometimes one will pass the object to the person next to him or her. Most often, the item is pushed forward onto a conveyor belt. Vir can't help but notice that all the sentient beings here are human (it helps to be able to identify your vermin). People look up from their jobs if you are close enough to talk to, but no one initiates a conversation. Some sort of curious local custom? There are certainly plenty of people here to talk to.

OOC: I tried waiting for others to post first but none did.
-------------------------------
Yuul was somewhat horrified by some of the methods they had been using in the med center. Why weren't they using some of the better instruments he had seen there. Had they forgotten how? As they entered the salvage yards, Yuul looked about but his knowledge in mechanics wasn't the best so didn't pay as much attention as he had earlier. Because of this while he was idling he noticed the redhead hanging around him. How long had she been doing it?
