I was going through previous Jedi Counseling issues at WotC and the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook. I understand how Force light works against a Dark Side spirit and a site strong in the dark side. I can also see this as a means of freeing someone who had been possessed by a Dark Side spirit - Force Light destroys the Dark Side spirit, freeing the possessed individual. But things aren't as clear when it comes to characters. For example, suppose Luke Skywalker had ranks in this Force skill. He uses this skill against Palpatine and succeeds. Palpatine loses a Dark Side Point. So what? Is Palpatine weaker now? Would it be harder for Palpatine to call on the dark side?

Now take this scenario: Jedi against Dark Sider. Dark Sider has one DSP. Jedi uses Force Light and succeeds. Dark Sider loses DSP. Dark Sider now has no DSP. What happens now? Is he no longer a Dark Sider?

Since many of the dark side prestige classes require a certain number of DSPs, if you no longer have enough DSPs, you no longer qualify for the prestige class. I believe the Jedi Counselling answer is that you lose any bonus feats ans/or class abilities associated with that prestige class until you re-qualify.

Striking down can result in common side effects including fear, anger, aggresion, nausea, dry mouth, hatred, suffering, headaches, IBS, & in some extreme cases has been linked to lava burns
Please consult your doctor before striking anyone down

GM: You now have less DSP than your prestige class calls for. You can't use your bonus feats and abilities anymore.

Dark Side Player: I zap enemy with Force Lightning till his eyeballs cook inside his skull.

GM: Dark Side Point!!

Thanks for the input, guys.

Now that I think about it, this power might also be useful against the Sith undead of Dromund Kaas and Korriban.

Yeah, that worked. wink

But you can't just do something evil to get a DSP to get back to your prereq's for a prestige class. Common transgression prevents that. Otherwise Palpatine would have a couple Billion DSP and Tarkin would have gotten a buttload for every life on Alderaan. When you're that "dark" you have to do something pretty Hitler-ish to get that DSP back.

I'll fly a starship across the universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain, but I will remain, and I'll be back again...
