RE: Which gaming era was best?
Greetings, blokes.
With absolutely no hesitation, 16-bit era was
the best
years for video gaming. I support the claim that SNES was the best system to ever grace this Earth. Graphics and sound were sweet, and the games were even sweeter.
Plus, in that era, you had
the constant SNES vs. Genesis debates (or arguments or fistfights [depending on who you hung out with]), with both sides always eager to try to outdo the other
EGM (probably the best gaming magazine in that timeframe) was averaging around 100 - 200 pages around that time and was actually still *useful* since the Internet wasn't omnipresent yet
You didn't have to drop down bucks for an extra peripheral to save your game
Unless you were playing that hideous Batman game for the SNES (whose title I forget), there was virtually zero loading time for any game
Around this time, Lucasarts was also releasing some of the best games in existence for the computer... (aka: Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit The Road, Full Throttle, Dark Forces, Monkey Island, etc...)
Those were the days... *reminisces*
Have fun,
Yours Truly
P.S. Random question: but did parts of anyone elses SNES on here turn "urine yellow" at some point? This appears to be a common ailment among many of my college cronies. Curious if anyone else was affected...

For those of us who were born in the "new gaming era", the old school nostalgia and excellence factor of the "old gaming era" is largely lost on us.
I'll have to be honest; I voted for "Right Now".

BEN ERUS...
You are SO TRUE when you mention the Golden Era of the Graphic Adventures. The early 1990s. The Secret of Monkey Island and what's this? A sequel... that's just as good! LeChuck's Revenge! And something else? The Fate of Atlantis -- the best bits of monkey island and you're INDY!! But hang about, there's something else coming out now... Day of the Tentacle?? Another platinum classic! Full Throttle! The Dig!!
Nothing has ever quite replaced these classic adventure games, making it the BEST ERA for me

Although i did vote for right now i'd have to say i enjoyed every era that was on the poll, i grew up on mario, then went to sega, then n64...all era's had their classics.the 64bit era had goldeneye and ocarina of time, perfect dark and all those great thq wrestling games! sega had mortal kombat and snes had everything else! and who can forget the three in one game including duck hunt mario and that track game where you got the running pad, its all great to me!

The thing I always think of is that now, we have what we have now, plus all that came before. Is that not the best of both worlds?

I voted for 64 bit because of the advent of 3D. I grew up on Atari, and did all the Nintendos and so on... but the first time I played Mario 64 was like the first trip to DisneyWorld. A real "wow" factor.

Nothing will ever top the 16-bit era. Fifth grade through eith grade I devoted my life to promoting the Snes over the Genesis. Yes, I was one cool kid back then.

The depth of modern games, along with the grapgical and sound capabilities of computers and consoles nowadays, mean that Today beats the past second to none.
Just imagine a world with no Jedi Outcast and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Just imagine a world without Doom or Quake and you can say bye bye to all those FPS games including Jedi Outcast. The 8 bit and 16 bit era establish most genres we know today.
