IMHO, the graphics are better on the PS3 than the 360.

It depends I guess.

A PS3 connected to my HDTV via an HDMI port doesn't look as nice as my 360 connected via a VGA cable. PS3 games seem to have anti-aliasing issues, and the HDMI picture looks too saturated. The 360 via VGA cable looks clean, smooth and nicer on the eyes.

The PS3 is a nice system, but it has some polishing to do.

I noticed that it also seems to depend alot on what you like mostly. Xbox seems to focus more on First Person Shooters like Halo, etc.

Well of my current 360 collection, I have one first person shooter. I have RPGs, racing games, tactical space sims, fighting games, adventure games. Sure the 360 has some decent first person shooters, but the actual range of other genres is huge.

Skye pointed out this article on kotaku in the Wii thread, which shows that, despite the year head start, the 360 was just eclipsed this week in total sales by the Wii. They cite this as the current breakdown:

Wii: 10.57 Million sold (3.46M Japan, 4.24M America, 2.87M Others)
Xbox 360: 10.51 Million sold (0.43 Japan, 6.75 America, 3.32 Others)
PS3: 4.32 Million sold (1.13M Japan, 1.87 America, 1.32 Others)

It will be interesting to see how things tilt, what with both Wii and 360 releasing some high-profile titles between now and year's end.

Didn't know where else to put this

Manhunt 2 gets 'M' rating, release for Halloween

Looks like the whole Manhunt 2 controversy was toned down enough to release the game, or at least get that 'M' rating (the game companies can still ban it if they wish). Anyway, I'm not surprised at this. I saw one of two scenarios:

Scenario 1.
Anybody else believe that all that happened was Rockstar went to Sony and said "Huh, Manhunt 2 is AO... you know we really needed this game to come out. Oops, we'll just delay GTA IV then. Looks like no holiday sales for you!"

GTA is pretty much one of the ownage franchises. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft could throw their weight around the ESRB if Rockstar withheld GTA IV until Manhunt II was released.

Scenario 2.
Rockstar, being the rebel that they are, release to the ESRB something they KNOW will get AO rating, just to stir up some controversy. They already have the game 'M' ready but they add stuff to make it more AO. It's banned and the whole controversy happens. Publicity stunt anyone? "Let's get our game in the press, those idiots who crave violence will demand we release it, we'll make millions! "

Actually I forsee both scenarios working together. So now everyone gets to play a over the top graphic game that's a sequel to a game that was rather poorly made, simply due to controversial hype.

Yeah, I read this today on another forum I go on. I think that's pretty freakin' impressive. The Wii has become the fastest-selling console of all time and Nintendo is now the leading company in both the console and handheld markets.

Great job by Nintendo returning to relevance from out of nowhere.

This is going to be a weird console generation. The 360 and Wii will likely split the market, and their games will likely have very little crossover (de facto exclusives), due to the vast hardware differences between the two. The PS3 will show that only Sony can defeat Sony.

By this time next year, the Wii should finally be living up to its hype, and pumping out a nice library of games as developers continue to jump onboard. For now, it's a gimmick. Next year, it should become a real platform.

I love the Wii, but as I've seen with all Nintendo consoles, I've been disappointed with some of the games. I played Spider-Man 3 yesterday, and it just doesn't work that well with the motion-sensor technology.

I'm getting the feeling that it's going to be a good "party" console: Mario Party, Super Smash Bros., Paper Mario, etc. As for ports, I don't see it doing that great.

And where are the sports games?? (Other than Madden.) I'd love to play MLB by pitching the ball and hitting homeruns!

Tried Mario Party 8 out a few months ago (four humans, no computer opponents), and we had a good time.

I didn't feel like it was necessarily much better or worse than any of the other Mario Party games I've played, but I *WILL* say that the "Boo Haunted Mansion" level is EXTRA ****ing random.

Just be warned: If you want any semblance of order or skill, avoid that level. It was still fun...but in a what-the-****-is-happening?? sort of way. Which I imagine would wear off on repeated play (we only played that level once).

Sony claims they are not competing with Nintendo or Microsoft

Just had to share a comment someone posted on Kotaku regarding this article...

This is so annoying.

Nintendo isn't competing with 360 or Ps3, they're going after non gamers.

Microsoft doesn't feel like they're competing with Wii, they're setting their sights on Sony exclusively.

Sony doesn't think they're competing with anyone.

Dear Delusional Console Makers:

You all make consoles and are competing with all of each other.

So, WiiWare finally launches tomorrow here in the states. What's everyone downloading?

VC-Reviews posted:
REDMOND, Wash., May 12, 2008 – Nintendo’s Wii™ console has already changed the way people play games. Now its new WiiWare™ service decisively tears down limitations for how developers create games – and the way people receive them.

Starting today, Wii owners with an Internet connection can download new, creative games from a wide range of developers, from large publishers to indie shops. By reducing the barriers that make console game development prohibitively expensive, WiiWare showcases original ideas in the most democratic environment in industry history, connecting the people who make games more directly with the people who play them.

WiiWare frees developers from the traditional constraints of video game development. WiiWare lets developers experiment with big ideas and small budgets to the benefit of players everywhere. Newer, smaller teams now have an outlet for their creative ideas. The constantly growing WiiWare library will have a regular flow of unique video gaming experiences consumers might not otherwise have access to.

“WiiWare is to the video game industry what independent films are to Hollywood,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “WiiWare lets developers experiment with new ideas and experiences. Combined with our collection of classic Virtual Console games, Wii provides one-stop shopping for the greatest games of the past – and the future.”

WiiWare games are easy to download. Just go to the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel, find the game you want, redeem Wii Points™ and start the download. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. New games, at various Wii Point values, will be added to WiiWare on Mondays. The newly launched Nintendo Channel on Wii will let people view videos of and read information about WiiWare games and other Nintendo products. Users also can see player opinions to help them decide what to play next.
Today, the inaugural lineup of WiiWare games is just a taste of things to come:

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King (Square Enix, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,500 Wii Points): FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King takes a legendary franchise and launches it into the realm of simulation gaming. You are the commander of your castle, and it is your duty to fling the invading enemies sky-high, watching them plummet to their demise. As you progress, add powerful spells and upgrades to your arsenal for repelling the attacks. How long can you hold them off?

Pop (Nnooo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Pop bubbles to score points and stop the timer from running out. Pop can be enjoyed by anyone – casual gamers can simply play to pop bubbles and keep the game moving, whereas advanced players will need to pick their shots rapidly and accurately and generate combos to maximize their score.

V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (High Voltage Software®, Inc., 1-4 players, Rated T for Teen – Simulated Gambling, 700 Wii Points): V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack re-creates the casino experience, with fully animated players and a realistic Las Vegas dealer. Single players can increase their bankrolls, while multiple players can engage in a head-to-head mini-blackjack tournament.

TV Show King (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): TV Show King transforms your living room into a real TV quiz show studio where you’ll face the challenge of answering more than 3,000 questions across six different categories.
