Electronic Entertainment Expo – Los Angeles, CA – May 18, 2005 – LucasArts revealed today that Indiana Jones® will once again don his famous fedora with a new video game set for release on next-generation consoles in 2007. The company also announced its intention to enter the handheld gaming market, with a Sony PSP™ version of Star Wars Battlefront™ II set to join the previously unveiled PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and PC versions this Fall. Also coming to the PC platform are immersive online adventures in Star Wars Galaxies®: The Total Experience (May 24, 2005) and the power to command galactic forces in Star Wars Empire at War™ (Spring 2006).

Since it will be released in 2007 and no story nor title is given, its most likely the INDY IV GAME!!!

The words "experience an interactive story unlike any that’s ever unfolded before them" cry out "we really want to make a game that's on par with Fate of Atlantis, however, we're going to fiddle about with crappy Tomb Raider gameplay mechanics to make the game unplayable beyond all belief before we think about writing it".

Is the Pope a Catholic?
The release date is just too close to the estimated release date for Indy 4.
I am a little cautious since I am one of those who has not been impressed by the last two Indy games.
"Infernal Machine" felt to much like Tomb Raider and
"Emperor's Tomb" although better, was damaged by the frustration of long, difficult levels with a plain bad save system.
I hope they can regain the glory of "Indy Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" one of my all times favorites and despite the primitive graphics still head a shoulders better then the two sequel games.
And I have become very cynical about Game Hype in general. Note how often the games look great in the ad campaigns and how seldom they are great in reality?
And I still think Lucasarts is missing the boat in not doing a new X Wing/Tie Fighter Sim.

I would imagine the game will tie in with the movie and ride the wave of marketing (see what Jim Ward did with Battlefront / OT DVDs).
I'd also guess that the game will not follow the movie plot, but perhaps will cover events leading up to the 4th film.
I'm stil hoping one day for a "KOTOR" style RPG hybrid Indy game. Quests, exploration, treasure hunts, partnerships and small parties. You know. Like in the movies.

That would be the perfect format for a Indy Jones game..basically the emphasis on story as in "Fate of Atlantis" with some rpg touches instead of still another Action game with lousy controls.
I think the decison to go the "Tomb Raider" jump till you are sick of it route with "Infernal Machine" badly damaged the Indy game franchise.
And please, Lucasarts, a halfway resonable save system unlike "EMperor's Tomb" so you don't have to spend hours replaying the same level from the beginning....
Lucasarts announced the Indy game at E3 because they needed a new product announcement at E3 for reasons of prestige and publicity,and they did not have much else new to announce. It's almost mandatory that if you are a major game company you have new product to announce at E3.Granted
an Indy game comes as no great surprise to anybody considering hints dropped by Lucas himself and that anybody with any brains knew some kind of game would tie in with Indy 4 the movie,but still they had a official announcement of a new product at E3 to maintain some prestige in the Industry.

They also would have announced the game so it gets mentioned alongside the major publicity for Xbox360 & PS3.
It took over a year for the first screenshot from KOTOR to be revealed, and 3+ years between the announcemnet and the release.
2007 isn't that far off...

Good point, Jc.
The thing is that if you want to be considered a major player in the Video Game industry, you almost have to come up with a new product to announce at E3.
And Lucasarts did not seem to have much else.
Hopefully by working on the game this far in advance, they will avoid the rushed out the door too early bugs that happend with "Battlefront".
Just give us a real Indy game this time, not another "Tomb Raider" wannabe...

"The Emperor's Tomb" was pretty good. The sound effects, and voice work were excellent. The settings were cool, but you constantly had to jump on stuff, or swing from vines, and due to horrible controls, Indy almost always died more from jumping than getting shot at.
