	At the end of this interview with LucasArts 2nd in command, Peter Hirschman he says, tragically and somewhat patronisingly; Peter Hirschman posted: Q: A new flight sim game in the style of X-Wing, like Totally Games used to do? A: Oh goodness, I am such a fan of Larry Holland and what Totally Games has done. X-Wing is personally one of my favourite Star Wars games of all time. Larry is a hero! I've been fortunate enough to personally tell him that too. I think that with Star Wars Battefront II, which is on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 2, we're delivering a bit of that experience. It's very accessible Star Wars space combat. I've always enjoyed what Factor 5 did with the Rogue Squadron series, but it was very much arcade oriented. I think what Pandemic Studios is delivering with Battlefront II is much more akin to what Larry did with his X-Wing series. It's very accessible, yet has some depth and true flight mechanics. I think people who loved X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter are going to love Battlefront II. It's the first time in a long time that you're going to be able to have multiplayer battles - X-Wings vs. TIE Fighters - over the Internet. It looks great. I don't think that well ever do just a dedicated X-Wing or TIE Fighter flight simulator again. Genres lines have blurred so much that people expect more, and frankly, we want to do more. I call bull **** on that. Multi genre games have their place sure. But if it's OK to do a standard FPS or RTS, then why the hell a flight-sim is ruled out is beyond comprehension. 	No kidding. We get a "New Flight Sim?" game question here like every two weeks. There is demand. These guys have their heads up their...feet...if they haven't noticed that a major slice of the SW gaming community STILL prefers their older games over the new stuff.

I still think it's "more akin" to the Battlefield series. ...Actually, "more akin" is'nt the right phrase, "virtually identical" might suit better. 	WTH in no way will the space combat in BF2 ever be better the x vs TIE thats crazy!! they really need to make a new one. The point is hardly anyone loved X-wing vs. Tie Fighter. Why? Because it HAD NO PLOT. They hastily put togeter Balance of Power to accomodate all the negative comments from the press and fans. he biggest thing about X-Wing, Tie Fighter & Alliance is the wonderful story progression. All throughout that article he's going on about LucasArts' new mission to make games with compelling stories and characters. The old X-Wing series (except X vs T) had that in bucketloads. And unless there's a radical overhaul in Battlefront 2 the plot and characterisations will be almost non existent. Yup. And the BOP add-on wasn't very good, and way too short If they used the OLD Alliance engine, without even updating the graphics and made a new game, I'd buy it for the new story

	Like the rest of you I have wanted this for years. That article just makes me sad. I'm honestly at the point where I've given up hope that we'll ever get a new flight sim. What's even sadder is that I think the reason LA doesn't want to make one is for pure marketing reasons. They don't want to make a game that competes with galaxies lightspeed expansion. Right now that is the closest thing to X-Wing out there. If you look at that article and read between the lines Peter says exactly that. To me that's a cryptic refference to my theroy. 	Yeah. That's a good point about Galaxies Jump To Lightspeed. They'd rather direct combat-sim fans to their MMORPG that create a new standalone game for them. I also guess flight sims could be seen as not console-friendly, thus reducing the potential audience for such games. 	Did this exec even play any of the Xwing series games? How is the flight within them any way comparable to that of Battlefront? Yes, Battlefront is fun. So was Rogue Squadron. But those are not Xwing games. They're fun for awhile, but they don't have the lasting power, or any depth.. Someone you would have a one night stand with. But never marry. The Xwing series is the girl of your dreams. This is most saddening. Think of all the great stuff they could do with a brand new Xwing game. Computers have come so far since Xwing Alliance. My guess is that they don't want to dedicate Resources to a game that would only come out on the Computer. They'd rather make sure that all they're games are dumbed down enough to be played by Console gamers.

	Talk about fracking stupid. Wouldn't it be one of the most profitable games out there if they did it? I mean I don't even really think they'd need kick ass graphics considering most of the time you're in space. Black background and white dots to work as stars with the occasional ships around you seem pretty cheap by comparision to a detailed forest that have shadows and wind movements along with other things. Plus little to no plot would be required. Oh and I just sooooo want to climb into a cockpit and fly around like a moron due to having horrible controls. -----signature----- BSG Costume Group.
