I finished the game in about 25 or 26 hours, but I ignored most of the side-quests in the second half of the game in order to wrap it up, so I wouldn't be thinking about it all day tomorrow while I'm at work. For instance, I'd done several side-quests, cleared the planet Noveria, got Liara on my team, and cleared planet Feros, and by that point I'd already clocked in about 18 hours.

Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'm eventually going to play through again, but this time I'm going to do everything, and I expect it will take much, much longer.

I'm not sure where I've been because I hadn't heard anything about this game until I stumbled on this thread on Friday. After reading about it and watching a trailer, I ran out and bought it that same night. grin

But, I haven't played it yet. The reason is I had left KOTOR II unfinished from a while back and I wanted to go back to that first and beat it before moving on. Also, I've only beaten the first KOTOR as a light side character, and planned at some point to go back and play it dark side. So, I have two questions for those of you who have played Mass Effect:

After playing this game on one of the next gen consoles and all the graphic/gameplay improvements on the 360, would you find it difficult to go back and play KOTOR all the way through again? I'm trying to decide if I should first play KOTOR again, dark side this time...

Also, just curious what you guys thought about the extra content in the Mass Effect Collector's Edition?

Thanks!

I don't think I'll play KotOR again as it would seem so inferior to Mass Effect. The only reason I could see playing KotOR is the Star Wars setting.

I can't comment on the CE stuff though as I ended up just getting the standard Mass Effect since I wanted to make sure I got it at release rather than waiting for the CE in the mail.

I could probably still play KOTOR for the same reasons I play KOTOR now; it's a great game no matter how old it is, kind of like GoldenEye for 64 (although, truthfully, I haven't played that in forever), but you get my point.

I would recommend playing KOTOR dark side first though. Don't both playing KOTOR II dark side unless you just really want to. I'll tell you right now that both endings will disappoint you.

So, I say you finish KOTOR on dark side and then enjoy the sweet contrast of gameplay once you boot up Mass Effect for the first time. drooling

So I finally got my xbox back today, and I proceeded to play pretty much the entire day. Spectacular game. I was surprised how quick Nihlus got offed, I was thinking he stuck with you the entire way. He looked really cool. Ah well, I have Garrus now. I was stuck on the puzzle on Noveria. I admit, I looked up the correct combo. I can't wait to continue this game though. Its gunna be right up there with KotOR for me.

I never played KOTOR II, and after playing ME I doubt I would want to. I put 80+ hours into Obilivion, and I didn't even touch two of the main guilds with all their respective quests. I never bought KOTOR and played my roommate's about a year ago. I never had an Xbox. Now that I have a 360 I bought GTA San Andreas and almost never play it because the graphics just don't compare. The draw distances for me were just jarring.

If you ever play KOTOR, play it on PC. I've been playing it on PC since the day it came out. I got it for xbox a few months ago because it was dirt cheap.... its just terrible, SO much better on PC. Plus theres mods!

This would have to be the most amazing game made yet. The graphics are absolutely out of this world, so lifelike, so detailed. Superb voice acting, and it helps to have your character vocal as opposed to the mute Revan and the Exile were. Plus attitude helps as well. 'The council can kiss my ass' so says Jane Shepard. We need to have strong female protagonists like this. And they finally got RPG action right and rather than doing turn based or KOTOR style combat made it all dependent on how good you are. Not being railroaded into being a Jedi helps tremendously as well, let me be the soldier for a change. All in all I don't think this is game of the year, oh no, this at the moment look like it'll be game of the decade.

So you *did* play as "Jane Shepard," then. Figured someone would eventually do that.

Yup, for all they built Nihlus up as early on in the game (über-Spectre who personally killed 10,000 men and your grandma), he got stuffed pretty quickly. The Noveria memory-core puzzle bitched me up something fierce, too. Right off the top of my head, first you have to get the squares mixed up between the left and the right sides. Then you have to put them in the middle column from the bottom up.

Screw that ****. And I thought the Twilight Princess Master Sword statue-puzzle was maddening. At least Keith David gets to rule the galaxy at the end of the game. When will he get to do that in an actual movie? (Or in real life, for that matter?) It was worth playing all the way through just for that alone.

If you're a continuity-junkie like myself, the two books covering the history of the universe, the timelines, and the other races were the best things, along with the documentaries. Wish the concept-art book was a bit larger, though. The collector's tin was hinged, which was a plus. Nice, thick package (which is also what she said).

It's clear they're drawing from Star Wars, insofar as fleshing out the universe with backstory and detailed history...wish the novels and DC would get here sooner, though.

Not in any way relevant, but the Limited Collector's Edition also had a neat Battlestar Galactica "The Final Season" advert insert in the case (with Baltar, Sharon, and Number Six), with a promo for the Xbox Live Arcade game on the rear.

Naturally. I'll see if there can be a relationship between Ashley and a male Shepard later, but as well as myself I also slotted in Revan and the Exile.

I did as well. But I had to stop because her voice sucks. And it's downright awful compared to the awesomeness of the voice of "John Shepard". Seriously, Mark Meer did a better job than Keith David. I didn't even know that was possible (though Daniel Dae Kim came close in Saints Row).

That also comes in the regular edition. At least, it did in mine.

Wow.

So I just finished my first play through and this game has shot right past KotOR 1 & 2 as my favorite title. I wanted to think I was keeping up on the game pretty well but I had no idea the combat would be in that style but I ended up preferring it over Turn-Based by a lot. It kept all the elements of an RPG I like too, so bonus.

Just to be safe I'm gonna spoiler block everything here....

So I made my Shepard look as mean as I could as I was going to do Renegade, but I switched Paragon not too far in, I didn't really do it on purpose, just kinda fell that way. About halfway through I noticed he looked a lot like Chuck Norris...

I did pretty much the whole game with Ashley and Liara, it was a good team. Ashley and I were gunners and Liara put biotics to good use and kept most of them enemies floating in the air. I ignored pretty much everyone else, though. I did the whole romance subplot with Liara which was interesting. I like how the Asari worked, being uni-gender and all, interesting idea.

When it came time to choose who would die, I chose Kaiden since I had ignored him anyway.

I tried to play around on sidequests as much as I could but the story of this game was just too good, I had to finish it. I had chills going through Ilos, it was beautiful.

As far as my 360's performance I was impressed. I had heard about issues but it ran a lot smoother than I expected. Framterate drops were there but didn't hinder gameplay, whereas they were messing me up on Super Mario Galaxy which is that last game I would have expected to have issue. My 360 works pretty much non-stop the whole time but I never got stuck in anything, didn't freeze and have to restart, nothing. One of my friends is having the tech issues though, maybe my 360 is just well built (my 2nd one, btw, I'm a RRoD Survivor).

All in all I loved this game and I'm more than happy to play it 8 times through just to get the achievements.

I have an Elite an it occasionally will freeze up and I will have to restart it. Also sometimes the textures took a while to load, but the main times I noticed was when I started talking to people.

It's good to hear all the praise you guys are giving this game. Thanks also for the insight into the Collector's Edition and playing/not playing KOTOR beforehand. After hearing about all the effort they've put into this game and really creating a story and universe behind it, I went ahead and ordered the LCE. It should be here tomorrow. I think I'm going to try to play through KOTOR dark side (which I haven't done yet) before starting up Mass Effect though. That way I'll get the most out of both games.

For some reason I knew immediately that the puzzle was basically the same as the on you solve during your Sith trials in KotOR.
