Never thought I'd say this but well done EA. They have sent the following letter to fox
As the parent company of BioWare, the studio which created the game, EA would like you to set the record straight on a number of errors and misstatements which incorrectly characterize the story and character interactions in Mass Effect.
Your headline above the televised story read: "New videogame shows full digital nudity and sex." Fact: Mass Effect does not include explicit or frontal nudity. Love scenes in non-interactive sequences include side and profile shots - a vantage frequently used in many prime-time television shows. It's also worth noting that the game requires players to develop complex relationships before characters can become intimate and players can chose to avoid the love scenes altogether.
FNC voice-over reporter says: "You'll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex."
Fact: Sex scenes in Mass Effect are not graphic. These scenes are very similar to sex sequences frequently seen on network television in prime time.
FNC reporter says: "Critics say Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers."
Fact: That is flat out false. Mass Effect and all related marketing has been reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and rated Mature - appropriate for players 17-years and older. ESRB routinely counsels retailers on requesting proof of age in selling M-rated titles and the system has been lauded by members of Congress and the Federal Trade Commission. In practical terms, the ratings work as well or better than those used for warning viewers about television content.
The resulting coverage was insulting to the men and women who spent years creating a game which is acclaimed by critics for its high creative standards. As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness.
Do you watch the Fox Network? Do you watch Family Guy? Have you ever seen The OC? Do you think the sexual situations in Mass Effect are any more graphic than scenes routinely aired on those shows? Do you honestly believe that young people have more exposure to Mass Effect than to those prime time shows?
This isn't a legal threat; it's an appeal to your sense of fairness. We're asking FNC to correct the record on Mass Effect.
Sincerely,
Jeff Brown
Vice President of Communications
Electronic Arts, Inc.

I am so sick and tired of hearing ignorant people call this a game that is all about sex and objectifies women.
* In a 30+ hour game, an OPTIONAL sex scene takes two minutes, tops.
* Most of the women in the game are soldiers, leaders, reporters, mafia bosses, etc. They are women in power, women who are independent. How the heck does that objectify women????
* Especially if you play as a FEMALE Shepard, you are a COMMANDER of your own ship and you, as a WOMAN, end up SAVING the entire galaxy!!!
GRRRRRRRRR! There are no words to describe how absolutely outraged I am over this.
Also I really hate how people think that it is EASY for a kid to get an M-rated game. I card every single person who buys an M-rated game, even if they are obviously over the age of 17. If a minor tries to buy an M-rated game, I sure as hell make sure that parent knows what's in the game and I will refuse to let a minor buy a game that is rated M. People tell me all the time that we card better than the movie theaters do.
If there is any person selling M-rated games to minors, SHAME ON THEM. Because they are giving ammunition to the stupid journalists and politicians and psychologists who are trying to impose restrictions on video games.
Gah! Just gah!!!!

I think our rating system is different over here, I'm pretty sure if something is rated M then it's only recommended for people over 15, but I think a 10-14 year old could buy it. However over here Mass Effect is R13....

Random glitch while playing. This stayed on the map after killing the geth in the noveria generator level.
Ashley and Liara would target it but not shoot, on this level they would target the shadow, if we went up the stairs they would target the floor above this.

There's a few glitches like that. I got frozen in the Benezia fight.
Actually, Noveria had me hating Mass Effect. Then we hit Virmire and I was back in love with the game. I might go so far as to say that Virmire's the best 'level' in any RPG I've ever played. All kinds of drama.

One time on Feros I got stuck in the wall while leaning against it. I tried for five minutes to get out of the wall. In the end, I pulled out my shotgun with high explosive rounds, shot into the wall while running backwards out of the wall. Doing it about 5 times got me out. I hadn't saved in nearly long enough so I was SO happy.

To get out of those glitches just save the game and then load up again, you should be out of the wall when you reload. At least that worked for me.

Now that you mention it I think I had the exact same glitch in the very same place. I just ignored it and moved on.

Aye. I would have tried that, but I was stuck in a combat zone and couldn't save.

It's definitely up there in my Top 3 somewhere -- although once you've finished Planescape: Torment, you're jaded (and scarred) for life. That said, though, Vermire rocks hard, and is emotional as hell. It's one of the main reasons I'm playing through the game again.

Mass Effect is now officially the greatest videogame ever made and here's why:
My two children (7 years old and 2 and a half years old), who have watched me play ME since it's release, seem to have suddenly developed an interest in outer space, and the greater universe in general. My 7 year old is asking me questions about what was on Earth before people and what aliens are really like, while my two year old is making solar systems in the bathtub ("look daddy, I made planets," is what he told me) and insisting on playing with all my Star Wars "rocket ships."
All this makes me very happy.
