For the last two weeks we've been steadily pouring content into the 2142 engine and trying actually playing with it. And to help us with it we've recruited a team of 12 'Alpha Testers' to assist us in testing and offer feedback on the direction of our work.

So far it's been almost nonstop with the updates, as we are constantly adding in new weapons and soldiers to try out. To assist us in it we've even developed a tool in-house to distribute patches. All our testers have to do to patch is open up a little app and press a big "UPDATE" button. The tool then downloads the latest content, merges it with their last build, and repacks the mod all without any further input by the tester. This way we don't have to build installers for each patch and can add content as it's ready, thus only sending the testers the new content rather than an updated .zip with all the original stuff in it (thus keeping the downloads extremely small).

And as you can see, the results so far have been astounding. All those shots are taken in-game on medium range computers, as performance is just as important as looks here at FirstStrike. We also hope to have some in-game 2142 shots of our own custom built maps soon (we just started moving those over, and while they work they still need a little cleanup) but for now our testers get to enjoy the full star-warsyness on tweaked 2142 maps.

And for those still hoping to get a beta spot, I'm happy to say "Don't Panic!" We will be looking for at least 30 more beta testers in the coming few weeks and months. What we are looking out for in a beta tester will be someone who posts on the forums regularly, is sociable and willing to offer constructive feedback on what they see, is well regarded, and has a copy of 2142. Oh, and being on IRC helps as that's where most of us devs hang out, and where we run the testing centre anyway.

I'm glad to see a mod team that actually updates from time to time, and doesn't just give up after making a few models. Godspeed to you all, because I want to play this as soon as my PC is up and running again.

Well with Christmas nearly done and dusted and a New Year waiting to be embraced the Team at First Strike continue working as hard as ever to get a Mod out for you guys.
Weapons testing is now in its final stages and with the exception of a few new grenades and weapons to be tweaked we are very nearly there we think.
The Team would like to thank all the Community sites for the continued exposure and wish all our Fans old and new a Very Happy New Year.

Now without further ado here are some Screenshots of our latest build along with some Video captured by FSDev| Preacher. Please bare in mind a lot of what is here is purely vanilla BF2142 some lighting issues still exist on the player models but this was as the news article states a Weapons test, these little glitches will be ironed out.

This is for Battlefield 2142 now, correct? I think a mod should change the title to avoid confusion.

Awesome!

In every mod I've played that has Speeder Bikes in it, someone always makes a custom map that works as a Speeder race track. If you guys made a racing map included, I would probably never leave my PC again. But anyways, it looks very good, And I can't wait to see this completed.

Well the endor track is very exciting news to me, because I always have a lot of fun on those. As for the bunker, it was good looking. The way the camera moved reminded me of DOOM 3, and I was waiting for a demon to pop up. But seriously, the bunker, the TIE fighter, and the weapons testing video pumped me up a lot for this release. This easily the most gorgeous Star Wars mod, and possibly most gorgeous Star Wars GAME I have ever seen.

Do you have a rough date yet, or is it "When it's done"?

Thanks again for the kind comments!

We have a release date within 3 months, currently on second weapon testing.
ATST needs tweaking (there is a comparison video one of our team members have created with the ATST found on Endor and I can say without any crits its the real mccoy).

A few more Characters to get into game, a few Vehicles and then mapping.

Beta will be around 2 months from now I would say but with this team things move on a daily basis. I hope you guys check the site out and add to any crits for the game as we could do with the feedback. We are a very fan focused mod, after all we all like Star Wars dont we happy

I'm not a fan of battlefield, but I now want it just for this mod. Great work, I love the idea since it's like Battlefront 3 for now.

If you had a wants list what Characters, Weapons and Kit would you want included ?
At the moment we are working in the Classic Trilogy timeline.

SO far we have
Stormtroopers Assault | Medic
Hoth SnowTrooper
Scout Troopers
Rebel Endor Male Assault | Medic
Rebel Endor Female | Sniper | Recon
Mon Calamari Heavy Weapons | Support
Quarren Assault
Hoth Assault

Plus around 30 plus weapons, grenades and subsidery items.
6 Droids from Astromechs to Medical Droids FX-7 etc.

What Character, Locale and Battle would you want included ?

I would kill for a real authentic feeling Coruscant map, but I know that would be hard work. Anyways, here's a list:

Hoth (You can't have war without Hoth)
Endor (Same thing)
Coruscant (In the middle of the city)
Dantooine (Big open fields with maybe a couple of huge bases to conquer)
Tatooine (Beggars Canyon, not Mos Eisley)
Mustafar (I have no idea what the map would look like, but it would look cool.)

That's all I've got for now.

As for Weapons, I think if you take a look at the battlefield and battlefront series you can gather what you need. The weapons have always been very well balanced.
