Hey everybody!
I know I've been gone for a little while and for that I apologize. We've been preparing for E3 and it's been a wild crazy ride. If anyone is going to E3 in a couple of weeks, stop by the LucasArts booth and check out the line up for this year. There are some really great games in the works including more stuff in store for Star Wars: Empire at War.
This has also been an exciting week for EAW and I have a few announcements!
Work is nearly completed on Patch 1.04 and the targeted release is sometime next week. Here are some of the highlights:
- Numerous balancing tweaks to both the Rebellion and Empire units
- Custom maps created with the map editor can now be played in the game
- If a player needs a particular custom map in order to play in an online game, the map will be automatically downloaded
- An issue causing capital ships to sometimes become invisible has been corrected
- Check out the changes in more detail when the patch goes live!
Work on the map editor is also almost complete and is scheduled to be available as a separate download along with the release of the patch or very soon thereafter pending a few finishing touches being applied as we speak! The editor will allow users to create custom space and land maps for Star Wars: Empire at War, more details to come.
I heard from the rumor mill that there are some changes coming to the forums in the near future including an art update to the look of the forums and my most requested feature? a search function! I'll fill you guys in with more info on that when I get an update from the Lucas Online team.
Also, the Lucas Online team has opened a casting call for volunteer moderators for the forums. With regards only to the EAW Forums, all interested parties please respond to my next post about volunteer moderators for consideration.
Finally the moderators we have now have been kind enough to help out but they need to get back to doing whatever the Lucas Online folks have for them. I'd like to thank them for helping to keep these forums clean and friendly during these last few months, it isn't easy.

The patch itself sounds cool let alone an expansion too. I wish more games would use that 'automatic map download' feature. It is a bummer when you go to play a game and you can't join in with your friends because you are missing the map, and then you have to go find it then download it.
Is it me or does it seem kinda soon for an expansion to come out?

I was hoping there would be an expansion pack, I'll read about it tomorrow because its pretty late in England right now and Im needed somewhere else. I hope LA do a good job of it

It probably months away, and just simply being announced at E3.
It wil crack me up if the expansion is a "Darth Vader" expansion and this is what the rumoured "Darth Vader" game is!

I hope it's not a expanded universe expansion.
Because my computer can't run it, and I'm already planning to use my tax rebate to buy a sound system.
I need more monies.

It will probobly be a Clone Wars expansion. Seems like the next logical step. I just hope they DON'T keep it seperate from the regular game. I want to see the Republic fight the Empire.

Yeah they already released that expansion, Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns.

I'm thinking it'll probably be an expansion based on the battles of the OT featuring: Yavin, Hoth (OMG YES!) and Endor.
It does seem pretty soon for an expansion but Jp's probably right in that'll it'll just be announced that there will be one and it'll come out in October or something.

Maybe it would actually get me into playing EaW again. Waiting to see what mod tools they will release, but a map editor is a good start

Tell them to make the blinkin' map bigger, and, um, 3D fleet combat. Don't they understand Homeworld 2-type games have been every kid's dream for 20yrs, the sheep shearing bucks? To put it more delicately . . .

I don't think they can make 3D space combat with EaW, Ex. 2D is built into the game engine...

An expansion pack can alter the engine of the original game. MOTS had, umm, coloured lighting and stuff and different fighter classes that weren't possible in JK.
