A widely appealing strategy game, Empire at War let gamers play the light side or the dark side in an epic Galactic Civil War. The Rebels have just destroyed the Death Star, and the galaxy is in turmoil. I like the fact that you'll be playing as a criminal trying to gain more power. Finally something original that doesn't have you controlling the Rebels or the Empire!

I agree, though I do hope that they let you play as the rebels or the empire in campaign mode. I want to be able to play the SP campaign 3 times.

Hope they add a bit more AI. I mean, the original AoE had simple commands like 'stand ground'. ST:Armada had the convenient ability to configure, on a unit-to-unit basis, the ship's attack pattern, special weapon usage, and movement patterns.
EaW had attack, stop, move, and guard. They could really benefit from an expanded AI. If nothing else, 'Stand ground'.

Did they have to make up another character? Even Black Sun couldn't get a SSD, much less the Emperor's personal command ship. Apparently its "continuity be damned" today

Yeah I was quite perplexed how some crimelord is going to get his hands on the second death star and start blowing up ****. I'd figured that the SSD that you'd acquire would be just a regular SSD and not the Eclipse. . .

While 2ndQuest turns briefly into a salivating TOTJ comic character, I actually like this new approach. A fun, free game for once, not continuity-inhibited obedience. And the daring move to show the Eclipse instead of another million X-wing variant earns my respect for the idea alone.
The FOC acronym is sibilantly close to another, though.
