RBE's thread for the first NWN.
"So stay tuned for pleanty of NWN2 info. May is a crazy month and there will be alot of it."- Maverick Shane on the Official NWN2 boards
With E3 coming up, May is going to reveal an excellent amount of new info on the upcoming sequel to one of the greatest computer rpgs ever, so I figure we could use a thread for it.
Blurb from the main site:
Neverwinter Nights 2 (NWN2) is a computer role-playing game set in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms, one of the popular campaign settings of Dungeons and Dragons. It takes the player from the tiniest of villages into a sweeping tale of danger and war, chronicling their rise from a peasant to a full-fledged hero of the Realms, defending it against one of the greatest threats of the age.
Build a character that suits your style of play - good or evil, chaotic or lawful, with any number of skills, feats and professions available at the click of a button. Whether lobbing fireballs and researching forgotten spells as a powerful Wizard, hacking a trail through legions of orcs as a Fighter armed only with a battle axe and your courage, or taking on the role of a Rogue that can slip into the shadows at a moment's notice and take the purse from even the most perceptive of guardsmen. Choose your alignment, your allies, your companions, and how you want your character to develop... design the character you want, role-play the way you want, and carry the battle to the enemy.
The design aspects of Neverwinter Nights 2 don't stop there, however. Past the campaign included with the game itself, Neverwinter Nights 2 also gives you all the tools you need to build your own modules, campaigns, and adventures for your friends - move buildings, terrain, script encounters, write dialogues, create quests and items - everything you need to create an epic adventure of your own is included in the toolset for you and any other worldbuilder to use.
So if you are interested in adventure - or building adventures of your own - look no further. Neverwinter Nights 2 is on the horizon, and adventure awaits.
Also--An excellent FAQ.

Better single player on the scale of the Baldur's Gate/Torment games please. Beyond that I don't care.

Well, I'm psyched by the stronghold aspect...and the PrCs sound nice.
However, the world map "feature" really annoys me, from what I've read of it.

How does the graphics compare between Neverwinter and Morrowind games? All I know is KOTOR (eye view) and Shadows of Amn (ceiling view).

Morrowind is a Doom style first person, though it may have 3rd person KOTOR style as well, I'm not sure.
Neverwinter is like BG zoomed in.

What's the problem with the world map?
Well...for me, the fact that it exists. I enjoy walking places! From Neverwinter north to Luskan, there was a good amount of sidequests and interesting areas to go check out. I don't want to just click a map and go to the next location, which is how it seems it'll work.

So, essentially it will work just like Baldur's Gate 2? Unless you get waylayed by enemies and must defend yourself.

I love NWN!
I've read some news about NWN2 before. By the looks of the screenshots I've seen, it looks like the graphics will be much better that in the first game. I liked the storyline of NWN1 and making of the character, but visual part wasn't really something. It would be nice to play FR again, since it has been long since I played Baldur's gate.

Aragorn, it sounds to me like, that this World Map thing will work out much like it does in Guild Wars. There is a map of, well the world, showing where you can and can't go. But the thing is the map is all blury to begin with. As you move around and explore the map is revealed to be very clear and easy to read. So you have to travel between each city that way you will be able to see them on the map, it is kinda like you have to 'unlock' them with that process. But once the city or specific location is explored you can click on them and travel there instantly. There are only certain areas you can travel to instantly like that in GW(probably like 40-50 all together). It isn't really that bad of an idea, especially with how big the game world actually is.
I really liked how it was used in GW so if NWN uses the same idea then it will be nice. It does make the game easier, but not to the extent of ruining it.
Hope that helped shed some light.

There won't be any random encounters when travelling apparently.
And they said the world map worked like in IWD2, IIRC; all the places are interconnected pretty much but you can skip to them on the world map. There were just as many locations in BG2 as in NWN, and that had a world map. I think it'll just be a matter of making travel faster by you not having to walk through useless areas (a feature I sorely missed in NWN, actually).

Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate.
Thanks for clearing up the map bit. Haven't actually played any of those games (please don't shoot me.) May be able to rectify that this summer.
Also--some pre e3 footage, if you haven't seen it here.
