In DnD, 20's the cap. There are epic levels-- in NWN, they only added the epic levels in when they'd hit the second expansion. Why would they put more in when they didn't even get the DM Client out with release?

Was wondering whether there was a thread on this somewhere. Maybe I should venture into the games forum more often.
Anyway, I just upgraded my graphics card to get NWN2 to run and I'm somewhere in the first chapter. For the record, the storyline is pretty weak so far. I expected more from Obsidian. Only the companions are somewhat well written and then only in parts. I agree with Errant_Venture - the evil side is looking more interesting.
Even with the latest 1.03 patch, there are still a horrendous quantity of bugs (particularly graphical and story related). And performance is shocking - for a game that doesn't look that stunning, the system specs needed to run it are a rort. I suppose this is what everyone has been saying.
One positive though is that Obsidian have put some effort into the background D&D mechanics. While this isn't everyone's thing, it should enable some quality fan created content that will partially make up for the sub-par official campaign.
My part-way-through assessment then is that NWN2 does capture the mood of the original, but it also captures NWN's laughable plot. Pity that - Obsidian have now screwed up two sequels (though the first blunder was only partially their fault). Maybe Chris Avellone should go write for Mass Effect or something.

Well I just wasted about 50€ to this game and I can't play it. Of course I should have read the system requirements more carefully. I just didn't realize I had so crappy video card. Now I have to decide whether to upgrade this old machine or just buy a new one. At least I have plenty of time to think about that since I have no money at the moment.

The thing is that at Level 20 in the D&D and even the Star Wars Universe, you're basically a demi-god. more so in D&D. We're talking maybe Gandalf the White, at a push. That's why there's a level 20 cap.

Since I can't play NWN2 I just continued to play the original NWN. It's good thing people are still making fantastic mods for that one. Maybe by the time I get good enough computer to run NWN2 there will be some good mods for that too.

Yup, except epic levels, but I think that's exaggeration.

Hopefully there should be some good fan content soon. The toolset seems to be much improved over last time, so that should encourage people to take the time to develop quality modules. And these are much needed.
Don't get me wrong, the plot of the official campaign does seem to be improving (I'm now in chapter II), but it remains a shadow (ah the irony) of what could be presented with this toolset.

I have been browsing over the PRC forums and I see they have what is called a PRC 3.0 which contains a character class I have been curious about enough to possibly play this game, the Soulknife. If I were to purchase NWN Diamond and then go d/l their PRC 3.0 whould I be able to play that class? I am not normally a computer gamer so I'm a bit lost on all of this.

I've never heard of that upgrade, so you would probably have to go check on their site to be sure.
If it's a mod for the original NWN and its expansions than yeah you need to get at least the original NWN. Not sure if they sell it alone anymore so yeah, you may need to get the Diamond Version. If it is NWN2 then you would obviously need that game instead of Diamond.

I installed the PCR pack shortly before NWN2 launched. Tried playing it with the OC but never could figure out how to get it working. At character creation all the subraces, classes and Prestige Classes were greyed out. The PRC's I could understand but the new base classes I couldn't get to pick nor could I select the new Feats upon creation. Eventualy I got tired of trying to make a Psionic and a werewolf and gave up.

To use PRC base classes or subraces, you need to create a character using the PRC's Java based Character Creator. For instructions see here.
PRC Character Creator 1.6 (nwnvault)
PRC Pack 3.1a - exe version (nwnvault)

Oh hey, thanks. So it's just a matter of getting NWN One and/or Two, getting the PRC, and off I go. I have browsed their forums but there was not a whole lot of info on the Soulknife as a playable class. It was mentioned, but the only folks who ever really talk about it play the paper and pencil game at the Wizards forums.

To my knowledge, the PRC Pack is only available for NWN1 at this time.
For info on the Soulknife base class, see this page.
