Also, in the EGM cover story a month or two ago, they ranked the control schemes like so:
- GameCube Controller
- Classic Controller
- Regular Wii controller
They said all the control schemes were passable, but the insanos devoted to Melee will be most pleased with keeping the GameCube controller set-up.
The gamecube controller is the best. I just popped in brawl quick for a friend (who stood out there with me for an hour in the cold)and we did a few quick matches not even bothering with the wii mote. One thing I noticed is that normally I could throw an item away with the c-stick. Not anymore. Had to use Z. Other than that, the controls seemed the same. Played a few of the new characters: Pitt, Pokemon Trainer and Ike all three of which are very impressive.
The game is fantastic so far.

I'll wait for a while to get the game, I think. I know I can be patient enough.

I take my earlier comment back. I walked into my neighborhood BestBuy (not expecting to find any) and there were a bazillion copies...
... hidden from the public under the cashiers. So I went up to this guy and asked if they had any copies. He pointed at a nondescript cardboard box, and there were stacks of games. My lucky day. 
I haven't played it yet, though. Darned homework...

I don't have time to play online matches, unfortunately. But I do enjoy Brawl very much so. I got a late start tonight, so I didn't try the SSE yet. Just played around 20 Brawls to get the hang of it. I noticed immediately that the overall gameplay is slower than Melee, and a lot more chaotic. Some of the stages distracted me immensely, so I stuck with Final Destination. Of the new characters, I think the one that works the best for me (surprisingly) so far is Pokemon Trainer.
I haven't unlocked anyone past Marth yet though, so I haven't seen how Falcon and Falco have changed yet. I'll get there though!

If anyone wants to add me to their friends list my Brawl FC is in my signature. I'm usually online evenings Pacific time. I love this game except for the fact they slowed down Link (now I have to re-master using him). Bur overall, it's a great game. The Subspace Emissary is nothing short of spectacular except for the pairing of Yoshi and Link. Link deserves to have been with Ike, Marth and Meta Knight. Oh well. See you guys online.
