This one's over, folks.

Alright, draftboy. Tired of the arguments in the Jedi Draft? Bored with the Starfighter Draft? Not man enough for the Comic Book Draft? Or do you just need even more draft action to satisfy your thirst? Then we've got a draft designed just for you.

Alright, gamerboy. Thumbs worn down from those button mashers? Tired of looking for cheat codes and mods for your favorite games? Sick of Tom Nook and his annoying little kids? Mad that your game genie doesn't work anymore? Then we've got a draft designed just for you.

Alright, argumentboy. Looking for a place to yell and scream about how great your favorite character is? Ready to prove once and for all that Master Chief is actually Mistress Chump? Ready to argue that solving the puzzles leading to Gannon really are the best indication of intelligence on any planet? Then we've got a draft designed just for you.

Come all. All ye who love the draft. All ye who love the gamez. All ye who think ye are 1337. All ye who just lurk.

Welcome, to the second installment of The Video Game Draft.

While the first draft was far from a resounding success, we're back to try it again, with some tweaking, some polish, and, hopefully, a better product overall. But, for a reference, please check out the previous draft: Video Game Draft Tournament

The first draft was won by Shadow_of_Durron, and as such he is now enshrined into the Video Game Draft Hall of Fame.

Video Game Draft Hall of Fame

Shadow_of_Durron

Now that we have the introduction done, let me go through the basic rules of the game.

Participants

There are three different types of participants in this (and any) draft game.

1. The Commissioner That's me. It's my job to enforce the rules, update draft lists, generate matches, keep the game flowing, randomize draft lists, and basically take crap from everyone else when things don't go their way.

2. GMs It's the job of the GMs to assemble their teams, mainly through drafting, but trades and free agency can be used as well. It's also the job of the GMs to send in numbers (we'll discuss this later), and, optionally, argue as to why their character(s) should win matches.

3. Judges It's the job of the Judges to, well, judge. They decide who will win matches. They also are encouraged to provide breakdowns of teams and grades for draft picks as the drafting moves along, but this is not required. All Judging Spots For This Draft Are Filled. No More Judges Accepted

So that's an overview, let's look at the way the draft will shake-out.

Step 1: The Draft

Once all the positions are filled, I'll randomize the draft order and post the two lists from which the GMs will draft their teams. There will be ten rounds of drafting, which of course means that each team will consist of ten characters. The draft order will also reverse after each round. This is so that the people in the lower part of the first round aren't getting the shaft by giving them picks that are closer together.

Example:

Round 1
1. Team A
2. Team B
3. Team C
4. Team D

Round 2
1. Team D
2. Team C
3. Team B
4. Team A

And we'll do ten rounds like that.

Now, I mentioned that there were two lists before. There's the power list, and the regular list. The characters on the power list are generally considered to be extremely powerful (Duh. tongue ) and are on a separate list so that each GM is limited in how many of them they can pick for their squad. The number of characters that each GM can select from the power list is three.

It should be noted that characters from the power list are not unbeatable just because they're on that list. Certain characters from the regular list can exploit possible weakness of the power list characters, and certain characters from the regular list benefit greatly from being prepared (a rule I'll get to in a little bit) and can maybe beat a power-lister that way.

The GMs are in no way obligated to select their characters only from the power list in the first three rounds. If you want, you can wait until your last three picks to take your power list characters, or you can take one in the first round and then wait until the fifth round, or whatever to take your next one, or you can only take two from that list, or one, or none, and draft ten characters from the regular list. (Though, that's probably not recommended. tongue ). It's completely up the GM.

As for what characters are on what list: Don't worry about that now. I'll post the draft lists once everyone is signed up and I randomize the draft order.

STEP 2: THE MATCHUPS

Once all ten rounds of drafting are completed, I'll post the first round of matchups. Each GM's squad will face off against another GM's squad. Once the matchups are posted, I'll ask each GM to PM me a set of numbers. Basically what you do here is assign each character on your squad a number from 1 to 8, and when I randomly call, for example, the number 6, whoever you placed at number 6 will square off against whomever the opposing GM placed at number 6. Fairly simple, right?

Let's look at a hypothetical set of numbers.

Suppose you had the following team: Cloud Strife, Samus Aran, Sephiroth, Mega Man, Zero, Donkey Kong, James Bond, Fox McCloud, Simon Belmont and Mike Tyson. You Could send in numbers like so:

1. Cloud Strife
2. Simon Belmont
3. Donkey Kong
4. James Bond
5. Zero
6. Mega Man
7. Samus Aran
8. Mike Tyson

That, or any order. It really is best to keep things random.

Now, you'll notice that I said that you can assign eight numbers. So why do we have ten rounds of drafting and ten characters per team? Simple. You have to decide which two of your characters will sit out the individual battles for that round. GMs can switch which characters they want to sit out, though. In the example above, that hypothetical GM decided to sit out Sephiroth and Simon Belmont. But, after that match is over and he is facing off against a different GM, he could decide put those two characters into the match and sit out, say, Donkey Kong and Mike Tyson. It's up to the GM to decide which characters would serve him best in the individual battles for that round.

Not to worry, though. All ten of your characters will participate in team battles, if that becomes necessary.

A team battle occurs if, after we get through all eight rounds of individual battles, the two squads are deadlocked at four wins apiece. The team battle will then act as a tiebreaker and the winner of that battle will win the match. And team battles are just what they sound like. The judges have to decide which team would win in an all out brawl between every character on both squads.

OPTIONAL STRATEGIES:

Here are a couple of different things that you can use (or not use) when sending in your numbers:

Trumps

A trump is when you place two characters together for a greater chance of winning their matchup. Sounds simple, right? But there's a downside. Trumping your characters together for a greater chance of success will result in an auto-loss for your squad.

Here's how it works:

Using the same team from above, you can send in your numbers like so:

1. Cloud Strife TRUMPED with Sephiroth
2. Simon Belmont
3. Donkey Kong
4. Sephiroth TRUMPED with Cloud Strife
5. Zero
6. Mega Man
7. Samus Aran
8. Mike Tyson

Now, when I call, say, number 1, both Cloud and Sephiroth will face off against whomever your opponent has at number one. Obviously, they have a greater chance of defeating whomever comes up as their opponent, but there's always the possibility that their opponent is completely out of their league. That's known as "trump busted" (not to be confused with "slump busting"). That's the risk involved with trumping.

Now, once that trump has done battle, whether they win or lose, when I call the other number the trump used (in this case 4), the team will receive an auto-loss in that spot and whomever the other team has will get the win.

Now, can you use multiple trumps or even put more than two characters together in one trump? Yes, of course. You can trump your team however you see fit. Just always be aware that you will receive an auto-loss for each team member that's trumped, so don't get too carried away.

Theoretically, you could send in your numbers like this:

1. Donkey Kong
2. Sephiroth TRUMPED with Cloud Strife and Mike Tyson
3. Samus Aran
4. Mega Man TRUMPED with Zero
5. Cloud Strife TRUMPED with Sephiroth and Mike Tyson
6. Simon Belmont
7. Zero TRUMPED with Mega Man
8. Mike Tyson TRUMPED with Cloud Strife and Sephiroth

Now, because this GM is using a two different trumps and one of them involves three characters, this GM will receive three auto-losses. Which numbers get the auto-losses are random, since I'll be calling out the numbers in a random order. So, if I call number 5 first, then Cloud, Sephiroth and Mike Tyson will all do battle against whomever the opponent has at number 5, but then when I call number 2 and number 8, this team will receive an autoloss each time.

It may seem a bit complicated, but it's not that bad. At least not once you get into the game.

Preparation Time

The second of our optional strategies is known as prep time. Basically what this means is that you can assign up to two of your characters prep time when sending in your numbers. So, again, your numbers could look like this:

1. Mega Man (Prepared)
2. Zero
3. Cloud Strife
4. Fox McCloud
5. Simon Belmont
6. Sephiroth
7. Samus Aran
8. Mike Tyson (Prepared)

Being prepared means that the character(s) to which you assign preparation time will know in advance who they are fighting. They will have 24 hours to prepare a strategy, assemble, buy, or build weapons and armors, etc. Each of the judges will post a statement about how they view prep time in general to allow each GM to have a better understanding of how their characters might be judged with prep time. However, some things are just common sense. Saying that, for example, Link will use his prep time to fill his bottles with fairies is a very good idea. Saying that a character will build a time machine and kill their opponent while they are on the toilet is not allowed. Obviously, some characters will benefit more from prep time than others will, but it is up to the GMs to decide who to give prep time to.

Now, I put this under optional strategies, and yes, prep time is optional. However, unlike trumping, there's no penalty for using prep time for your characters, so it's pretty much in your best interests to assign two of your characters prep time for every match. Even if you don't end up with any characters that would obviously benefit a great deal from it, you might as well give the prep time to someone. The difference might be minimal, but you never know when it could be the difference maker in a really close match.

Now, can you prep a trump? Yes, yes you can. However, prepping a trump will consume both of your prep times for that match. So instead of being able to prepare two different individual fighters for that match, you would only have the one prepared trump. Again, that's completely up to the GM.

Prizes and Punishments

1. The winner of this draft shall receive one week of VIPship and optional use of a special Video Game Draft winner icon. They will also be enshrined into the Video Game Draft Hall of Fame and will receive the first pick in the next installment of the draft.
2. All GMs who do not win shall be given a 24-hour game ban after they are eliminated. These users shall still be allowed to post with a sock, but are actually encouraged not to post while game banned and to instead go meet a member of the opposite sex.
3. Judges shall have the option of having a reserved GM spot in the next installment, and shall have game-ban exemptions in the next installment
4. The Commissioner shall be given red-only VIPship for the duration of the draft, and has the option of having a reserved GM spot in the next installment.
5. Moderators who GM shall receive game-ban exemptions.

******************************

So, that's pretty much the gist of it all. There are obviously a lot of different things you can do when sending in your numbers that can make or break you. With all the different ways you can trump and the multiple prep times you can assign, no two matches should even be close to being alike. But first, we have to get these teams drafted. And to do that, we need to get these spots filled. I've rambled on long enough, I think.

Way to work things out Inty, this is looking really good. Shouldn't be too hard to have this version run smother anyway. Good job on the last one, I never did thank you.
