Yep yep.
Finally found an Elite. Course, they were at Gamestop and we only had enough money on us to get the DMC4 guide book the hubby was looking for. If they're finally getting some, maybe other retailers are, too.

I only ask because I am keeping my fingers crossed on a price drop, however slight it may be, before I go and buy one. I am planning on paying off some things first then probably once this semester ends in May I will be buying one. If anyone hears talk about the Elites dropping in price at all, let me know.

There was a brief rumor of MS working on a new flavor of 360 nicknamed "Ultimate". IF it's real, then I'd say wait until this fall before getting a new system as that might trigger a price drop on previous systems.
But that's all speculation. More likely than not, it's some geek's pipedream that went viral on the internet. Then again...information on the Elite was released in similar fashion and the system wasn't confirmed by MS as being developed until they were practically ready to release it.
Barring that, I don't see them dropping the price anytime soon...but you never know.

Is the Elite really that much better than the Halo 3 version? I got the Halo Xbox and it was about a hundred bucks less than an Elite.

I forgot...does the Halo 360 come with a HDMI port? I want to say it doesn't, but I could be wrong about that. Also, if you got the Halo-themed controller, at one point people were having trouble with consoles not recognizing them. I assume they fixed that by now.
It just depends on what you need and what your preferences are.
Black would match most of my other consoles. I prefer the larger HDD (which is about $170 to get on it's own), especially not knowing how much additional content in the form of new levels or patches will be necessary for current and future games. Being a mild technophile, I'd like the option of having a HDMI connection...and that the Elite includes the HDMI wires (which depending on where you get it that can be a $50 item by itself). Both the Halo and Elite versions should have the new Falcon chipset (IIRC for both the CPU and GPU) at this point, so they should run the same depending on manufacture date.

The Ultimate 360 has probably been scrapped, if indeed it did exist, now that HD-DVD has been dropped. The new rumour, however, is a 360 with blu-ray support, but I seriously doubt that possibility.
In the meantime, I have a day 1 360 that uses the component HD cables which work very nicely. The Elite does have a little more under the hood compared to the Halo edition, which just a weird coloured Pro console, nothing more. The Elite includes the updated hard drive and, to be fair, looks much nicer anyway
Speaking of HD, though, I picked up one of the drives recently for $50AUS, so I'm hunting down some cheap releases. I still think it's worth having even though the support will soon disappear completely, if not already. There's some nice content out there in the time they've had to release the movies. And besides, it's a good $700 cheaper than a PS3

Assuming the Ultimate was ever anything more than a geek's pipe dream, it wouldn't surprise me one way or the other if we don't see it come about. MS can let it slip quietly under the rug or use the rumor as an excuse to make upgrades.
If they add BluRay, then they should keep it as an external add-on. IIRC, BluRay doesn't support backwards compatibility with DVDs, so it can't be used as a main drive for the 360 (not if you expect to keep playing all of your current games for the system).
I have a pre-Elite 360 connected via VGA. So far works very nicely and even if we get an Elite it wouldn't be going anywhere. Just means the hubby and I can finally both play our games at the same time.

Woops...looks like a correction's in order.
Based on the description found on Circuit City's website, even the Arcade 360 has a HDMI port now. So, if you don't mind white, you could pick that sucker up cheap, buy the 120GB HDD to add onto it and still come out a wee bit cheaper than an Elite. It'll probably come out about the same if you don't have your own HDMI cables (assuming you want to use that port) and still need to get them.
Hopefully by now it's been long enough since they introduced the new models that all the old ones (without the HDMI and upgraded chips) should be out of the stores. (Otherwise, you risk getting an old crapper...)
Still...I would want a black console with everything already included, so pffffffffffffffttttttt!

IIRC you still need to buy the HDMI cables if you get the Arcade version.
edit. Yep, right on xbox.com, onlt the Elite comes with the cables, you have to buy them separate for the Arcade and Pro.

It's so nice to have a 360 that has a disk tray that opens when you tell it to.
So far, so good...but I'll wait on downloading any paid content until I'm sure I won't be marching the thing right back to the store. Finally getting to play Mass Effect should be a good shakedown game (since I hear that game can kill off any 360 that was already on it's last legs).
Didn't dare even put ME into my old pre-Elite-release Pro. No need to tempt the fates.
