I canceled mine last month too. I moved recently and the place I moved to already has a Clearwire Internet account set up, so I didn't need to transfer my Comcast account over here. The problem is, Clearwire isn't fast enough for online gaming (but perfect for web browsing), so for the time being, there is no need for me to have a Gold account. Maybe if we get Comcast set up, I can renew my Gold membership but for now I'm content with playing my games offline.

The other thing to remember is, if you ever move to an area without broadband Internet access, and can't sign into Live, it makes all of your full, downloaded Arcade games revert back to their trial versions. Seriously, they should let you make backup copies of downloaded titles like iTunes does, just so this type of stuff doesn't happen.

No, your downloaded games will continue to work just fine even if you're not signed into Live, as long as you're using the same Xbox that you originally downloaded them on.

No, Leto II is right; if you're offline (i.e., not connected to Live in any way), XBLA titles will only work as trial versions. IMHO, this is absolute b.s. because then you'll have incomplete titles you can't properly play with if, say, you lose your internet access for one reason or another. I can see some of the reasoning behind this, since it might prevent free/illegal copying of Live Content to any other X360 with a profile/account that did NOT pay for it. But really, if Live DLC is tied to a particular XBL Account/Profile, then why the hell shouldn't it function fully, regardless of whether you're connected to the Internet or not?

No, you are wrong. My Xbox isn't plugged into the Internet and all of my downloaded games work just fine.

Like I said, the only reason they won't work while offline is if your Xbox isn't the one you originally downloaded them on.

Well, I'll test it as soon as I get home. But in my experience with all of the XBLA games I have, if I'm offline, they don't have all features enabled or only work as a trial version. I don't think it depends on whether it's been dl'd to one Xbox or another, what should matter here is the HDD and the profile on said HDD anyways, not the console itself. I mean, I'm on my 4th console at this point. By your theory, none of the titles I've downloaded between bouts of RROD should not work then.

If you downloaded your games on your first Xbox then got RROD and had to get a replacement, those games will not work on the new Xbox unless you are signed into Xbox Live.

If you are still using the same Xbox that you originally downloaded them on, the games will work if you are offline.

Yeah, I just tried it myself.

Unplugged my 360 from the net, booted it up and all the arcade games I'd bought on my old Xbox are trials, the ones bought on the current Xbox are full games.

That's stupid. frustrated

You can get them fixed by calling MS and asking them to transfer your licenses.

Is that different to the license transfer tool on the website? Cause I've already transferred them once, and it says you can't do it again for another year. sad

Yeah, they can override it I believe if the tool doesn;t work for you. If it doesn't work because you got RROD I imagine they'd be willing to help you out. tongue

It's not stupid. When you get RROD and keep your hard drive, it's as if you're using your hard drive on a separate Xbox (wait, no as if; that is what's happening). If they didn't have this safeguard in place, anybody could take their hard drive and plug it into a friend's Xbox and have him transfer the downloaded games to his memory card for free. Microsoft is just ensuring that only the original owner of the games can use them, and the only way to do that is to make the games only work if they're on the same Xbox they were originally downloaded on, or if you're signed into Xbox Live so the games can verify you're using the same profile that bought them.

I still find it stupid.

The simple fact is that if I'm offline, I can't access the content that I paid for just because my original Xbox broke.
