For many folks, the only way the Ninja Gaiden games could be any more irritating is if they somehow materialized a brick to fall onto your crotch every 30 minutes or so. The sheer strength of will required to complete the game is just mind-boggling. Be wary of people that have finished this game, because they're most likely mentally unstable. I most likely am, but if you can complete Ninja Gaiden, you can complete anything.
One theory I've read is that the people who have completed the game are actual offspring of Chernobyl, and as such, have extra appendages to deal with the near-godlike reflexes the game requires. Me, I broke my ****ing hand (well, badly bruised the knuckle, anyways) finishing the game the last time.
But I still wonder if these will make an encore appearance?

I'm actually glad that Ninja Gaiden is so hard, from what I've heard. Itd elighted me when they annoucned Black to make even harder. I look forward to the challenge of playing it once I pick up a 360.
Many modern gamers never had to deal with the mindburstingly hard games on the NES- between actual design challenge and lack of saves/continues, etc. When something truly hard comes out, they panic.

Heh. It's from a cut-scene after a boss fight. She gets swallowed by a monster, then you kill it, and she pops out, covered in Astroglide. It's creepy, but what do you expect from Japanese game developers? Also, did I mention that you can use the bow while jumping now? I'm looking forward to disassembling some enemies with this one.
Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox doesn't so much have a learning curve, as a learning brick-wall, with mother****ing spikes and barbed-wire on top. It remains one of the few games to make me actually exclaim "What the ****?!?" on numerous occasions, as my character got molested by evil bouncy Ninjas.
It's tantamount to getting the Wrench in BioShock, and having a dozen Big Daddies show up with a killin' in mind.
I will say this:
If those pics are not cut-scenes, and this is truly in-game, then Ninty better man up and produce me a more powerful ****ing Wii.

After playing through the "Hurricane Pack" downloads with this ****er, I can proudly say that the pain was brought. And so was the funk.

And all the stuff about enemies continuing to come at you out of fear of their overlord even after having limbs removed sends me straight to Erection Cove.

Thinking back on it, and remembering how much my brother and I suck at video games in general, I can't believe we even got to Alma (first fight), much less almost beat her.
Still, for the handful of people who could beat it, I bet it made one feel really, really badass.
So then, should I even bother getting the new one. Probably, since it seems I like spending money on games I never beat...

According to the G4 news-ticker scroll that was running tonight during Attack of the Show!, Tomonobu Itagaki just stated that Ninja Gaiden II is likely going to be the series' swan song:
"Personally, I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series, so I'm not planning on making any other games in the series," said Itagaki. "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise."
...At least until the next console-generation rolls around.

Without going into details, for my curiosity- does Ninja Gaiden Xbox's plotline tie into the original trilogy's with any significance? From what i had played at an EBX demo kiosk back when it came out, I remember it's prologue established it was set after the trilogy, and there were mentions of the statues and the swords. Did the game mak any further connections, or did it just sort of start it's own thing (which NG XB 2 here would likely continue).

There are some thematic storyline tie-ins to the original NES trilogy (Ryu-hell-bent-on-revenge, the Hayabusa-clan Dragon Sword, the statues, the CIA's involvement, hot chicks, more-enemies-coming-at-you-than-Contra, et cetera), but the Xbox duology is essentially a remake of the originals (or, a "reimagining," as they say).
Times ten million difficulty, and amped up on enough steroids to liquify the nuts of Jeff Wode and Roger Clemens, and STILL do your mom in front of your dad and siblings, and then have a smoke afterward. There's a reason the first Xbox game (and its Sigma incarnation) landed at #1 on X-Play's "Top 10 Hardest Games of All Time" list yesterday.
And that list included Devil May Cry 3, the original Mega Man, and Battletoads. **** you, Itagaki.
That said, all three of the NES games and the original Tecmo arcade game are unlockable in Ninja Gaiden Black (my "review" of which from a couple years back, incidentally, I recently happened across).
Ninja Gaiden II on the Xbox 360 (as I'm sure Quest knows, but others may not) continues on the heels of the first Xbox game and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS, a system which Itagaki was keen to develop for; but he still refuses to even touch the PSP with a 20-foot German cattle prod.
