Guitar Hero III

Discuss Guitar Hero III

"Great party game. Best song selection out of the three."

"The current most popular game in the world right now. Couldnt get your hands on it at all back in December. And for a good reason, the game lives up to all of its hype."

"The epitome of addiction. The first two Guitar Hero games were decent, but flawed, mostly due to the Hammer-On/Pull-Off system. They were frustrating. But Guitar Hero III came along, and completely blew its predecessors out of the water. The graphics were awesome, the venues were great, the redesigned characters were excellent (though I'm still ticked off at the palpable absence of Clive Winston), and the HO/PO system is utter perfection. The only thing it doesn't hold above the first two GH's is its soundtrack, which contains a bit too much noise and not enough soul. But still, this game rocks, and it rocks HARD. "

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Video footage

"The first RPG I ever played, and still my favorite. The combat system was a little lacking, but if you could overlook that, there were great characters and a really cool world to explore. The immersion factor on this game for me was very high, especially with my young impressionable mind at the time."

Mario Kart Double Dash

#74
Unreal Tournament

Video footage

"The best series of multiplayer shooters ever in my opinion. Gamers tastes appear to be slowing down, but to me the crazy fragfests of Unreal remain the best way to shoot your friends and complete strangers. Featuring great maps, a wide variety of crazy, but balanced guns and the ability to hone your skills offline with intelligent bots makes this one for the ages."

#73
Myst

Video footage

"The first time I played Myst as a kid, I was scared to death. It's just plain spooky and mysterious. But that sense of mystery made for a great game. It's the same reason why "Lost" is so popular."

#72
Football Manager 2006

Video footage

"I'm a massive footie (soccer) fan and this is a brilliant game. Yes, there've been two editions since then, but I'm up to about 2025 on this game. Everything about it is perfect, the game engine, the skin, the stats, and the challenge. I still play it even though I've got the latest edition of the franchise, but it doesn't hold a candle to this."

"This game has ruled my life so much over the last 10 years or so and this incarnation has largely ruled the last 2. Yes there is a 2007 and 2008 version but neither of them live up to the initial simplicity that the 2006 version brought."

#71
Grim Fandango

Video footage

"My icon says it all. Suavest video game character ever, and he's not even alive. Great story, great art design, Tim Schaeffer, great puzzles- there is nothing else you could want in an adventure game, and despite having played it so many times I still do so every few months." (must be MarcusP2?)

Morrowind was fun, even though it took me six months to finish (which included a three month hiatus and a couple of false starts). Too many damn random tombs and crap to explore that might have nice things in them! I was powerless to stop myself.

Amazing.

Guitar Hero III was on my list, and is the only one out of those I've played.

Morrowind's combat system made it really difficult to get into the game.

myst is a great game and was on my list. it's been a long time since i played and it probably doesn't hold up very well, but when it came out it wasn't like anything i'd ever played before. lots of love for pac man as well, glad to see it ranked this high.

You forgot my quotes again. sad

But yeah, what Tom said about Myst. It was so innovative for its time and it still remains my favourite PC game.

Unreal Tournament is my favourite FPS.

Guitar Hero III should be higher, but I'm not surprised it's that low.
I posted:

Also good to see Mario Kart Double Dash!! make the list as well.

Yeah, Dash tends to be underrated, IMO. It seemingly corrected some of the control and design problems that plagued MK64 (though not as drastically as MKDS did), and the dual-driver/weapon storage rotation scheme added a nice level of strategy to proceedings, and though difficult, the co-op mode was sweet.
