Video games a worthless or not so worthless skill?

All right video games, we all like to play em, and we enjoy the hell out of em.
So would you say its a skill worth having or is it a worthless skill too have?
Sure there's 3-D Modeling and Animation, Digital Illustration 3D animation, broadcast graphic design advergaming and storyboard art.
Which is nice I guess.
So what say ladies and gents worthless or worth having and why?

Yep. Some of them do. I wrote a paper on it once and how some video games improve hand-eye coordination.

Otherwise, if you're looking for personal opinions, than I'd say yes, they're worth it. In a nutshell, they promote hand-eye coordination, they're an enjoyable way to spend time and interact with others (multiplayer), and I've made a great deal of friends through video games. Videogames reinforce or promote many other "things" that are generally viewed as positives as well, though I'm too lazy to think past what I've already written to find those so you'll have to take my word on that one.

Well, now you're talking about two different things. Being skilled at playing video games does not have much worth. However, being skilled at the talents required to create a video game (some of which you mentioned) certainly do have a lot of worth.

I can't recall a single 'skill' I learned playing games that I have ever applied outside of playing video games. So in that sense they're worthless.
If I was a pilot, there may be some flight sim scenarios that would help with decision making in a real life situation, but I'm not a pilot, and I don't know how tapping keys on a keyboard and arcing a mouse in MS Flight Sim 10 really helps when your hands are on a yoke and your dials are whirring as you try and pull out of an actual tailspin.
Has anyone lowered their golf handicap after playing the latest EA golf game? Unlikely.
Unless your work requires fine motor skills (such as a surgeon), I doubt gaming will in any way enhance your 'hand eye co-ordination' such that you improve in your job.
However as a form of recreation they can (sometimes, not always) be more stimulating than passive leisure pursuits such as watching TV, Movies, reading. It that way, they have some inherent worth.
And finally, for those few people who make money from playing videogames, in sponsored FPS Lan contests, game testers, game reviewers etc, of course there is worth.

I call shenanigans on this. I can't see how button-mashing helps someone catch or throw a ball accurately. Unless by 'improved hand-eye co-ordination' people only mean "for videogaming".
What did you learn about computers? How to download drivers, patches and configure soundcards?
