Coolest Video Game Villain
|
(without a Star Wars bias, hopefully  )
I would nominate Kain from Legacy of Kain. At the moment, I can't think of any other villain who encompassed such a range of purpose. Villain to some, hero to others. He was wicked, ruthless, and conniving, but there were times when he seemed to have heart, too.
His final encounters with Raziel, for instance, seem to convey sympathy and reluctance, if I recall correctly.

The Nameless One is by far the coolest and greatest villain ever in any video game. Bar none, no contest, lock the doors and throw away the key, he's the winner. Torment's interface may have aged poorly, but the plot is still the greatest ever in any video game. Nothing in any video game tops the final confrontation in Torment.

The plot itself is better, so is the dialog. However, the Infinity engine has held up more poorly than it has in Baldur's Gate.
