So I've been playing this game ever since I was a kid. Probably about twelve years now. I play the SNES version of it in the Super Mario All-Stars compilation, so I'm spoiled with the prettier graphics. But anyway, everytime I play it, I usually get to world two and use my whistles to skip ahead to World 8, missing everything in between.

Well, it just donned on me a few days ago that I need to go back and play through the entire game. I'd played them all before, but not so frequently that I actually remember them.

It is now my all-time favorite game. That's right. Super Mario World has been officially usurped. Yane, can we restart the tournament now?

Now, before I post this, I need to say one thing:

**** you, World 7. ****. You.

happy

NES is the only way to play it. I had to dedicate a large chunk of my day when I first beat it and I did not have the luxury of saving my progress whenever I felt like it. That being said, Battle Mode on All-Stars rules. tongue

Didn't the All-Star version eliminate the lava ship swim-under shortcut? (or, specifically, added in an extra block that made it impossible to jump back up onot the shop after doing so?).

And, yeah, World 7 is ridiculously hard. Also kinda creepy.

Back in the day, my pattern for beating SMB3 was to play through World 2 to get the second Warp Whistle, then warp from World 3 to World 5, play through through most of the first half of the map till I got the Super P-Wing, then warp from there to World 8. That way I could use the Super P-Wing to fly over and past the World 8 Tank, then swim udner the lava ship.

You can warp to World 8 right from World 1. Just get the Level 3 and fortress whistles, use the first one and then in the Warp Zone use the second one. For whatever reason it takes you to World 8 rather than taking you to the second section.

Edit: Like this

Oh, no, i know you can do that- I just make the intentional pit-stop in World 5 to grab the Super P-Wing since I always found the tank difficult. Plus it gives me the chance to play with Kuribo's Shoe and the Tanooki Suit for a bit wink

Okay, but you can get the Super P-Wing from the secret mushroom house in World 1. tongue

Yes, of course you can skip all the worlds. But half the fun is going through and playing each and every level. Like the world where everything is huge, or the level where you ride around in the giant boot... Wow, I want to go play SMB3 again now thinking

I also realized playing through all the worlds nets me more power-ups to use in World 8. I have, like, five Super-P's and a few clouds.

I never understood why just because he's a racoon he can fly.

Racoons don't fly, people. Racoons don't fly.

Great game though, any Mario in general has a place in my heart [SNES and 64 only]But 3 is my favorite for the original nintendo. Mario 64, is still one of my favorite games ever.

Back before SMB3 came out, I remember one of my friends had borrowed a Japanese Nintendo Power from a friend of his and we were looking over the SMB3 preview, trying to figure out what it was about based on the screen shots since we couldn't read Japanese.

Seeing the shots of the raccoon and tanooki suits (which looked like cat features in the tiny pics), we came to the conclusion that Mario started off human like usual, but every time you took a hit, you became more and more cat-like- each stage of cat transformation gave you new powers, but also one step closer to death since the game ended if you turned into a full cat, so you had to balance the powers with what was essentially your life-meter.

Yes, we were totally wrong. But I still want to play that game something fierce.

Which Sun? The World 2 sun is piss easy to beat, the world 8 Sun can be skipped all together (in the level itself). tongue

You guys are a bunch of wusses. Here is how you do it: Warp to world 8 from world 1. Then, beat world 8 with, of course, assistance from the items you can get along world 8 (where the creepy hands that pull you into the level are).

I mean, seriously, P-wing? Pfft.
