I don't get how the Emperor was able to read Vader's feelings(for lack of a better verb) and figure out Luke was Vader's son(who even Vader didn't seem all too sure of, whose only contact had been through 2 starfighter hulls and about 30 meters of vaccum) but didn't realize Vader had a secret apprentice for 15 or so(i'm guessing) years.( bringing up another point, if the novel is supposed to be 17 BBY on the EU chronological timeline forum, and in the newest trailer for TFU, The SA was around 4, and when he grows up he's at least 20, meaning whatever happened to the SA happens real, real close to ANH,...
(this is all speculation)
Thoughts on both?

TFU Spoilers:
Considering that Palpatine is the one who tells Vader to kill the Apprentice, I'd say he isn't as oblivious as Vader thinks.

I'd think the Emperor would want Vader to find an apprentice. It shows Palpatine that Vader is a Sith, and the tradition carries on. Besides, the Emperor did have his 'hands' who were apprentices in training, and Vader did have another apprentice didn't he? Either way, it's the way of the Sith and I'm sure the Emperor is just lovin' it.

The way the developers explained it, Vader went to great lengths to hide his apprentice - by killing both the rebels and their own men. Maybe Sidious did know and just felt he really had nothing to fear. If they both ganged up on him, Vader would go down for the count with a little bit of lightning and the Emporer would offer "Starkiller" all the knowledge and power of the darkside.

So it'd be a win-win situation for Sidious. Unless, of course, Starkiller switches sides and he becomes an obvious threat to the Empire, leading up to the inevitable Vader Vs. Starkiller boss fight at the end. It'd be interesting to see if there are alternate endings resulting from the outcome of that fight (a la the ROTS game). Like, oh, I don't know, a Starkiller/Sidious boss fight (ok, maybe I'm daydreaming here, but tell me that wouldn't be cool).

Redirecting to the TFU thread, or to the Lit forum.
